Hey Merc

Good to hear from you and glad to see your keeping in shape. I see that Gro has finally worn you down, may the force be with you.

I have been training steady for the last three weeks and am planning a 4-5 mile run today.

My Garmin died on me a little while ago (second one to do so) So I ordered one of these from ebay. goes for $375 at sports expert with the HR strap and I got from Ebay brand new for $149 + $13 for shipping with the HR strap included and the bike mount.

Time to fuel up before my run.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Greetings everyone , lovely morning to be outdoors. Went out earlier to do my cookie factory loop, 6k door to door. Lots of leaves down, squirrels running all over the place, no wind, quite peaceful. Calm before the storm from what I gather ...have a good week everyone. fly

ok Roly .. . . start up loading to endomondo.com .. . . and share the the details!

hi fly!

alls good here, getting in 5 days a week of reasonable quality running, trying to get a little faster .. . . lost a few pounds lately, off the cheeseburgers/beer/wine/crap-in-general .. . . putting my name in the hat for WS100 again[2013 might be the year I get in], planning a couple of other 100's .. . details to follow.

looks like we're in for some stormy weather, perfect timing . . .. I'm flying to NFL in the morning. . . Yikes :(

the experiment continues

Good goin' everyone. Yesterday was a day off following a 1 hr. 50 minute run into a very strong wind. My hips were burning as this old boy fights off arthritis that my doctor predicted would hit me in time because of all the running I was doing. My plan is to keep adding mileage gradually, pick up some snowshoes for running when down in Maine and get back into the gym doing some serious resistance training again. My partner & I just took out a membership at the sport complex at UNB where we discovered that the rates were half of the cost of either GoodLife or the YMCA because I am an alumnus there....whew! They even have an indoor track there, albeit not quite a 200m. but certainly better than the dreadmill. Guess I'll get get some speed work in over the winter....yay!

Hey Gang, been a busy week for me.

Df7 Lovely time of the year to run but my week day runs are in the dark.

Gro Good luck in the WS1000 draw and can not wait to hear your plans for the other 100

Merc good luck with your training.

To keep my training structured i am following a half marathon training plan, which by coincidence lines up with the Hypothermic half in February. Not sure if i will enter but it is good to know that it is an option.

Got in a 2.5 mile run this morning started at an 8:30 ish pace and slowly increased so that the last half mile was around 7:40 ish pace

Take care

Roly

Good going Roly. Seems you've got your head screwed on straight! I am still seriously considering the VT50 with Gro but I see a 42.1 in there at some point this winter or spring. Was looking at Disney today but it's sold out already....doh! Looking now at the Shamrock in VA instead.

Today I ran for a solid 100 minutes and the second half felt way better than the first so things are very encouraging. The hip issue disappeared, thank goodness, but I did some stretching at the end today and really must make that a regular thing to fight off injuries before they appear....that and some pool work with water running and flutter kicking etc. at the UNB pool.

Headed for Maine Wednesday with Jeff & his Mom to visit family and hope to pick up some running snowshoes somewhere in Kittery or Bangor.

Wow....2 weeks since anyone blogged here. What gives? I know, busy time for everyone and I include myself as well. The last three weeks or so has seen me running about 4 times per week no less than 80 minutes per session and I would guess about 12K on average. I am just trying to build a base and let my old sore foot to readjust to the work I put on it. So far, so good. It doesn't get sore when running any more, sometimes the day after but more of a dull ache that doesn't prevent me from training. I never thought I'd reach that point again.

I work in the classroom part time as a teaching assistant which keeps me on my toes but I only supply, not full time and only at the middle and/or high school for the special education kids and I work on average about twice a week. That is all I want.

I have taken out a membership at UNB to use their weight room / pool and running track ( 160m. or 10 laps to a mile) so in the cold weather I have a place to hide. I am currently on a resistance program of 8 exercises that work the major muscle groups and will gradually reduce my reps to 8 from 12 x 3 sets. Roly will appreciate that! In addition, I will re-join the Capital City Road Runner's team on Jan. 1st, so I don't have to run alone any more.

I just love those Age - Graded scales that are used on Runners World. Notwithstanding my much lower speeds these days, they graded my fall, half-marathon @ 1:24 and my 10K at 37:10. The half would be a PR if it were true and the 10K would be about 45 seconds off a PR as well. Ridiculous, but that's the price for aging I guess.

