Nice race, Runnin'... AND a smart call. It's seriously soup here also. I did 10 yesterday but had to do it on the TM--easy 3 today but sweated like 10 whole men and Big G. :D (ducking and running).

The weather is making me a liar to my new to marathon training friend. I told her during our last run it would be THE toughest run we had with nearly 100% humidity and 17++ miles--don't get worse than that.

Well, tomorrow, we are going to be running in nearly the same humidity and 19 or 20 miles, so will need to start at 5:30 AM. Oppsiess. Oh, and sun. Double ooopsies. I gotta say, this is THE toughest marathon training cycle for me evah. It's been a challenge and the weather has slowed me down lots.

Sending Missy and baby good "performance" vibes. This is her marathon this year! :)

Heal thy leg, Jenn...good to see you back, Pacer.

Love the route, Bob. I'd do it just for that alone.

Cherl...wait...is this Cherl from a long time ago on CR? If so, yayayayayayay and if not, welcome!

Stay safe Ragnar'ers....it's foggy out!!

Hey all - first off, to Missy and the family! Congratulations and rest up well.

Great to see you back Pacer - good job on those 5Ks. And nice to see some good runs/workouts in the books already (Jill, boB (heh - love that map!), Kris, RiL (verrry respectable time considering the conditions), Tim and Tonya)

I wasn't too enthused of slogging out 17 miles on trail runs this morning with my running club on little motivation, so I winged it and signed up this morning for the Summer Breeze Half Marathon that I found out about last minute and saw that they still had spots available for race-day signup. I had been training with little mojo and not much intensity, and I really had no idea where I was run fitness-wise. Looking at the calendar, this was about as good a spot as any to figure it out.

The course was a mix of asphalt and dirt trails fast and flat along the bay shore, with the only caveat being a 10-15 mph steady from the NE wind that helped runners out to the turnaround but was more or less against us on the way back. Relatively cheap reg fee too for this area, even with the last-minute sign-up (and I managed to avoid that activesucksballs.com registration fee by doing it that way), and pretty good schwag to boot.

With no expectations, I got a relatively good sleep and maybe there's something to be said for that - chip time was 1:45:08 (a 4:40 PR) and a 3rd place AG. Gotta' put it in perspective though - the gap between me and the 1st AG was quite a good chunk of time and 2nd AG was 4 minutes ahead of me (competition must've had better things to do today.) Also, my Garmin measured the course WAY short (it didn't even click over to 13 mi) so I'm a little skeptical of the finishing time. Still though, I'm very happy how it all turned out, especially since I started off around 8:15-8:25 pace on the way out and was closing out with 7:40 - 8 min miles back in.

Nice job moonie...you speed demon. Pretty soon and you'll be sand baggin in boB's league.

Bob - did you guys get the car? I guess I should check in the non-run thread, eh?

Congratulations to missy and DH! Welcome to the world, Little Tiger!

I've been MIA. Sorry. Real life stuffs been busy.

Ran .6 mi barefoot on the beach today to work on strengthening my feet/ankles/legs. Felt good, actually.

Then an 5 easy miles with 2oh. Great spending time chatting the whole way.

I took my cousin out for happy hour time here, and then bailed out of a big dinner/night of drinking with friends because I have to run my long run early tomorrow and then drive back home for work. Got shit for that. Really? Still? I have to deal with people being pissy to me for not going out drinking when it works for them but not for me? I didn't give them shit for not meeting us out the other night when they couldn't make it.

Yup, it pisses me off. Sorry for the salt.

Hope the Ragnars had a great time, and I see runnin had a good day and moonie, too. Congrats! Hope I didn't miss any racers. Nice to see you back, Pacer.

photo - Giving you the finger? Ha! I saw something else.

RIL - Great race! Congratulations!

Maria - Very cool pool. Are there several moving around the city this summer?

Crane - 'tis me! Except I've moved to Cali. so now I'm running the streets around San Diego and not Portland.

Missy - Yippee! Congratulations on the little one! Be sure to allow your body ample rest before running again. I tried 6 weeks after my first child and it was pretty painful for weeks. The second time I waited until 8 weeks and that was much better.

