Today is the first day of pre-planning! I'm up early so I can move from one classroom to another. They wouldn't let me come in last week to do it, so I figured I'd get a jump on it today, since we have a meeting that starts at 8 (we are normally supposed to be at work at 8!) till 12. I will be restless if I still have that big chore sitting over me. I even woke up early today!!

Anywho, I hope that Brandy and Melis slept very well last night!

Kini good job on getting that run in last night!

Duck I saw the weather for your area today and am totally jealous! Nice bike ride, too. It's funny you say that about the brakes... I remember doing things like putting my feet up on the handlebars, riding super fast down a hill that became a 90 degree turn at the bottom and not being scared at all!!! Sometimes right after it rained (thus, slick wet road!) I would never do that now!!

I posted this last night about a kid who died during a race, but I thought it might be worthy to post again. As LSU said last night, it leaves out the details about his condition pre-run, but still. Wow.

Well, have a great day folks!! Run run run!

Good morning, everyone!!

The fun continues here in Seattle. I have been working non-stop on trial prep since I got off the plane from Cabo. So here I am at 3:15 a.m..... At least I feel prepped for the trial!

Volunteered yesterday at a local 5K. Don't know if I've told you all that I am struggling with some achilles tendonitis, so I didn't run... So, if you can't run, volunteer!! The winner did it in 14:47!!! It was a very impressive thing to see....

Got caught up on the weekend thread. I chuckled at Voo's Jeep story, but really laughed at his intentionally Friday-ish description of the use of his strap-on. Lots of double-entendres.... I guess no one was in a Friday mood this weekend, because it went untouched. (the comment, not the strap-on). Funny, funny stuff.

I'm calling today to get an appt re; the tendon. It's not so bad that I can't run. It's been teh suck for close to a year. I just finally decided to be responsible, and try to get the thing fixed. Next, I need to pick a race to train for. Here I com, Active.com!

Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Morning 30s!

I soooo don't want to go to work today. At all. Bah. Boo hiss.

I spent the day yesterday swimming in my parents' pool with Penny. She's very funny...she loves the pool. She was one tired pooch last night, which was just perfect. I dropped off those tix with the guy on my way home from my folks' (in a Chili's parking lot) and also made a quick stop at Target to get a GC for a friend. Penny slept the whole way; it was cooler yesterday and I only left P in the car with the windows open for 5 mins...lest you think I'm a bad dog owner. She was also still wet, so she was fine.

I completely and utterly skipped all running last week. I just haven't got the time. I can try to run in the morning, instead of walking, but I really don't like it and it's not ideal since I can't run in the cemetery then either. I don't know what I'll do...I have to do something to get ready for Philly. I'm not running tonight...I have my tap lesson at 6 (!!!) and then rehearsal.

My neighbor Ann threw out a twin bed last week. I looked at it, almost took it for a friend, showed it to the friend, she decided she didn't want it, but I felt bad about it just getting tossed. I still left it thinking someone would take it...I don't think anyone did though. I mentioned it to Ann this morning and she said it was a Heywood Wakefield bed!!! I knew it was something but it was only a twin and I didn't need it...nuts. She said she's got the twin dressers for the set and I told her not to put them out, I'd sell them for her. What a shame.

I have to run...I'll be back later.

Hey all -

Brandy Hope things are looking a little brighter today.

Only got in 3 this AM - had 4.5 planned, thought I might get in 5, but I am on call and got interrupted twice. Bah. Our on call rotation switches on Mondays, so I can turn my Blackberry off when I go to sleep for the next 4 weeks.

That's all I got. Working with a vendor all day for the next couple of days, so I probably be off line a lot.

Good morning everyone!

Beautiful day here today! Rest day for me, though. Will definitely do something outdoorsy with with DH and DS this evening.

Took DS to a demolition derby on Saturday. Had a great time, but now have a crick in my neck from having him sit on my shoulders for 2 hours.

Just caught up on the weekend thread.

Brandy, hope this week is better and that you and Crane got a good night's sleep last night.

LSU, good luck with your exam. When are you writing it?

Welcome EQ!

Beth, have a great first day back to work. Hope the classroom move is east and that the meeting goes quickly.

