You have to watch out for those rogue 6 year olds...they are taking over the neighborhoods! Candy cigarettes, fake tattoos, pimped out Big Wheels...a rough crowd indeed.

Seriously - my defense would have been hawking a lunger on that kid. I'd have said "Oh, sorry, I didn't see you there...I thought only a-holes did crap like this!"

Got in a nice 8 miler at lunch today with some good ascents (sounds more impressive than saying "hills". We had a good chuckle - some of the guys got a headstart on me and this other guy Nate. I ran with Nate till we hit these big hills and one guy had turned around. We ran up the hill together and then I ran ahead to catch the 4th guy in front of us. Nate pointed out that I always run with him till the point that there's someone faster to run with or someone out ahead of us for me to hunt down. So now I call Nate my Ugly Chick...I stick with him till better options come along. We were cracking up!

If I get in town in time for the Schwetty Ballz run, will it include the run up the library steps?! I think I'm going to force my group to run up the stairs if they make their time - like a victory lap!

Just got back from 6 miles. Ol' Uncle Hal called for 6 at marathon pace. I ran it in 49:12 (8:12/mile). That might be a bit optimistic on the pace. But I felt good and wanted to stretch the lungs one last time before the race.

My legs always seem to feel like crap during the taper, especially in the last week. I'm sure there's a reason, but I've always gotta remind myself that that's just the way of it. Even today my legs felt lousy at the beginning.

Dude! to that!

Moon, nice smiley pictures!!

I got 4.5 mi in this morning before taking DD1 to preschool. I'm taking the rest of the day off. Sore throat, don't feel good. Gotta rest up for next weekend!

Moon, love that million dollar smile in those photos

Running. Um. Tomorrow is 6 miles give or take.

Thanks for all the input, folks. I definitely will head towards the elliptical next time. And...big plus, we have an indoor pool at the gym, so I will also take advantage there.

Tonya - I only call it shin splints cause that's what the doctor called it last year! But you're probably right, sigh. Am I off to assume that it wouldn't be a stress fracture simply because it doesn't hurt nearly as much as it did last year when I had the MRI to rule out the stress fx?

Joe - I was so distracted by your smile I almost missed that last photo...but amazing transformation!

Good luck to Flem, Heather and Doc in your respective races!

I have to go off to a conference call now, blech. It feels weird to not be running today (or, as it is in my world, trying to run)...

Thanks, Tonya. Makes sense to me...the shin pain started, I believe, as a result of the calf strain I was having recently.

Tim - I won't say I won't until Sunday morning. If I'm still feeling pain that morning, I won't.

Ran 3 miles on the hilly route today. It felt pretty good, except my foot going numb again. I noticed it started at my toes. Such a weird feeling. Also did an upper body workout with the trainer.

Good luck to all the racers this weekend. I have a 5 mile race tomorrow. It is the last race of a summer series I am doing. It is also the first race I ever did, which was last year. I am hoping I'll shave a little bit off my time this year. We shall see!

Have a great weekend!

OK I don't have time to read through all the posts. But I just had to post my MYRON MOMENT - I just overheard the woman at the desk near mine telling someone on the phone "I think I'm getting your cold". My immediate thought was "Stay the F*ck away from me." I grabbed the hand sanitizer and put it on my desk. I'm convinced that I've already been exposed and I'm going to down some Airborne as soon as it stops fizzing in the cup here and suck on coldeze on the bus ride to my car.

Do you think it'd send out a bad vibe if I wore rubber gloves and a medical mask in the office next week?