I hope to do some snowshoeing this winter to make it bearable and still get in some mileage but I will get back on the treadmill for some faster / shorter runs in anticipation of the spring racing season. I see a 10K or two somewhere along the way as well as a half, a full ( or even a 50 miler in Vermont) somewhere in the late spring.

Happy holidays everyone! I'll be staying in Fredericton this year!

Hello merc
It's been a while since I've put my nose in here too... Guess we all do the FB/twitter thing.....
So it's been snowing here all day, YUL gets rain went out for a very pretty 10k trot in the snowflakes with Gomez and the intrepid pacer, when I got home I was greeted by the news that I've got into the WSER 100! Over 3000 names in the lottery (me x 2) they picked 275 odds of 7.9% or slightly better.... I'm in!
So now to plan 2013, I'm signed up for Vermont which sold out in 2 days, and I will do the 100 version of Pittsfield, no Ottawa marathon this year, VT50 for sure, doubt if I'll bother with st donat.... too close to WS. I'll be at Moosalamoo for sure.... Gonna be a good year again. I just hope the old corpus delectus holds up.

Happy trails my friends

Congrats GROMMIT!\!\ Wow, you are going to be busy this next year!! Keep us posted.

It sounds like everyone is still training well.--Nice new gear ROLY!! I like Timex too.

---MERC. .It sounds like you have been as active as ever!\ I am glad the hip wasn't serious.

I am back at it.. (Slower, now) I am loving the indian summer or whatever you call this

weather we are having.. I am trying to avoid the pavement still, and I really notice

the difference now. My knee doesn't react well to an entire asphalt run anymore. I hope

that it doesn't interfere with a couple road races every now and again. They are fun.

I want to wish all of the runners on here Happy Holidays! I miss seeing everyone.

Truxx

Hey Gang,

Truxx good to see you are still alive and I hear you about the pavement.

Grommit WS wow thats going to be awsome for you.

Merc, Lower reps more weight = more muscles are you bulking up.

Been sick for the last few weeks with a nasty cold that has pushed my running back a little + I have not been able to get motivated with my running more then just getting out there and doing it when I can. No plans for next year except the race with my brother-in law and wifes cousins but even that I can't really say I'm excited.

Take care gang.

Well, as the world did not come to an end went out to finish the Christmas shopping - which is exercise then popped into the gym for some tm, weights, abs and stretching...felt good.

Greetings from Roatan! Christmas is postponed due to a scheduling conflict with two weeks of beach & diving!

Happy trails folks, see you in 2013!

Greetings from my European running paradise. Given that my usual turf just got filled with snow, I am happy to be able to run at +13 C in a mild rain.

Happy holidays everybody

Ralf

Merry Christmas to all the runners on here! I hope the Holidays bring your family and friends together.

I am running with my new IceBugs, and they are helping out with the grip on some icy spots along my run.

The trails are well worn with all the walkers and hikers, so I was able to run a loop that I usually run.

It was really quiet out there this morning.

O.K. I hope you all have a Happy New Year!

Truxx

Hey everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays... or are still enjoying them!

It's been a while since I've been here and I have a lot of reading to do! From a quick scan, it looks like the posts have slowed down quite a lot.

For my part, I had a great couple of weeks and I have finally started running again. I pretty much stopped since September, with a couple false starts, good intentions, broken motivation, etc. scatterred throughout the last 4 months. But the good news is I'm feeling ready to run regularly again.

Hope you are all doing well and staying healthy.

Cheers,

Fred

Nice to hear from everyone, Ralf, are you back ? Gro ? Mercury, how are you ?

Not cold out there today, just got back from a slow 10k around the hood. Got to be careful, there is ice under this beautiful snow - I fell on a corner, feet slid from underneath me..no damage, just winded. Dusted myself off and waddled home, now to a hot bath.

Just checked the forecast for the coming week, really cold tomorrow, then it lightens up to the possibility of rain by the end of the week.

Take care - fly

howdy folks, my route that usually take me about 55-60 mins today took 1hr 51mins .. . . every step sunk about 6 inches into the soft wet snow on the snowmobile trails where one does one's weekend thing, i really should have been on snowshoes :D

yesterday I managed to get a **** 20+kms of snowy hills with my intrepid pacer .. ..

all in all a pretty good first week back 7hrs 35mins of running!

hows everybody else doing?
