<p>That really is an interesting article; thanks for posting it. I have always suspected that the numbers in the chart at the bottom of the page might be in that range, but I've never seen them spelled out before.</p>

<p>I can relate to the feeling he describes of pushing yourself too hard too fast and getting sucked into injuries. I stopped running after hurting my knee during a half-marathon, in a week when I had done a group long run I had no business doing. I mean, I knew I should stop at 16 miles at the very longest and yet, for some dumb reason, I did the rest of it anyway. This time around I am taking everything so painstakingly slow that it is almost laughable. Fewer miles, slower increases, slower paced training, fewer races.</p>

<p>That said, if one grooves to the longer distances, that is what one should do--not everyone's idea of a good time is hurling after a 5K, and it's all about enjoying oneself.</p>
