Pacer- I'm ok...spent a little pool/bikini time yesterday working on my tan with the other unemployed peeps which helped. Don't worry, I won't expect them to be as cool as you. I may meet up with some of the PRT'ers at the Long Beach marathon/half/5k (I'm doing the 5k) on the 14th.

Speaking of flyovers: one time DH and I were having dinner at a nice place outside Kenmore Sq (Elephant Walk, for those in the know). All of a sudden, there was a sound like a bomb went off and we weren't the only ones to cover our heads and duck. The All Star game as at Fenway that night...and there was a flyover. Which scared the living shite out of us and our fellow diners.

I was thinking the same thing.

Sweet...when do you get the convertible mercedes?

4:00 is 9:09 min/mile, so targeting in the 9:10-9:30 range is good for a few miles (the crowds will help keep you to a slow start). If you can start around there and then ease it down to 9:10 pace by mile 4 or 5, you should be in good shape (not more than a minute or so slow). Check in with the 4 hour pace leader (I think it's Catherine?) for her strategy, and don't be overly concerned if you're a little fast or a little slow early, as long as it's not 40+ seconds in a mile either way! Also take into account the hills - if the first few miles have some climb or descent, the pace will vary based on that.

The key is to be somewhere near 9:10 and have it feel very comfortable. I'm guessing with the late hills in TC, the pacer will try to bank some time between say 8 and 18 or 10 and 20, something like that - not too much, but a few seconds per mile. By then you'll be warmed up, pretty close to target time and feeling fresh so banking 5-10 seconds per mile won't kill you...it'll will help you when the late hills hit and you'll invariably give back a little time to the course.

Korbs - my first 3 miles will be well over my planned MP esp. b/c of the crowds. I should be a good 30 secs. off pace for those miles and then slide down further into MP. I've had success with picking up my pace in the very late miles and so that will be my plan this weekend. Start off slow - MP + 30 secs. (mi. 0-3/4), ease into MP (mi. 3/4-15), bust through where the wheels usually start to fall off - MP - 5/10 secs. (mi. 15-19), bring it home - MP [hopefully, - 20/30 secs] (mi. 19-26.2)

THANKS for the input. I like that 40 second number. if I can catch up to the 4 hour pacer and chat with her a bit I will do that too!

I think I saw you are at the expo Saturday from 5pm-8pm. I am pretty sure I will miss you, probably will pick my stuff up around 3pm maybe sooner so I can get home and relax. (I live about an hour away). if I does work out I get their later though I will absolutely stop by the booth!

Korbel - I'm planning on going out about :20 over what I think I can run for the first 5k at least. I'm wearing my Forerunner to keep me in check. Haven't done that for a marathon before.

Also, what I like to do is start a bit further back of where I should be. This way the crowd helps keep the pace down. I usually do this in anything longer than a 10k.

Trust me, it crossed my mind driving down there.
