I GOT MY BROOKS ORDER!!!!! I ordered two pairs of red Adrenalines, but said I'd take any color. They sent blue. I've been wearing blue shoes for the past 2+ seasons. I was so ready for change...

But, I LOVE my NiteLite jacket! And I thought my old jacket was bright. ANd, this one is much more fitting. I can't wait to get out there tomorrow and try out my new stuff!

Favorite workout... hmmm... progression run on the treadmill. Much (much) shorter distances than Tonya though! I just like the idea of the workout getting a harder and being able to handle the pace. Typically, I'll finish the last 400 to 800 increasing to 9.5 mph then 10 mpm or faster. Sometimes, I'll max out the treadmill. The other one I like is 5 to 6 miles at tempo pace.

My favorite workout is definitely something that involves 200's or 400's. Give me 4x400 or 8x200 any day. I love it.

Unfortunately it seems like those won't be coming back to me for a while since the back injury of a couple weeks ago. I'm just happy to trot along at any pace at this point.

Okay, my run at lunch was so great in a lot of ways, and yet not so great because of one thing: the 20 mph wind. UGGGGHHH. Kept me back from what I know could have been record-breaking paces the entire way.

Anyway, started out at 1:30 pm with 2 co-workers who asked me to join them on their run. After 1.60 miles there is a major street connection, and that's where they turned around. I kept going, and man were there some hills. Good training though for sure. I'm serious. I'm going to load my garmin data later so that you all can have a looksee.

Numbers were as follows:

.30 miles not recorded because Garmin was finding satellite.
Measured it on the return trip.
Mile 1 - 8:35 (with co-workers)
Mile 2 - 8:05
Mile 3 - 7:19
Mile 4 - 6:50
Mile 5 - 6:28
Mile 6 - 7:03
.38 - 7:38

Total for the run - 6.38 miles, 47:14, 7:25 average pace

So, I could have gone further, and DEFINITELY faster, but the damn wind was so strong I was afraid I wouldn't make it back in time. Plus those hills slowed me down just a little. I went from my office to the Interstate, then turned around and came back.

Once I got back I decided to go ahead and run my usual 8 miles, so I ran 2 miles on the treadmill. Seemed freaking easy as crap.

.68 miles @ 7:53 pace
.60 miles @ 7:30 pace
.72 miles @ 7:04 pace

Total for that run - 2.00 miles, 15:02, 7:31 pace

So, in all, I ran 8.38 miles today in 62:16, average pace 7:26, plus a little .30 miles in there that weren't timed. I'll upload that elevation data later...should be interesting.

I did my spin workout earlier, around lunchtime and have been in meetings ever since getting back. Finally I'm at my desk waiting for one of our program managers to call me who I need to talk with regarding a project...but she hasn't called me yet. All of which means I've now got some idle time to catch up on today's posts.

Not much noteworthy about the lunchtime workout. Just another ride to nowhere but with good music. The instructor and I had a laugh when Average White Band's "Pick Up the Pieces" came on...we were jamming to it but all the young'uns didn't even know who these guys were. And yeah, that one's on my iPod, too. I normally do weights and core after spin but didn't have time today...had to scurry back to work.

Tomorrow is my long run day since Saturday we will be traveling. 22 miles is the plan but I still need to map out a run. I've got an idea what it will be, just need to see if it will work. Since I'll be starting early it will be dark which means all roads for at least the first hour since I don't have a headlamp. Hopefully I'll have this workout all done and dusted by 9am so I can then have some breakfast, get cleaned up and work from home the rest of the day starting around 10.

Favorite workout -- I'd say I have two. One is the 8-mile tempo run, which can be all at one pace, or done as a progression run (gradual, thirds, DUSA, SFF). I do one of these every week; it really is the main staple of my training. The other is my 2-4-6-8 track workout...200, 400, 600, 800, 600, 400, 200, all run really fast. I don't get to do this workout that often, but when I do, it always feels good; I get to let the dogs out, yet not be too exhausted afterwards.

