John, That is great news about Barb.

I went out for 8.43 miles in just under an hour today. The last couple miles were very tough. Rumors of the humidity breaking were unfounded as it was 80° and 72% humidity when I ran. The last couple miles I also had a breeze at my back which meant I was running in still air. When the sun would come out behind the clouds, I would start to bake. Made it back home with a 5 lb weight loss.

I am sure this will get me in great shape when the cool weather comes in the fall!!

Resting my hamstring today by running errands, er, driving them. Bought new running shoes though, Brooks Glycerin 8. I'm looking forward to trying them out tomorrow. Yoga class this evening.

Great news on Barb, KS. Good to hear from Munch as well. Irun, hope your hamstring feels better as well.

OK, back to my chores and errands now....

Erika..I was looking at the results from the 15K trail race I ran in over the weekend and noticed about a dozen runners from Fairbanks. It appears to be 9 HS aged runners and 3 chaperones. Do you know anything about this? They certainly had some impressive times. I did see a group of HS aged kids in uniforms I didn't recognize, but didn't pay it much attention.

OK the link worked....now to try to insert a photo

Looks like that worked too. The above is Erik Skaggs, a local ultra runner, in the finishing chute. He won the 50K in 3:43, 3 minutes slower than the course record he set last year. This on a course with over 4000 feet of elevation gain & loss. Considering all the mud on the course this year that probably was to be expected. I'm amazed at his form after 31 miles, the vast majority of which were in the hot sun.

Can't say I like his new haircut though.

Johnny, thanks for that link! Yes, that's the Lathrop High School cross country team, the one my son was on but he didn't continue (well, he graduated, too). Kevin Brinegar and Chad Carroll are the coaches. Kyle Hanson, Pat Nugent and Luke Castellini are really strong runners. Luke is also on my younger son's soccer team. I see our boys placed in the top 5 in their AG, but surprised some of the girls didn't do better.

Thanks for Barb's update, KS. She is one tough, determined lady!!

Glad those naughty pups didn't do any damage, Susan!

Ribs, thanks for the link. I need to go back and read that again.

Econo, I always wound up sneezing and coughing for a good day after a long pool swim. I eventually figured out it was chlorine-induced asthma. My Dr. agreed, and suggested rinsing out the nasal passages after a swim and/or using Nasonex spray to stop the post-nasal drip that contributed to the problem.

Have fun in the mud, Dove!

Nothing again for me today. The ankle is better still and more stiff than sore, but yea, it's still a knankle! Will spin tomorrow and then look to hit the pool later in the week. Hope I can get the foot into the bike shoes.... I really hate those cages!

I liked the article Ribs - I must have had a pre-fatigued run tonight

Barb must be a very strong person!

8.2 miles tonight with the sun setting. While out on my run, I remembered the local cross country race series started tonight - guess I missed it.

I ran with three members of the Portland State women's x-country team this evening. They toyed with me.

5 miles in 35:45. IRC (ideal running companions)
