End of year wrap up:

I didn't have any real 'firm' 2007 goals that I recall. I kind of knew it was going to be a rebuilding year so to speak after having Pneumonia late last year and taking almost a month off.

I did PR in the Marathon by almost 4 minutes, so I'll take that as a positive.

I did PR in a 10k (41:59) also a positive.

I enjoyed racing in a Duathlon.

I ran 2 Marathons and 1 Ultra.

That's about it for me.

Next spring I will PR in the marathon again. Hopefully enough to get me to Boston in 2k9.

Me too.

2007 goals
Get back to my WW goal weight - nope
Complete c25k - check
Run a 5k race - nope
build a good running base - nope

2008 goals
get back to my WW goal weight
Eat better
increase my running base
complete a half (even with walk breaks) - planned
Finally attend a 30's meet up - planned

If I cut this post short or have a few dozen spelling errors, it's this damn keyboard's fault not mine.

Great goals and recaps on 2007 goals. All in all - a successful group here! PTom - sub 16:00 puts you in some fast company - I know you can & will do it, but damn! that just sounds SOOO fast!! ANd Cactus' Ironman attempt is something I will be greatly interested in following the next few months, along with the other newbie marathoners/racers on this thread...people trying new things is fun to watch and hear about as it makes me want to try new things or accomplish something I didn't think I could.

My 2007 Goals:
1. Stay injury free - Check! Most important goal for me every single year
2. Annual mileage/kilometerage - 5000km because it sound cool...CHECK!
3. Marathon - Sub 2:50 in the spring, and 2:45 in the fall
Boston's weather was not conducive to fast racing so the spring goal was met in early fall @ Air Force, and the 2:45 goal was not to be in 2007
4. 5k/10k PR's - Check! Twice on both, actually so double check, plus 2 stroller 5k PRs!
5. Pacing - Nail every single race - Quasi-Check. 6 out of 7 I did really well, but the sub 3 at San Francisco turned into 24 miles at that pace and a leisurely stroll the last 2+ miles! If I was going to miss one time though - this is the one I'm most OK with since I didn't screw up anyone's race since I was all alone at 24 and it was the most aggressive time.

Early thoughts on 2008 Goals - I hope they are challenging enough to me that I do not achieve them all, otherwise they will feel too soft:
1. Injury Free
2. 2:42 marathon at some point in the year
3. Annual Mileage - 3200+
4. Shorter Distance PR's - 5k - 16:45, half marathon 1:16. I don't know if I'll get in more than 1 or 2 10k's so that is a soft goal - anything under current PR is gravy.
5. Pacing - Nail every single race
6. Encourage or "coach" at least 5 people to either start running or improve their running and/or qualify for Boston
7. At least one multi-sport event (du or tri) - perhaps a half ironman

Okay goals and stuff, fun!

2007 Goals:
I really didn't have too many, I just started racing last November.
1) I guess the only one was to run a half marathon: Check

2008 Goals:
Now, this year, I have a lot more to think about now that I'm into racing. I really like to challenge myself, I have been humbled before and I'm sure I'll be humbled again. I got to keep putting it out there!!!!
1) Sub 3:20 marathon. I'm going to aim for that in Boston as long as the weather cooperates at least a little and training goes well.
2) Sub 20:00 5k. This is one I'm pretty nervous about, current pr is 20:40. 5k's seem so hard because if you mess up even a little, it seems like there isn't much time to fix it...I've been known to mess up before.
3) PR in the 1/2, current is 1:36:01. I would like to get around 7 min. pace but right now that just seems like crazy talk...we'll see what next fall brings. I'm "running" Miami as just a training run, then the A1A in Feb. in place of a MP run; but I think later in the year will be better for a PR race.
4) Become more social and join in on group runs this year.
5) Keep doing tri's, don't make an ass of myself during the swim next time around.

Well I didnt run but I see that folks are posting '07 results and '08 goals

I cant recall if I had any actual goals for this year over last year other than:

run more miles than '06 check.

What I did accomplish this year:

PRed in the 5k distance ( improved by like 3 minutes )
Ran my first 10 mile race
PRed in a HM ( Flying Pig 7 minute PR! Thanks Beth, Bard, Nick & Moonie )
Ran two HMs ( one more than last year )

My biggest ( non running ) goal of the year was to meet as many of you as I could. That got accomplished and how!

2008 Goals

1. Get back to 100% physicaly ( obviously a priority )
2. Start running again
3. Lose 25 lbs ( 12.5 by June 1st, 12.5 by Dec. 18th )

Im playing it by ear. If I can accomplish goal 1 quickly, while working on #3 at the same time, I hope to return to running by spring.

So anyhow, I had realized that in all the runs I had logged this year, none had lasted 1:3xx. I figured today was a good day to get that, I'm not going long on Saturday with a 5K race on Sunday and I could do it at a nice easy effort tonight with the HRM keeping me in check.

Using the HRM again has made me realize how in the time without using it, my easy pace had been creeping up, both in pace and heart rate. So actually I hadn't really been running my easy runs as easy as maybe they should have been. It was good to go on a long lasting effort tonight and remember what the easy pace should feel like.

8.2 miles in 1:35:39. Average heart rate of 137 bpm.
