Fishbowl for me this morning. WU 500, MD 5x50's on the 15's, 100 recovery x2, CD 500. 44:something. The 50's were challenging, but not impossible.

Then son and I went for a spin. Hit every stinkin' light on the way out of town. Then just couldn't get anything going. Stuck it out. Inbound was much better. 22m. Son's computer had movng average of 15.2mph. Dah... I'll take it.

Did I ever post yesterday's workout? Not sure. Rode my bike home (15.1 miles), then did 30 min of weights. Was thinking about doing a little swim, too, but the left knee was aching (probably sympathy pain for BethR's knees), so I bagged that. Glad I did.

Today I rode back to work (14.8 miles due to minor course variations) and have masters swim this evening. Knees are happy. Legs are tired. Slow ride in. All is well.

Make peace (with your knees) today Peeps!!!

19 or 21 would be odd. 20's even

dunno if it's accurate tbh. It is a pool as part of a sauna/whirlpool/leisure spa bit of a gym that's trying to brand itself as a top-end lifestyle type place. (It fails by the way - too many members so the machines are always busy and there's no country club feel to it). Anyway - point of the long explanation: the pool does not have an "officially" publicised length. I've always assumed just 20m (it's certainly not 25).

if it's only 15 i might be in big trouble later in the season!!!

Ha! Stitcher came to my gym the otherday...

www.lifetimefitness.com

It's definitely a "Country Club"

Next time you're in Atlanta I'll get you a VIP pass...

I guess you'd have to come to America first...

tough to do the one without the other! i went to NYC for a long weekend in 2005 and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Stopped at LAX for 3 hours on the way home from NZ last January, and wasn't quite as impressed. When I qualify for the WC 70.3 at florida in november i'll do a little pop in to Atlanta. how's that sound?

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Busy morning since I was teaching a class. Trainer intervals planned for after work today.

Happy Hump Day!

Should've rested today... had 10 days of exercising, and the last ones were longest ride, long run, hilly bike, PR race, run+swim, longest trail run, longish swim.... But I'll go out of town for the weekend, so I couldn't live with taking so many breaks this week.
So I went for an easy recovery run, just 2 miles, and I was dying. I'm so exhausted now as if I'd run 20. And it's a very warm day, low 60's, and I was dressed like for the regular low 40's, so a few times I felt dizzy from the heat.
Guess rest is important, after all....

Unplanned rest day for me. I was walking to the pool, and felt woozy, tired, and generally very unwell. I spent the rest of the day getting my hair cut, and generally feeling kind of cruddy. I'll try to get the swim done tomorrow morning.

My 20 to 22 mi run yesterday ended up at 25.4 mi. I suck at route estimating. And there was a point, as I'm running along the fox river, where I had the option to cross the river and head for home or go down to the next crossing, which was 1.4 mi, and then head back on the other side. I took the longer route and ended up being almost exactly 3mi too long. I'm an idiot. On the plus side, I did the entire run at 7:38 pace with the majority of the run in zone 2.

Recovery day today. Masters swim in the afternoon and maybe an hour on the trainer in zone 1 if I can stay away that late.

Have a great one everybody!

Mike

22.2 mile run / 8:06 pace. Kept the first 1 1/2 in zone 1 then switched to zone 2, then went back to zone 1 for last 40 or so minutes. Overall 3 hours. Legs a bit sore from previous days hard bike efforts.

45 minute swim - Just worked on technique longer sets, reaching, thinking about my stroke. Also practiced a few quicker bursts in the middle of some longer sets.

I'm kind of tired. I'm trying a two week taper this time around for IMAZ. This is based on the past two years of racing and some experimenting. I seem to race better with less taper, and have done miserable with longer ones, but never tried it for an IM. So coach set it up for a two week taper and we'll see how this works before IM Wisconsin later in the year. If it doesn't work, I'll do a three for WI which is my AAA race. I have a day off tomorrow, travel day to Naples Florida .

Great job everyone!

If you're going to reduce your taper, I would personally just be sure to really taper in full. No half-assing the taper, because you only have so much time. I mean that. Since many of us wig on the taper, especially for an IM, if you reduce to two weeks, just make sure to lay real low and easy. Even put the bike completely away the week before the race. Do a 25-30 mile easy ride on Sunday prior followed by and very easy 2-3 mile run, and then ship or box the bike until you get to race site.

Your power on both the bike and your ability to run strong for duration go way up when you are properly rested. You can see for yourself on the bike with the power numbers you have. Remember the last time you went on a trip where you were completely off the bike for a full week, and your first time back on the Trainer the numbers were sky-high. There's a reason for that, and it's because your legs were better rested. Same goes for the run.

A-Mike you are nuts

Me, 2300y in fishbowl, then "emergency" Dt for my PF and which made a HUGE difference.

Thanks for the advice! I will ship the bike the week before, I figure I'd try that tribiketransport.com service rather than lug it around. The two weeks laying low sounds like a good idea. I'm on vacation next week so I hope do really just lay around, except when I'm needed!
