Unfortunately for a little while. But I did a pretty good "bump" kind of like our banana

I always thought of myself as a Badass, even after reading the categories when this round was announced. I just never got around to signing up because life gets in the way. I guess skiing counts as crosstraining so I could rack up some points on that in the next week.

I was going to whine about feeling old this morning but then I saw the post above about no whining. I've been doing some good self-talk this morning after getting a cramp in my left calf at 5:30. I had a good run last night-2 hours of alternating easy and tempo. 35:02 easy, 17:01 tempo (2 mi.), 31:59 easy, 11:37 tempo (1.33 mi.), 19:19 easy, and a real cooldown by walking 5:03. Burned 1,306 calories so inhaled a lot of food when I got home. Eating chicken tamales at 9:30 at night just seems crazy but it so good, with the first Shiner Bock of the year to signal the arrival of spring like it says on the can. I liked my slower tempo pace, about 16 seconds slower than where I've been, with an AHR of 164 instead of the typical 170's. After the first 2 miles, I felt good enough to keep going another 2, thinking of Econo's first tempo run, but decided against it and stuck to my Daniels plan (but came up a couple of minutes short on the tempo portion).

A couple of nice haikus this morning! JJJ's had me LOL.

Peter, GL on your marathon. Lots of nice runs today, but alas, I cannot join you. I seem to have developed a mild case of PF. I'm hoping the advil and ice will enable me to do my LR tomorrow. Boston's not far away, this is not good timing...

But it was a good day for some weight/core training.

Good morning to everyone. I have a great Iggy Pop long sleeve t-shirt that I found in one of my son's rooms. Son claims he never saw it before. It's definitely a woman's shirt. Huh. Anyway, I had a good workout today. I walked 1 mile w/u and c/d, ran 2 miles with an elevation on the treadmill, did 22 minutes of elliptical, and 15 minutes of stretching. Felt great when it was finished.

My neck & shoulder are still stiff -- it started on Monday. I thought maybe I had slept funny on Sunday. At lunchtime today I'm heading over to the chiropractor.

I got the results of my stress test and everything seems fine. One more worry to cross off my list! Now if I could just get my breathing under control......

Nice run Opie.

Things would be nicer for me if my ribs weren't still sore.
I'll run easy after lunch and XT lite.

I feel like damaged dynamite.
If I don't run I'm going to explode.
Good morning all --
Run well, Peter...
good news, Riley!

Saw the thugette at the health club I joined this morning; it's clearly going to be more stretching when I see her again next week. She coded the legs "VT" for very tight. (I think she didn't have a code for Titanium tight).

3 minutes bopping up and down the steps for her - cardio; stretching, 500 yds swim; and I found the bicycles & whirred for 9.25 miles while I watched the talking heads discuss the stock market.

Have a good day and weekend, all...

Good morning everyone! Great haikus Great runs and workouts!

Iggy Pop has the best abs in show biz.

Ran 4 breezy miles @11:20 min/mile pace last night at the beach, where I saw a surf dude on a skateboard being pulled along by a dog (looked like a husky). He actually told the dog to "Mush". Only in Los Angeles...

JJJ sorry to hear your ribs hurt...hope your run puts things right.

REST day today for the butterfly lady. The leg feels amazingly well today considering the high mileage week I am having...just the way I like it...I am so looking forward to my 20 miler tomorrow, I will be home alone, so I will not feel guilty to be gone for more than four hours on a Saturday morning.

Peter, you are so going to ROCK at the Shamrock Marathon.

Perchcreek- insteresting observation about running by HR...please keep us posted on your findings about HR running.
Roachrunner, hang in there frend...glad to hear that you can bike now.
Opie, great run yesterday. I notice that you are training by the hour and not the daily miles...how is that working out for you?

I want Ksrunr legs and lungs so I can run 10 miles in the morning and be able to bike 30 miles after lunch.

My butterfly friend, in theory I've been training by time for a while, but in reality I give in to the mileage temptation when I'm on the roads. For trail running time works a lot better. Otherwise it's easy to get sucked into negative self-talk like it's only x miles and at this pace, I could just walk that many miles.

I actually had a mental breakthrough last night about timed running. Dove, are you listening? I had a mental barrier about timed events like Concentric in the Dallas area in November because it's a short loop, but I just spent 2 hours running on a 1-mile loop in the park last night, so no problem. Maybe the mp3's helped.

You know, while in Paraguay I trainned solely by time and I was so surprised towards the end of my trip, how much distance I could cover in a one hour workout. Sure do not know what to attribute to, except the fact that the mind was freed up to do what it wanted to do and not be limited by a certain speed I was pushing reach.

