I need to catch up on the weekend thread still, but wanted to say hello and good morning before the day gets away from me.

Thank you for all the well wishes on the big conversion last week. My boss sent a message from the boss on the other end that called it "perfect" (how it can be perfect with several errors is beyond me, but I'll take the compliment!). I'm so glad it's over! Now I can move on to being nervous about the new job!

This week's schedule is a little off because of the 4th, but I'm definitely lifting tonight. Tonight is my last session with my trainer. She's moving to New Jersey I will either go to spin or run 2 tonight, depending on what time I can leave work.

Does anyone here water ski? I need a water ski for dummies lesson. My first attempt yesterday did not go well.

Pull back the husks (back, not off), remove corn silk. Recover with the husks, and then soak for a few hours (otherwise, the husks will burn up like paper). Grill on lower heat for 30 mins are so. Easy peasy.

Basil\oregano. No recipe, just pulled the herbs from our garden, washed them, finely chopped, added to a stick of melted butter.

(I actually eat the corn with nothing on it, but the guests enjoyed this).

I am sore in all sorts of new and interesting ways this morning. The bottom of my feet, for instance. Pedals, anyone?

I'm with LitchTim on noticing that winter gives up the love to her family.

Maples My thoughts on grass blades and dew is that they are excellent. Here is a thought - chicks dig scars and although grass blades are not much, they are a start.

No running today. Just soaking up the glory!

Good runs all!

Morning, all!

Quick check in - just got back from my long run of 10 miles this morning. It was nice and east, with a fast finish. I've decided to move my long runs to Monday mornings for the summer -- between Friday nights with the friends and working till 2am Saturday nights, Monday is a better day...

Big ups again to Doc! I hear ya about those gnats, Flem.

Be back later, all. Must go shower.

just realized I missed a window for a morning run since i have a stoopid meeting (today and tommorrow from 12-3....does nobody in the academy have a friggin life or friends?). may see if I can do this when i get home. want to ride my bike home.
just found out that i may have to go to Yakima WA sometime soon for a funeral. sad in and of itself- though we are going more for support and because all hell will break loose if we don't. also bound to be a time when a bunch of sensible shoe wearing churchical people decided to tell how i am the reason for ....i dunno, the war in Iraq, pollution and strip clubs.... oh this is going to be bad, bad and horrible. my poor dog is going to think we are family #4 to dump him when he goes to the boarder.
uh. serenity now?

I really would like opinions and input on the "early morning wet grass syndrome". By jogging on the wet grass my shoes are soaking wet and my socks are soaking wet as well. I was born and raised in the country so it's not like I am prissy or anything... LOL I am used to it. But I don't like jogging on the wet grass and on soggy ground. I guess I will have to risk more wear and tear on my knees, etc. by jogging on the paved track.

thoughts anyone?

Yes, I'm a bit of a water skiing maniac. I grew up on water skis (well one ski to be precise). My extended family owns a small fleet of ski boats, and we play at the lake all summer long. What are the specifics of your trouble? There are many components to sucessfully learning the skill, some of them include, what equipment are you using/what's available...what guidance are you getting from your teacher, and how skilled is your boat driver?

My daugther is 7 and I started teaching her last summer. She's been on skis behind the boat on a long line, and also off the side learning on a barefoot boom.

Flemdawg - Glad you found the new home. Welcome.

Well, I made the commute from Herndon, VA up to Columbia, MD. Took a little less than an hr and wasn't too bad. I'm spending the night up here in Columbia before heading back down to join up with the family after work tomorrow. Got an east 5 on the schedule tonight with a co-worker.

Check back later for QOD.

Good morning runners,

It was a beautiful weekend in Michigan. (Hmm, sort of sounds like the beginning of a story: It was a dark and stormy night. Hehe. I'm partial to Hemingway-esqe style of writing: clear, concise, short, powerful where they need to be, declarative sentences.)

Good runs of 4 miles on Saturday and 6 yesterday. Tonight is a day-off from running-running, but I'll do a little non-running-running (prolly on the treadmill) before a weight training session tonight.

Congrats to The Doc on a monster showing at the Tri.

Grilled corn on the cob: I've never tried grilling it INSIDE the husks, I normally just husk them and grill them right on the grill. (Hmm: grill used a both a noun and a verb. Sounds like a sentence from the Smurfs: "I Smurfed 'em right on the Smurf!"

Hemingway to the Smurfs means more coffee needed for me. Good running to all!

Maples - I run on asphalt pretty much all the time. Yes, it is harder on your knees and joints than grass. I would try it one day and see if makes a difference in how you feel.

Tim - I made them once with removing the silk, spraying olive oil and then grilling and once with just throwing them on there. Both times they were soaked for about 20-30 minutes. I think I liked the silk on version better. I liked that smokey taste to it.