Scratch, I hear ya! Unfortunately I was diagnosed with a heart rhythm condition last fall which required me to give up caffeine so the only coffee I can drink is decaf. Some (most) mornings, though, it's hard to resist the temptation of the real stuff! I think I'm still addicted!

GoV, good luck with the trial! Hope the other side is not as prepared as you! Hope your tendonitis problem clears up quickly!

That's it for me for now. Will check back later. Have a great day peeps!

Morning, all. Boo hoo, it's Monday again...

I probably won't have much time to post today, as I'll be performing a software upgrade to our CAD system today, and thus I'll be in the server room and away from my desk for most of the day. I hope you all can survive without me...

I had a 9.5 mile run on Saturday and a 9.5 mile bike ride yesterday. Not a whole helluva lot, but right on target for the first week of training. Today will be a 6-mile tempo run...

Beth, that is a terrible story. It goes to show that anything can happen when you least expect it...

Have a great day, everyone...

Good morning 30-somethings.

Not a lot going on with me today. I have a few errands I have to run, and I have to go grocery shopping. Other than that, not an awful lot going on.

No run today. Scheduled day off.

Enjoy your day folks.

Hey folks!!!! I think there is no way I will be able to catch up on the weekend stuff but I hope everyone is well!

We were in NC for the weekend and it was absoutely wonderful!!!! I got to see where DH went to college (it was about the size of my HIGH SCHOOL, heheheh), where he used to live and work. And we stayed the weekend in an amazingly beautiful multi-million dollar house on a lake. DH's old neighbors moved down to NC the same year he went down there for college and live in an unbelievable community! So it was their 60th wedding anniversary and they had a huge weekend long party. The weekend consisted of eat, boating, eating, jet skis, drinks, more food, a dinner party at the club, some golf for the men, more eating, and I will admit it, karaoke! DH and I were forced to sing, it wasn't pretty. But the weekend was amazing, all through dinner freinds and family would stand up for toasts and it was a great display of love and friendship. I am really glad I was a part of it! The only bad thing was my camera wasn't working so not shots of the place to share.

Back to reality now. I have to get my butt in gear and get some quality runs in again. I think my complete laziness over the weekend was good, my shoulder feels great, I am well rested and ready to start the week!

Better get to work though, I was out only 1 day and I had 53 emails waiting for me!!!

Not much to report from the weekend. Volunteered at the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies ride - lot of fun. Went for a 3 hour ride (motorcyle) yesterday afternoon. Worked in the yard and ran some.

4 east + strides today. I got off track re: 1/2 marathon training plan while on vacation. Back on track as of yesterday. Will also bike some tonight.

Happy (belated) b-day, bard!!!! Hope you enjoyed your weekend at the lake.

Know I'm missing a lot.

Happy Monday, All!

Seize the day mandaroo, even if it's Monday!

Thanks for the welcome.

I was actually born and raised in Massachusetts. In 1994, I went to graduate school for two years at UAF (for those not famaliar with it, that's the University of Alaska - Fairbanks). I also lived in Fairbanks during the summer of 2000 when I had a job at the University before it fell apart due to funding problems.

I live in Massachusetts, but I love Alaska. I'm looking forward to September...I'm making the trip for the Equinox Marathon this year. Marathon is on the 15th. Hoping to see some old friends, run the marathon, maybe even do a recovery run on the park road in Denali National Park.

How about you? Where were you in Alaska?

Morning, kids--

Got my Forerunner 201 in the mail on Friday, so I attempted to use it today. Totally overcast, crappy day out there in the 'burgh, though, so it had trouble keeping a satellite fix. I got my run it, but it was miserable (my glasses fogged up early and I couldn't see for the majority of the run). It wasn't pretty, but it's done.

Pacer--I've been really looking forward to running in Steelers colors at the end of the month, but I ran in my black and gold skirt this morning, and I had several wardrobe malfunctions. Not attractive. After the first 0.33, it was fine, so maybe I'll be ok on race day. I'll try it again before I decide for sure.

Hope everyone is feeling better today (even though it's Monday), and good run to everyone. Stay safe out there!

hi all...

