morning everyone,

Happy B-day Kris

Glad to hear today has started better for ya Brandy , hang in their on the race times...no question you will be laying an ass kicking on me in the future when your body starts to rebound from all of your tough miles.

P-Tom you are dead on, 1yo's and cake always funny.

Crane you and my DW would get along just fine. I remember in my first house walking in one night after a softball game only to find half my kitchen wallpaper down, a project I knew was happening, but did not know was happening that night.

KJ hang in there on the no drugs day...gotta go cold turkey eventually

big ups to winter and her run. most everyone here has been in a running slump, just have to fight through it!

Maureen how them tap lessons going? do you do some sort of recital at the end?

gosh, long weekend...shingled the roof at brothers house..it rained about half the time which sucked, but once it stopped we rolled. had a block party saturday night, met some people down the road I have never met before that was way cool.

on a running note, on saturday I looked ahead to october and my last two months of prepping for TC and realized, I hosed up my schedule a somehow I need to go long on Sunday (yesterday) and when I say long I mean 20-22 miles. no way around it, it has to happen.

quick summary of the run
1. Started way too fast, through 15 miles I am cruising at a 9:49 pace (my goal pace on this long run is 10:20-10:30). bad things are going to happen at some point in this run.
2. Mile 17 I stop to fill strap-on...see hot chick at drinking fountain in park, she admires my strap-on and asks where she can find one. I tell her I jokingly call it my strap on..she giggles. I realize minutes later as I am running the other way I still had not put my wedding ring back on after shingling Saturday, yikes probably thought I was single and hitting on her...ugh, not my intentional at all
3. Mile 18 the wheels fall off and my 9:49 pace drops to 10:01...mile 18 was in 11:44. I take a gel even though I am 3 miles from home.
4. Miles 19-21 are a fog...I am loopy.
5. Mile 22, the gel kicks in and I finish with a 9:39 mile. my pace ends at an even 10.

this pace is faster than my marathon pace in May (10:14), but still a minute off my goal pace in October...I have no freakin idea where I am finding that extra minute..breaking 4 hours seems like a pipe dream right now.

this was my first run with the strap-on and I am a believer...this thing is awesome. Thanks to Voo and BigG and anyone else who had one and suggested it, will never long run with out it again.

I am sure I have missed a zillion posts in the time it took to write my rambling non-sense...so a general hello to everyone I am missing.
Yes that was me. Hope you find some rest.

as for the tap class....I'm think gloves a top hat and cane. I'm a traditionalist. Sue me.

Ignore this post. I just need to write it out for some catharsis...

I'm feeling the passage of time particularly keenly today.

I was digging for something this morning before work, and came across an article that my parents gave me from my hometown newspaper...they do a 'what was happening X years ago in local HS sports' segment a couple times a month...

Anyway, they made mention of my HS record. I was 16 years old when I first broke it. I broke that record 16 years ago. Can I really have lived as much after that happened as I did before? Can I really have accomplished so little since I stopped competing?

I'm feeling my age. In more ways than just this, but this drove it home
[/catharsis]

Why does this make me giggle?

Hi Voo!!! How you doin'?

good job on the run Korbel! And yeah to Katholeenie for playing hookie. We like when you can play during the day. How are the doggies? HH- good for you for having a HS record- (and not the criminal kind). I always feel old when remembering HS stuff- doesn't help that the other day my mom told me I was "past my prime". Nice.

You get me for a little bit each day. I'm going to go work on my 500 projects. Might be back later.

So, what's your record? I have one too - set it 19 years ago.

Crap, now I'm feeling old too....

KJ - running tri's...I hardly think you're past your prime...

SP and discus. The article was about the SP, specifically.
What's yours?

The scarier thing is that if someone in the current freshman class doesn't break it...it'll get to 20 years old...
That's weird. I couldn't have been in HS 20 years ago...could I?...

On me like white on rice.

Haven't been home much the last couple weeks, so they're on me (and I mean that literally - sitting on my feet or lap, or smooshed against me somehow, or resting their head on me) constantly.

So nice to be loved.

Hey, nice bike pic!

I know it sounds goofy, but one of my favorite books on Alaska is The Milepost. It is published annually and is all about traveling in Alaska and Northwest Canada. It's more of a book that you'd read if you were going to be driving around Alaska than it is a book that you'd read if you were just taking a guided tour up there, but it shows some amazing scenery, and it does talk about some of the gorgeous places you can see.

Just a thought. Roo might know of some better books.

I will say this though, no matter how many books they read about Alaska, none of them will capture the beauty of that place. I don't think it's possible to do that in any book.