G'morning 30s - I clicked CR out of habit and a voice told me I was in line to win a brand new iPhone

Not that I didn't before, but I have new-earned respect for you folks who can bang out killer 5Ks constantly. For whatever reason, I wanted to let loose a little bit after OT at work (involving a lot of file transporting, lifting & shelving - no, I wasn't tired haha) and do an unofficial hard-effort 5K. Well, I only did 3 miles, but my splits reflect my total inexperience with the format (7:18/8:09/9:03). The warmdown felt good - a half-mile at a sub-12 min pace barefoot session back home.

Sara - good luck with that midterm! And best of luck to you on your interview Nettie!

Hey Litchfield- I had a dream about you last night, but probably not something you'd want to dwell on - some peeved dentist was stalking you threatening to implant you with some nasty dental devices if you didn't cowtow to him. BTW, that corn recipe sounds delicious

Hey there Ann - I was trying to think of folks who might not necessarily get word myself. I know I put in an e-mail to Frankie, Mandy & Lolly as well.

Love the South Park avatar, Bob.

Big you'll-get-through-this-crap-okay hugs to you Winter and Mandy

You got e-mail re: your quad, Maureen
Doc - soak it up; you kicked some major fargin ass indeed

QOD - I guess getting through the San Francisco Marathon 1st Half HM both uninjured and at roughly the time I ran Flying Pig HM is my main July goal. Also I'm hoping and praying that my sessions with a swim coach starting in mid-July go, well, swimmingly.

Maples, I do almost all of my miles on asphalt, and I've survived. In fact, I prefer it because I get nervous on grass because I'm afraid of uneven ground or something I can twist an ankle on, etc. Plus, heck, all my races are on asphalt, so I figure I might as well get used to it...

Eh, I really think it's just a matter of preference. Run on whatever you are most comfortable on...

morning gang,

no run today, but I feel very very good after the long run yesterday. legs are tired, but not sore at all so that rocks.

I found an 8K I can run Wednesday, but it will require hauling my butt outta bed at like 5:30a to get there on time to warm up cuz it starts at 7:30. I am gonna try a couple things in this run different than the 5 miler a few weeks ago. I am going to run at least one full warm-up mile including some strides and then I am going to do everythying in my power to run all of my splits within 10 seconds of each other. we shall see.

Doc I know my DW digs how cool she feels after she finishes a Tri- sounds like you are right there with her! Congrats!

Looks like a QOD of July Goals is out there.

1. drink one less bottle/can of pop and one more bottle of water each day
2. Clean my office at work...it is a train wreck
3. try not to get smoked by Brandy in the Torchlight 5K

WHAT? Smurf references without using any :bigsmurff the smurf smileys?

grass:
um. running on it that is.
i don't like to run on it. its soft, but places that can hurt you (holes, bumps, etc) are hidden.
i run on pavement or i really like running on dirt trails.

So, the QOD is July goals -

1. Stay on track with my fall marathon(s) training schedule
2. Figure out how to accomplish the above while traveling to India for two weeks, and while on a camping trip with the kids, plus biz travel to New Orleans and Columbia, MD.
3. Not get injured while training with more intensity than the past.

I think that this is one of my top 3 favorite smileys! The "accidental smiley!" It just makes me crack up.. like you are pissed that you don't know your exact time? I don't know. I like smileys in random places I guess!

Well, a nice lazy morning. Woke up after having a dream that I was a tourist somewhere (there were guys dressed like people from the middle ages????) and my camera wouldn't work because the batteries had died! Thanks, DrChris! I made some semi-homemade hash browns (scattered, smothered, diced, peppered and covered for those who know. ) I think all this food talk inspired me. Already looking forward to the leftover mexican polenta from yesterday (thanks again McT!!) Tonight- savory bread pudding with a baguette from Whole Foods. Yum!

I will be heading to the gym some time mid-afternoon for a short run and arms workout. That is part of my July goals (Brandy it seems like we have the same goals!)- to get into a regular weight training routine before school starts back. I also want to crosstrain at least once/week- spin 1x/wk and swimming. Ooh, reminds me- I need to go pick up some goggles/cap! I'm also working on the losing weight thing. I'd really like to be down at least 10 lbs by the fall. I've maybe lost 5 or so in the past couple of months? Just watching what I eat and becoming more routine about exercise besides running.

mandy- sorry to hear about the recent stress. Happiness vibes coming to you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Amy- no idea on water skiing! I tried once and my arms hurt for a week. I wasn't even able to get up on the skis once! Good luck, though.

Nettie good luck on the interview!!

Ok, that's all I can remember, since I keep forgetting the multi quote thingy. I'll work on it. That and getting the pics of my running route out of my phone and into a post! Happy Monday!

ok. so coolrunning won't let me in, and it's not the same without you guys. wah.

i'm here. looks like here to stay...

summer's got me hopping, though. i'll be sporadic through these next couple months, probably.

i ran last night, with the puppy. we did a 5k in a hair over 30. felt good. am hoping to take kiddo for another 5k tonight.

catch me up - what did i miss?