Posting from my phone while waiting to deplane in Philly...en route to VA Beach. For work. Blech.

gov - good luck with the cases and take care of that Achilles!

Beth - is it really time to go back to school?

eq - welcome...

Melanie- I once had to go caffeine free too...sure there are alternatives, but I still missed it.

I did 4 with my bf yesterday, his longest run in over two years!! I really liked having him along, while he's still slow enough to stick with me..

Not sure what my running schedule will be this week, there's going to be a lot of travel and some early mornings. Moe, maybe you and I can do the 8k together!!

Have a great day all!

Ugh... Vacation is over... I'm at work... I guess I can post now. I think we've finally gotten settled back in the house after a quite a few days on the road - living out of a suitcase

I still need to post my Jay report. I remember the race well, better than most road races, and better than I remember most marathons... kind of odd considering it took almost 3 times as long... or maybe that's not odd, maybe that extra time allowed more to soak in.

Equinox - good to see you! I've seen you in some other threads back in CR land.

I managed to miss my run both yesterday and Saturday. Saturday due to being a hectic day, and Yesterday, I slept in, and then the bad thunderboomers came. I brought in stuff to run at lunch - it should only be 90 with high humidity then. Say a little prayer for my co-workers since we don't have showers here

That's all for now...

Morning, all!

Outta bed before the sunrise to get 12 miles done this morning. Took my strap-on and had a nice, east run. Paced it well, finished fast. Didn't rain, temp was ok. Felt really good...

Heading home from the shore to check my house, get mail, etc... I'm looking forward to lunch with some of my work friends tomorrow. Can't believe there less than a month before school starts here... (Beth, when do kids start with you?)

Gov - good luck with the achilles and the trial
mandaroo - luv your positive Monday attitude
Beaker - glad to hear you had a great trip!!! and that the shoulder is better.
Speaking of shoulders, Doc???
EQ, enjoy that day off

I'm in real need of a shower and coffee now... be back later!

Morning!

Brief injury update. Shoulder is better. Can now shift into 5th gear, have not cut myself shaving in a few days and generally get a full night's sleep.

However, yesterday I started getting vertigo. Came and went intermittently throughout the day. Back this AM. Spent some time talking to Ralph on the big white phone this morning. Sorry about that TMI.

Anyway. Good runs all....I recognize when life is putting the beat down on me and I am going to call it quits for a day or two and lay low......

Hello hello, everyone. I will try to get through the weekend thread, but I apologize in advance if I don't.

Feel better, Doc! Welcome back, Lori and Myron. Happy belated birthday, Kris!

GoV, good luck w/ the trial. And the Achilles! I managed to get Achilles tendonitis in grad school... from driving stick with the seat too far back. *sigh* Sucky injury.

I did my long run yesterday. I had no confidence I could do it and stalled as long as I could, trying to come up w/ excuses not to go. It might rain... Is it getting too dark?... I lost my Road ID... Maybe I can bike on the trainer instead... Finally forced myself out the door at 6:45 p.m. and completed a slow 7.3 miles in 1:08:39. I was thrilled! Total confidence booster for me. Now I feel as though a half marathon in Philly is not completely out of my reach. Isn't it silly how one decent long run can turn your mental state completely around?

Happy Monday, friends!

Hey, how are Gator Dad and Daddy Heat doing? Maybe there were updates over the weekend that I missed...

morning!

So, I did end up having that "snow cone" last night. Added some fresh strawberries....YUM. It did help. The work function was actually pretty good. Got some good networking done and chit chatted with people that I have talked to on the phone but never met. I got home about 9:10 and then heated up some leftovers for dinner and made that snow cone.

I did 7 miles this morning with 7 100M stides. The first 2 miles were teh suck - cramping in the feet that moved to the calves. Argh. After 2 and I started the strides, it worked itself out but I never got the speed I wanted. Oh well. 10 on tap for tomorrow. Must not hit snooze tomorrow. I am not a fan of eating my breakfast at my desk at work. Grrr.

Sleep - I did sleep better. Snow cone may have helped with that - along with all the productive yard work.

Melis - Said dog may not be cat friendly though! She does well with ours but if she sees another one she acts like it is a rabbit. Eek!
