Yep, that would be me. I just can't seem to wrap my head around 18 miles today. Even the group motivation isn't helping. I don't know what it is today. Maybe because it's going to be warm and sunny the last half of the run? Ugh. I'm trying to convince myself that a dip in the ocean post-race would make for a great reward. But I'm not buying it...

Good luck, racers!

I just finished up 15.4 miles. Not too bad. Overall avg pace was 8:57, which I'll take. I was cruising nicely in the middle, but then faded a bit over the last couple miles. So yup, I still think a new marathon PR might be a wee bit out of reach. Here are my splits: 9:27, 9:04, 9:13, 9:21, 9:04, 8:49, 8:49, 8:49, 8:44, 8:43, 8:43, 8:39, 8:47, 9:04, 8:49.

My whole family is eavesdropping over my shoulder this morning. My wife saw the Google map of my run and thought it looked like I was giving her the finger:

I went out for a group run today. My goal was to plan a 5 mile route and try to run 4 of it. I ended up running with someone new to our group who runs slower than I think I can, but that was a good thing because it was very warm and humid (thank goodness for clouds and breezes!). She was originally going to do 4 but her DH suggested she try for 5 because she is gearing up for a 10K in Sept and she's been doing 4 for a few weeks. So we teamed up. It worked out pretty well. I had to put in a little bit of walking toward the end so she went ahead. I ended up running approx 4.5 of the 5 miles and she ran the whole thing. We both ran further together than we would have separately.

Yay! Finished the Madison Mini Marathon this am. Ended up going with my friend, Michelle, which was supah fun given it was her first 1/2. We discussed going out at an 8:30 pace, but clicked off the first 2 miles under 8. I decided to back off a little because: (1) she and I are both competitive and I didn't want to push her for a blow up; and (2) I didn't want to blow up either. It was crazy soupy - low 70s and 97% humidity. I stuck about 20-40 secs behind Michelle the whole time and hoped I'd catch up around mile 11 or 12 so we could finish together but never did. I finished in 1:47:48ish - she was 1:47:11. It was awesome and she was pretty happy. I was pretty excited too given that I did not blow up and I felt nice and controlled the whole time. Yay. About 9 minutes slower than last year, but given the weather and my recent training, I'm perfectly okay with that.

Just surprised DS#1 with our trip to Chicago and the field museum - I'm outta here.

Congrats RIL!!! That's a great performance in this weather. We had the same soupy weather here too. When we looped back to the LRS at the end of the first 9 miles (around 6:30am) one of my friends told me that the current weather was 80 degrees and 85% humidity.

Someone asked about Wade yesterday...well he was out there with us today in our group on the long run. 4 of us did the full 22 miles. Pace was a little quicker than last week and we had no rain today, plenty of sunshine, heat and humidity. I'm glad that's over with.

There was one incident towards the end of the run. We were runing two by two down a dirt path that we typically use, when I heard Wade hollar from the back of the group. I just assumed that he stuck his size 13 shoe in a hole and was about to fall down, but what actually happened was that he saw a snake moving down towards the trail. And it was on my side!!! I'm glad I didn't see it. Freaked us all out. We had to stop when we hit the pavement to let our heart rates settle down a bit.

Good running vibes to anyone who might need them still. I hope everyone survived the weather again.

Afternoon all! I reevaluated my plan to run long this morning after considering the 10 mile tempo effort finished after 9 p.m. last night and went for 7.5 miles instead. Again on Summer Streets (last Saturday for them is today) and this time stopped by to check out the dumpster pools a bit more set up along Park Ave at around 41st St. Check 'em out...

Tim - I have no doubt Wade would have fought off that meanie snake for you BTW, nice 22!

boB - nice LR!

Cherl - hope your LR is going well, I've had runs like that where I was a bit negative and not too excited but not for any good reason. Hopefully you found a groove once moving and it carried you through + that ocean dip sounds pretty fantastic!

Hola! Been missing for awhile - too much to do and pretty shitty running to report so I've not been around. It started to pick up this week - no coincidence coming about the same time as the temps and humidity started to drop! I ran a decent 5k last Sat in 18:28 which was 25-30 seconds faster than I'd been doing recently, and then on Wed night this week I did the local free 5k series. It was insane - a BUNCH of cross country teams showed up so the pacing was all over the place. I lined up with maybe 4 kids ahead of me, and within the first quarter mile I was in about 30th place! Of course, they all started slowing down and I wound up 3rd overall (had the race been a 4 miler, I'd have caught the 2 punks ahead of me). I was really pleased with my time - 17:50. It's still way off the 17:20's I ran about 5 times last summer, but it was major progress.

Tomorrow I'm doing a half marathon - planning to run it as a marathon pace workout and run 6:30-6:40 for the first 8-10 miles and then hopefully pick it up from there. We'll see!

So, other than Bob giving his wife the bird, what's been going on around here?!

No Missy updates from this end although I might contact her friend and mid-wife Meredith to see if there's any updates, don't wanna bother momma if she's in the thick of it.