I got my 18 miles in this morning. Wasn't really feeling it but hung in there for the first 15. The last 3 were hard (mentally) but I got it done. And I did treat myself to a dip in the ocean afterwards which felt pretty awesome. I'm already planning to do that again next weekend after we run 20.

On a totally side note: I went to a birthday party this afternoon for a 5 year old. In the bar in their backyard they had Stone Brewery's Arrogant Bastard on tap. On tap! I, unfortunately, didn't drink since I was a little dehydrated from the run and was drinking more than my share of the bottled waters, but what a great kids' birthday party!

Great racing PC, Moonie, and RIL!

Super workouts everyone else and special kudos to Fidat!!!

So I went to the see the doc on Friday and he put me on some anti-inflammatory patches and an achilles support brace. Scheduled an MRI for next week and some PT with some fancy electro-osmosis funky drug infusion treatment to follow. Tried to go for a run last night but after .25 miles it was pretty evident that it wasn't going to be my day so I turned and headed home. Took the day off of running today and worked around the house moving boxes of stuff that Amy packed up into the man cave for storage, got a lot a stairs work as a result.

Good luck Sunday racers!

Nice racing and runing out there this weekend - and Moonie with a smokin' HM. Sorry about the medical issues Duck (and Jen's hammy as well) - hope whatever regimen they put you on is quick and effective.

I put in 5.5 miles this AM in the pouring rain. Twas fun, although squishy. Dirt roads + rain = sloppy. Should have put in another 0.5 miles somewhere this week - ended up with 24.5.

There were a couple guys (lawn care? repairmen of some kind) packing up their truck as Jack and I walked past this morning. The one guy calls out to me:

guy: You jog a lot? [swings his arms and bounces foot to foot to mimic running]

me: Yep

guy: You've got some big muscles down there!

Seriously? THAT's what you say to a woman? Is that supposed to be a compliment???

Weirdo.

Gotta' love the guys with those smooth tongues heh!
Going to head out to the pool in a few for some laps. May get in some recovery miles and some strength training later on today if I feel like it, but we'll see...

One thing interesting about yesterday's race is that the photographers are all volunteers. You won't necessarily get the greatest quality shots with that approach, but you are free to take a copy of any of your photos for printing if you like them.

The one shot they got of me (on the way out) is okay. The second photo is a guy who really brought back memories of Voo as I ran past him twice on the trails (overtook him near the turn around and then on the way back)

The half went well - we started off in 6:30-6:35 pace and my buddy rolled ahead at mile 6 (he didn't like having 2 chicks in front of him!) I picked it up too but not as much as he did - dropped down to 6:15-6:23 or so. I reeled in a few people after the half and was 10 seconds behind the 2nd and 3rd place guys at mile 11, but my shoelace came untied and I lost time for that. Honestly, I doubt I would have caught them - I'd been reeling them in for a bit but I was pretty well cooked at that point. My friend won, another friend was 2nd, I was 4th. Afterwards we did a few more miles and then hit an old fashioned ice cream shop off the bike trail - I had a pulled pork sammich and I sweet-talked the owner enough that when I got an ice cream cone they loaded me up with a huge one (Moose Tracks - holla!!)

Came home to my girls having a big fight about a pottery project gone awry...always fun.

Happy birthday to Tigress (it's a she, right?!) Hope everyone is doing well!

Nice work on the HMs - Moonie (supa sweet PR!!!) and PC!!

Cherl - the pools were a 3 week deal as part of Summer Streets although they did show up around parts of Brooklyn last summer. I expect to see them again nearby as some point ;)

Finally dragging my carcass out for some miles - was waiting to see my running buddy come down off Pikes Peak, she just came through the finish after a long day of 13+ miles up and 13+ miles down. Awesome stuff!

afternoon peeps

YIPPEE for missy and little tiger!! I saw the arrival on my iPHONE but couldn't post on this forum.

Great runs to Moonie (dude totally is a doppelganger for Voo!), Bob, PC, etc. forgive me if I miss someone but I am totally still sleep deprived.