RichardC - have a great anniversary celebration tonight. Sounds like you really know how to do it right.

4bm - sounds great about the Brooks order. Is that Nite Lite jacket the neon green one? I've seen in the store many times but it is pricey. Still I could use one of them. Maybe I should get that code...

Phill - umm...you might want to stay away from Mexican at lunch.

Tonya - hope you enjoyed the run with your new running buddies. Don't worry about going a little slower with them. Besides I know you'll make it up on you're own (yes, I can say that out of personal experience because I do the same thing). And that's definitely cool that you have a network of off-street trails and such for running. Northern Virginia in general is pretty good with that, a lot of bike trails that link up.

Well, phone hasn't rung yet for my scheduled phone con...sigh...guess I should quit goofing off and leave another voice mail.

I am back from my 5 mile run. My left calve was sore for about the last mile. I think I need to stretch more as it felt so good when I started to stretch when I got home. Nice outside in the mid 50's I would guess. 5 miles in 42:19(8:27) and that is what I am suppose to be at. I decided that I would keep the pace right near what my training program has me down for. The run itself was easy, but my legs are sore.

Tonya-- I'm glad you had such a great run today.

Keep up the great running everyone and have a great afternoon.

Favorite work out 10 mile tempo runs at 30 seconds under marathon pace.

today I did a decent 3.75 miles.

Also, on Monday, I joined the "Masters" category of runners. I'll be "the kid" in the 40-44 age group in the 10 later this month.
That wouldn't be the 38 mile night fun run at KM100 ? Now if they added beer stops on course it could be the ultra equivelent to a hash event

Mutthound - Congrats on the old man category - Its always kindof fun to hit a new age group and have different people to compete against for awhile.

RichardC - I do not know what I will run tomorrow - let alone what race after next month. I think when I can run outside every day I will get the bug again, but right now running is all about fitness / socializing / health / weight loss - so .... Maybe

Wouldn't that mean the 10 miler was at full race effort? Yes, that would be a tempo run for most people, but the hardest possible run you could do and still call it LT run. A slower runner would have to slow a little slower than true LT pace (although still what I would call tempo) to get through 10 miles.

For me today:

2 miles easy, 5 mile tempo (5:41 pace), 1 mile easy.

I missed my morning run, so I'll try to squeeze in another 4-5 miles easy late tonight.

Hi all,

No run for me today. The ribs feel fine after yesterday's 5 miler, but the legs are actually a bit sore today.

I plan to run tomorrow. Probably do the same 5 mile loop. Or, if the weather looks decent, maybe I'll go run a few miles on the Merrimack River Trail.

HOLY WIND BURN BATMAN!!!!!

Well I rode to school, with light winds 15-20 mph...12 miles in 1:12:00, LOTS of hills, I am really going to have to re-evaluate my routes.

Then my Test got cancelled....

Then I rode home with Deadly winds easily 25-30 mph....all head winds of course...I decided to take an "Easier" route on the way home...well, I am a moron, it was 5Xhillier, and it was actually .66 miles farther...12.64 miles, in 1:33:20...I am exhausted...2167 calories burned...I am going to lay down...

Total = 24.64, 2:45:44, average of 8.9 mph...top speed of 29.6 mph...

Mile 4.6 - 5.2 went up a hill, from 926 ft up to 1394....

My favorite workout is any one that i finish without hurting myself...But I especially like long runs.

I am laying down...did I already say that. See you later.

As for my favorite workout? I am not sure. I know one of my least favorite is mile repeats. On the track I like 800 repeats. 3-4 mile tempo runs are fun as well as 8 mile progression run. I would have to agree with phill on any run that I don't get hurt on is a great run/workout.

Well, I guess it would be nice to race against new people, however, I only do about 3-4 races each year with two being marathons outside of my hometown and a 5k that isn't too serious. Last year I tried to be serious about it and after spliting 2 miles in 12:50, I did the last mile in 17:30 courtesy of a low grade pull of a hammy.

Now, I guess I don't have the excuse that "those kids are babies compared to me". oh well
