You are really just doing leg raises with the one leg while the other rests on the ball. So with the leg you are working, toe pointed straight up, do 15 reps, 3 sets.

HH I will try to find that stuff for you!!! It is basically just core stuff that is easy on the back. It still might be too intense for you but I will pass it along. I am a big old baby, I have had a referal for a spine specialist for about a year now and I refuse to go. I think surgery is my option at this point and i just don't want to go there!!! I have heard good and bad post surgery for disc replacements. Tough stuff!!!

Korbel - you actually whooped Sven...he did a 5:17. Rough one for everyone. He did the race in just over 4 last year.

And for those who wanted to know who Sven was

I imagine you as my spin instructor sometimes (you know, channeling the pain and all...) I also would LOVE to look like her. Yeah. Not gonna happen. I've come to terms with the fact that I enjoy eating and I am not gonna sacrifice my entire life to be that perfect (supposedly perfect. I would use quotation marks here, but you know...

Oh, my guess for baByboB: Oct 12 at 2:34 pm.

Baggs and Brandy glad you made it through. A student of mine said his dad ran it with a cousin and had to stop and walk a lot for her. Way to gut it out!

You too, Solar! Holy cow. I totally wimped on my 11 miler this weekend. Can't imagine doing 18 (even in the best conditions!!)

Ok, lunch is over!

Thanks Lori.

Good news:
Before the surgery: I couldn't walk for more than 50 feet without needing to stop. And those 50 feet were laborious, and incredibly painful. Some days, I couldn't even get out of bed.

After the surgery: I'm able to walk for at least a few hours now without more than a little pain following.

Bad news:
I waited too long for the surgery, and still have numbness and weakness in my left foot.

Overall, the surgery saved me, but it wasnt a disc replacement, it was just the discectomy which removes the herniated portion of the disc.

I appreciate race directors. I'm not knocking race directors, or volunteers, or others... BUT... this seems like a Race Promoter/Director cop out.

Race directors should plan for the number of runners they are going to have to have the proper amount of water. On an excessively hot or humid day, they should plan for runners to use more water.

Now in defense of the Chicago directors. This is a huge race. Making a last minute change based on forecast for heat was probably not easy. They probably did the best that they could. I certainly support their decision to pull people. I know it sucks.

Re: the Chicago and water situation...

There are mathematical models for damned near anything. I'd lay good money on the fact that a math professor at almost any half-decent college could create a model by which you could determine how much water was required per runner,... given distance, temp and humidity.

And while it may not be perfect, it would certainly allow more than 1/10 of the participants to finish...and less than 300+ to end up in the hospital.

Who was asking about predicted weather for Philly? Jill? Average temps for mid-November are typically in the low 50s, I believe. We've had picture perfect weather for the Philly Marathon the past two years... I fear we are due for a cold, windy, rainy day this year. Hopefully I'm wrong!!

Theia, I now regret getting that brownie recipe from you. They are toooooo good! And Scratch, I've got the rest of those Reese's PB Cups in the freezer if you want them. I rarely eat that junk!