Ragner went great minus the horrible weather. WI/MN was very soupy the past couple of days and unfortunately 2 of my 3 legs were in the meaty part of the day where us fair skinned northern folk wilt.

First leg was a 6.8 straight shot on the highway near Pepin WI. Not scenic, not shaded and not supported. I carried some gatorade with me but with the effort level, heat and the concentration of the gatorade, my stomach was SHOT after 4 miles and I started to feel really really ill. I walked 3 times that last 2.8 miles because I had no choice...NONE. It was either walk or pass out/throw up carp myself. blah. I was passed 3 times. Ended up with a 9:47 average.

Leg 2 was better quality but still not a good leg. I started at 5:22 am but ran mostly through Hudson WI so no really night running. Leg was short at 3.8 miles and some of it was on sidewalk (boo). At a little over 1 mile to go, I saw another runner ahead about .25 miles and I basically hammered the carp out of my quads down the massive downhill. I was near throwing up at 400 meters to go and tucked behind her for 200 meters just to catch my breath. Then, I kicked and flew by her right before the chute. So, passed 1 person, and was passed by a guy. Average 9:02 - last .8 was at a 8:18 pace.

Leg 3 was BRUTAL just due to the conditions (hot and humid again), time of day (starting at 2 p.m.) and the fact that I was wrecked from my downhill hammering. Course was the most scenic of the 3 started at Crosby farm park in St Paul and running along Shepard Road. After 1.5 or so, we descended into the trail system and it ended at Hidden Falls on the Mississippi. A member of our running group was biking along the course and picked me up right before the trail head and chatted with me the rest of the way. Man that really helped. I kept a good pace 9:31 and roadkilled 2 MEN (woot!). One guy did pass me but the leg was a net positive!!

The relay was a blast. We had a great van of girls (6 girls in a van for 24 hours and NO fights ;) ), a lot of silliness and some good running. The weather was not good. Between the heat, humidity and then the FOG at night, it was pretty sketchy at times but we didn't have any big issues and I didn't hear about any major incidents race wise.

I slept over 14 hours and I am still tired now. Man. I lifted at 1 and was sure that they upped the weight on all of the exercises. they did not. I am a wreck! I am going to go and nap now ;)

I'm not sure what's worse--that "compliment" or the fact that he called you a jogger. :)

Nice half, PC and Joe (that Vooeqsue picture is a little uncanny..)!!

Heal thyself, Duckie...that sounds painful.

20 today in better weather than expected. It was truly not problem...I could have done it faster, but I was with someone a bit slower training for her first. Happy to have a good LR behind me.

Weirdly, they were also having a 1/2 (poorly attended, I may add) and we caught the very end. We were using the opportunity to run on the blocked off road and avoid bikers--we didn't use fuel stops, tho.

We were at mile 18 one volunteer just hands me a cup of gatorade, which I really needed so I said without thinking, "OMG, I love you" to which he started carrying on and asked me for my number (as a joke). I was truly embarrassed...

Moon - Great photos! That race looks awesome. I have a friend up in Marin Co. who ran the 5K and placed second in her AG. I looked up the results and saw that I could totally place in that field. I'm signing up for the wrong races. Anyway, congratulations on a great race!

Kath & Crane - Agreed. I hate when people use the term "jogger"... Great run today, Crane! I have 20 next weekend and I'm already a little nervous about it. It's been a few years since I've trained for the marathon so I haven't run these sorts of distances in quite some time. Our marathon is in 6 weeks and everyone is getting nervous, beginning to get those self-doubts...

Brandy - Very cool! I'd love to do a (running) relay. What an awesome experience that must be.

Evening all! Got out for an evening 16 miler in on/off rainy conditions which helped cool down the temps/humidity crap combo. It also provided a very quiet experience along the water as most people were staying inside. I loved every second of it!

Nice recap Brandy and way to pick up some road kill on that last leg!

Fab job on your 20 miler, Craney!!!!

GREAT job on the relay, Brandy!

Cherl--it's so good to have you around again--hope your kiddos are guuud! I understand the LR nerves but 20 will be OK..I was actually surprised how much better it went than the 17.

I used to live in SD (Mission Valley area near 8) :)
