First off, you are now officially my favorite person ever!!!

I don't mind pain or hard work at all, but I fear that "law of diminishing returns" monster---he's going to get me eventually. But, dammit, I'm still trying to out run him. I can't add too much to my mileage, but I certainly hope to add to the quality of my runs over the next few years. I'm just amazed at how much there is to learn...it's crazy!

duck - nice company to be running with; he does seem to have a lot of promise for certain

Thanks for the input folks - as nice as the Carnelian Room is supposed to be, I don't know if I want to be traveling 1200 steps up to get up there. If I'm going to travel up that far, I'd probably want it to be on a trail with scenic vistas all around

Thanks.

2007 was a great year for a lot of the 30s guys. I'd expect that Tim and Myron will soon be joining the BQ club. And there are several others that are right behind them, includng yourself, who could all make a big move within the next year or two. I'm predicting a lot of good things from all of those guys - and soon.

hey all,

Just back from 6 miles on the hotel treadmill. Yikes...have I mentioned that I hate that thing. I took it relatively easy at a 9:00 mm pace. I have some residual pain in the left left shin area below the knee. Still a hold over from the ankle twist ski incident. On the good side, the swelling in my ankle area is going down some.

I'll be on the 'mill again tomorrow and then back on the street (maybe the track) on Friday. LR on Saturday. Maybe a double on Sunday if I feel like it.

Next week I should be able to do some big miles while I'm attending a convention in California. But, I'm skiing again at the end of the week. I'll probably be fully recovered by then. Hopefully, I won't do something stupid and twist it again.

nice pictures Voo. But I wish you would quit complaining about the conditions. I just got in from 38 degress with a biting wind that probably knocked the wind chill down to about oh..... 28.

(ducks Voo swining a big hambone fist at me)

Well, I went inside on the TM after work today for my run. Figured I'd take it easy on the Achilles. Got in 7 miles in 1:01:02. Not a bad run for a treadmill run, actually. I tried to look at the display as little as possible. No camera on my run today.

Hi, kids--

I'm dreaming of running tomorrow. I promised myself that I would go home at 10:00 tonight, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make it. (Catching up on the thread is not helping me get done any faster ) Still today's been a good day, but I can't wait to run tomorrow. I'm going to try to catch the 6:30 bus to school tomorrow so I start running as soon as the gym opens at 7:00. 3 miles on tap for tomorrow. Did I mention that I can't wait to run tomorrow?

Cus, I'm so excited about your castlessness! Please be careful out there. Btw, I'm not doing Martha's Run on April 12 anymore. I'm doing a Riverside run next to the stadiums on April 19 instead. There's a 5k and a 10k and I'm doing the 10k. I don't know if you'll be running 3.1 miles by then, but if you are. . .

I'm loving the mutual admiration society that's forming here and all the humility. "No, you're a better runner." "No, you are." "No, you." You're all fricken awesome, OK?!?!?!

Duck You have a brass set to casually hook up with a kid like that. Anyone that has an article written about them and gets a call from Vin Lananna probably has some skillz. I did a run a few weeks ago where a friend of a friend was the former top runner in Cincinnati (2:15 marathoner and he was more of a 15k/HM guy) - I was thoroughly humbled! And hearing some of the speeds Tom throws down and the mileage that Baggs, Jen, and CoachT rack up is inspriing to me.

The thing I dig about this group is the progress reports and reaching new milestones...Tim, Maria and Myron gunning for Boston, 2oh staring at a PR in Boston, Nettie going ultra, Maples running his first race, moon and bard and others dropping weight and times, Cactus going Ironman, Voo running the times he does at his weight, LLRaceBerg in full marathon maniac mode, and everyone else (please don't feel slighted if you didn't get a mention - I write my posts in 2 minutes max)...even people coming back from injury. All that shit is fun to follow and is a great motivator for me. MANY times during races or workouts I catch myself thinking "I can't slow down - I don't want to post about a crap workout or race!" That was a big disapointment for me in NYC when it went south for me...I knew a lot of you guys were tracking me (or spectating, or just behind me in the race!) and it felt like letting you all down after all the support you'd given. I know in the grand scheme of things it's no big thang, but that's what it feels like sometimes.

Anyhoo - that was a rambler!

I got my run in, and just got home from another babysitting round. I've washed and sanitized myself thoroughly in the hopes of not catching whatever flu thing my sister's got...

So, my run isn't going to add me to the BQ list any time soon (I'm not sure a BQ will ever be in my future, really ) but it was a good one for me: total of 9 miles in 1:21:0x . The middle 5 were the speedwork. It felt good; I'll take it!

Now I'm exhausted and catching up around here...

Pacer - the big green sign was calling for ya no matter how you felt at the end of NYC. Beaker and I were psyched to see you, even if you weren't feeling your best. I know your running motivates and inspires many of us around here...

Moon, we have Hustle Up the Hancock here (just last weekend, actually) and it's 96 floors I think. You should totally do it!! A word of caution, though....running ≠ stair climbing; only a fool would think that long, slow training runs would substitute for the agony of stair training. As always, I'm not saying this happened to me, but...

Pacer, you're awesome.

I just registered for a 20k in Newark NJ on Mar 9, and a HM in Danbury CT on Apr 6. And I'm not even drunk.

Litch, you're registered for the Danbury HM, right? Did you see that they have the "Stratton Faxon Distance Challenge", in which they give awards to the three lowest combined times in each age group for people who run this race, plus a 5-miler in Branford on Jun 15, the Fairfield HM on Jun 22, and the New Haven 20k on Sep 1? I'm already planning on doing the New Haven race, so maybe I should consider doing the other two as well.

Heck, how many people are actually going to run all four races? Maybe I'll actually have a shot at getting one of these age awards, even if I don't come close to the top 3 in any individual race. Hmm...

Great post, PC! I'm very eager to get myself running some decent miles again and working towards a big fall! I know you all will be in my mind when I get out tomorrow a.m. ...of course if things fall apart, I'll also blame y'all.

Got in my 4 miles as promised, despite having dark thoughts about skipping. Good Lord, that indoor track is getting boring!

And lest anyone think that I am taking the Lord's name in vain, I maintain that the above comment is really a prayer for the early arrival of spring.

What she said!

I hope you get your run in tomorrow, Prae!

I could do maybe 8 miles in that time, if I threw in a bit of speed work. Great job!
Yay!!!!!

Well, I'm still at school at 10:45, so I don't think so.

Pacer, that was a great post. I hope you know that I was kidding with my "mutual admiration society" post. I seriously admire the whole lot of 'ya, especially because it doesn't matter how many times you've BQ'd or how few miles you run, everyone here is inspiring just because they're overcoming adversity and getting it done. No one has it easy, and yet we all persevere and challenge ourselves to meet our own goals. I aspire to be like many of you when I grow up, even if I can't be as fast or run as far because you all pick yourselves up when you fall and cheer each other's successes. Like Mr. Darcy, "I've been a selfish being all my life," but I'm learning through you folks how to be a little less so. I can't guarantee that I won't experience pangs of jealousy at times when someone achieves something that I can only dream about achieving, but I'll do my best to cheer all the louder to overcome it.

Final note (before I have to revoke my own lisence to post sentimentally): When I'm struggling through a run, my favorite distraction is to imagine everyone here surprising me by showing up to the 2009 Pittsburgh marathon and running me in the last 10k. It immediately helps me to keep going, even though I know it is pure fantasy. That doesn't matter because I feel you all running with me and that's enough.

Wow, do I need sleep, or what?
