Larry - 60 is awesome...and even more impressive that you did 6 miles first.

Biah - 80+ is elite. Lance's highest recorded I believe was 82 or 83. Highest ever recoreded was a Skandinavian cross country skier and his was 94 I think. The closer to 100 the more oxygen your body is able to use when exercising.

smart choice, very smart choice

like I said - think that crazy ass race up the dune you did only you're on a treadmill so you gotta keep going or you'll get shot off the back

[exercise physiologist voice]the VO2 max, or graded exercise test can be conducted using either a treadmill (for runners) or a cycle ergometer (a fancy bike that is calibrated so you know how exactly what the resistance is). For both of them you are connected via face mask/mouthpiece to a machine that analyzes the air you exhale, thereby being able to know how much oxygen you consume.

The TM version you will start running at an easy pace, at a predetermined interval the speed and/or the incline will be increased. The goal is for the test to last approximately 8-12 minutes. The goal of the test is for the subject to run to volitional failure - until you can't physically run another step.[/exercise physiologist voice]

they aren't the most fun thing ever. costs can vary, but the route to go is to get one for free - all you need to do is find a college/university near you and contact the exercisy physiology department and see if you qualify for any studies that they have going on currently - how I was able to all of the times I've undergone the procedure.

Seriously Larry, the hardest thing will be when they start cranking the incline up, and the test shouldn't last longer than about 10 minutes...and only the last minute or two will really hurt.

It won't be any worse than that freakin' uphill beach race you did! Just hope they have one of the new style masks that fit over your mouth and nose - the old style mouthpiece sucked.

Larry - what time is the VO2 max test?

6 great miles at lunch...usually don't run during the middle of the day but I had about 6 hours to kill at work today between the end of baseball practice and the basketball game tonight.

What I wasn't prepared for was the hills! And where I work is near where T and I are looking for a house so I'd better get used to this!

LOL - in the immortal words of Mickey "women weaken the legs, Rock" - can't have that getting in the way of the BQ

Excellent Colleen, and here's hoping it doesn't interfere

Colleen, a running group for the kids or for adults? either one sounds great

Larry - having the VO2 measured huh? Good luck with that...I've done that 4-5 times over the years as a subject in studies and each time it just reinforces how much it hurts. Can't wait to hear what your number is!

QOD - Nike Pegasus. Usually good for 450-500 miles.

Weather - uh, went to bed last night and it was 52F, left for work it was 35F, so we're back to what January is supposed to be like! Planning on running during a big break in my schedule today - here at work for baseball practice and I have a women's hoops game tonight at 7:30 so I'm sure I should be able to get my run in.
