Yup, I'm here. I didn't get my run in yesterday, but I did lift for a while at the gym. At least that's something. Today I'm planning on running with my neighbor. Probably won't be far, but it's usually quite fast with him. My guess is we'll do 4-5 miles at better than a 8:00 pace. We'll see how long I can hang with him...

Have a great day, folks...

Morning Luvs!
Would like to get in a couple today after work. I'll take my clothes, but right now, it looks like something out of Wizard of Oz out there.... cue the flying monkeys.
If not...its pilates and yoga. I should do them whether I run or not....

I need to find some place where I could safely attempt getting into a handstand. Right now, I've got a decent wall section where I let my feet balance against the wall, but I worry that if I tried to handstand there and tilted I wouldn't have a good way to roll safely down without possibly injuring myself.

I've got to be getting close to being able to do one. I can do the feet against wall handstand, lift my left hand and hold with just my right arm for a good 10 seconds now, and about 5 seconds with just the left arm holding me up.

Good Morning,

I have 14 planned, but might be a little tight on time this morning; I think it'll work out. If not, I'll just swap today and tomorrow around.

Because, I'm now having issues with my trainers, here's a Question of the Day: What shoes do you currently wear and how much mileage can you get out of them?

I was a real Kayano girl for a few years, then switched to Trances this year and thought they were great, I was getting more miles out of them. Now, I think I need a little less cushioning (sudden change after getting racers-I prefer the Fast Twitches over my Trances and the Trances hurt me knee-a lot, weird) and I am going to give the Adrenalines a try. I hope these work out because they are a heck of a lot cheaper than the Trances and I like to change out every 300 miles or so. That's been coming up quickly these days.

QOD - I don't think I've found "my" shoe yet.

Currently I'm rotating between a pair of Mizuno Wave Nirvana's and a pair of Brooks Trance. The Trance are on the way out so last weekend I picked up a pair of ASICS Kayano XIV. I'm still in the I need to try out every shoe on the market until I find the right one.

I get between 300-400 miles on my shoes.

Hey all:

Easy 6.5 last night, 8:10 pace. Tonight, getting back together with my running store group. One of New Year's Resolutions is to run these runs slower, so I'll be doing this one EZ.

QOD: Mizuno Wave Rider. Just a clean, basic neutral show. I just got my first pair of the 11s and I like them a lot. I can get up to 600 miles or so.

QOD: Mizuno Wave Riders here too. I weigh more than Tom... was getting about 350-375 miles out of my WR9s, but I've got a pair of WR10s with 400 that are still going strong. And I have a couple more WR10s waiting in the wings, so it might be a while before I get any WR11s.

Morning kiddies -

2 miles easy, then 5 x 5 minutes @ tempo pace (1 minute recovery), then an hour easy. 10.25 total. Need caffeine.

QOD - NB 767 ST, I get about 400 miles out of them (current pair is at 182. One thing that sucks about ramping up mileage is that you burn through shoes much faster.)

Larry - having the VO2 measured huh? Good luck with that...I've done that 4-5 times over the years as a subject in studies and each time it just reinforces how much it hurts. Can't wait to hear what your number is!

QOD - Nike Pegasus. Usually good for 450-500 miles.

Weather - uh, went to bed last night and it was 52F, left for work it was 35F, so we're back to what January is supposed to be like! Planning on running during a big break in my schedule today - here at work for baseball practice and I have a women's hoops game tonight at 7:30 so I'm sure I should be able to get my run in.

I liked this set of exercises I did twice before work.

4 weighted chin ups, +37.4 lbs
10 weighted push ups, +37.4 lbs
Take backpack off.
Place hands in pull up position, raise legs into L-seat, 3 L-seat pull ups.
Drop, use wall to balance my feet for handstand, lift left hand, hold up with only right arm as long as possible.
Back to bar, hands in chin up position, raise legs into L-seat, 3 L-seat chin ups.
Drop, wall balanced handstand, lift right hand and hold with left arm as long as possible.

Those L-seat chins and pulls are hard as heck on the abs right now.

I am not going to be able to run today. However, I signed up for a free 5 week Iron Yoga series here at work, starts this evening. Here is the description:

Created by Ironman triathlete Anthony Carillo, Iron Yoga® blends strength-training with Yoga. Improve lean muscle mass, flexibility, and range of motion, while developing proper breathing techniques, and sharpening mental focus skills. No prior experience in weights or yoga is necessary.

I have to bring hand weights, so I brought my 2-lb ones since I haven't really been doing any weights. It should be interesting, because I've also never done yoga of any kind before. This is kind of my trial run, and if I like it, I will spring for an ongoing yoga class somewhere.

Anyway, I'd run afterwards, but I have to head up to my running store for our training group kick-off. In addition to being a social hour, I fill out forms with info on my recent training, race experience, goals for this go-around, preferred days, etc. Then by Saturday, I'll have my personalized plan from now through Madision.

QOD- Brooks Addiction. I'm on my 3rd pair. I might try a pair of Saucony next time, that fit the same as the Addiction but were cushier. I almost got them in fall but it was too close to Philly. I can get about 315-320 out of mine before I have to at least retire them from long runs.