Roy - nice trail run!!
Perch - nice sproinky 14+
Peter - GL on Sunday!
KS - Still a good 10+ run!
Econo & Tamster - have a good lunch with maybe some chocolate for dessert!

I went out for a later run than planned. Put on long sleeve and a pair of black running pants. Stepped out on the front porch to check the temp and came back in to change into short sleeves. Filled up my water bottle. Searched high and low, but could not find my water belt holster thingy so dumped the water.

12 miles in 1:38:10. Very happy with that one. Felt good and I didn't kick the inside of my ankle once (bad habit I have that can be painful!).

TGIF!

Irunmike... NOOOOOoooo!! Not PF! ack... so close to Boston... no good. And Team I needs you, man! Hang in there, take care of that thing and be good!

Mariposai, here's sending you snowy hugs for taking a rest day!

Perch, nice run! I love it when things fall in place like that and it just works.

Go Peter! You'll do great, can't wait to hear the details. Hope it's not too windy....

I did sorta run with the kids last night. Don't think I embarrassed my little soccer stud too much. I started out while they were still getting assembled by the rec center door, and headed out towards the farm and Ester Dome (of Equinox fame). Traffic wasn't too bad, but I sure get irritated at these drivers who have nobody in the oncoming lane but they won't move over an inch for you! So much ice on the shoulder I was running in the road for quite a bit of it. Turned around after 3+ miles and headed back, saw the team running up the steep hill by my office as I went by so I knew they'd done their out-and-back already. Got to my car, walked circles a bit (10k in 53 minutes...ok too fast, but felt EZ), then jogged down the sidewalk to meet them, turned when I got to DS2 and jogged back with then. One of the kids said "Yeah, it's our running mom!" so that was kinda cool.

Today is sposed to be a rest day, but I do have the whole day off so will figure out something to do for some VRAA points...

ETA note to SS... that's ok dear, take care of yourself and work on the Suck it Up part later...

I am swooning here over tomwhite's and JJJessee's haikus! SWOON!

Hally, I will try to talk FastForward into working the water stop with y'all. :0

Hi All. Today's run was supposed to be a 5 mile easy pz run. But just before I was set to turn around and head back in, a hiker came from up ahead and told me he'd just spotted a bald eagle along the path, just a 1/2 mile or so ahead. (In reality, I think it was one of the leaders of Team rUnbeatable, trying to get me to go just one extra mile; either way, it worked, and I put in an extra mile.) 6.0 miles, no bald eagles, in 57:00 (9:30 pace), just the same as yesterday. So maybe I have to change my handle to "Just the same as yesterday". But that's not very exciting, is it?

Flutterby - I'll loan you some legs and lungs whenever you need some. I have plenty vo2!

Pink - I went back to look at my earlier post after reading yours. I don't know how the unhappy smilie got there. I was happy with my run. You had a good one too.

((irunmike pf and 3J ribs)

26 miles on the bike in 85 degree sunny day with gentle breeze.

Done for the day.

Hi Kickster! I am jeolouse of all the great running today. Glad to hear susans stress test came out ok. IrunMike, hope that PF is just minor and you get over it soon & Jessie, the ribs.

I have not run since Monday, thought I might be able to run yestarday then today but no such luck. I think this is the worst virus I have had in a few years. I wonder if the body stores this stuff to wait for an oppertune time to kill an old virus or do needed ignored repairs on the body and brain.

Starting out my 2 week break, it was more or less balls to the wall trying to catch up on chores, I was stressed to the max and mother nature had the last word. It has given me an oppertunity to just stop and think, clear out my head, do some journaling, read and other low key things. It seems though that this is a common theme with runners, the incedence of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibro Malasia is much higher in the running population than in the average population. Probably not caused by running but by the way we go about everything else with the same enthusiasm and determination.

How many people would be excited about a PR clearing the deck of snow? I remember back in my workdays, during the summer, I loved to go camping. I actually did weights during the week in a way that would enhance my performance in hooking up the trailer. When the weekend came, I would time myself in prepairing and hooking up the trailer to driving out of the driveway.

Good Runs All, Larry

Happy Friday everyone, and good luck to anyone racing this weekend.

20 miles on the bike, 20 minutes of weights and 20 minutes of stretching. Life is good.

No swim tonight, but will do so tomorrow.

Wow. I logged back in at the old "Boomers & Beyond" forum and found that the only active thread left there is fred's 50+ discussion. All the other ones on the front page seem to get posts only every few days and some are months old. There's a thread on the first page that I started before the transition, and it still hasn't been bumped off!
