Thirsty Thursday Fun 9-9-10

Well, I'm back. I had three weeks of vacation (yes, three weeks - not sure how I managed that<img alt="" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/smile.gif" style="width:16px;height:16px;" title="">) and I've spent most of this week trying to catch-up here at the office. I know I've missed a lot here, but most importantly a big congratulations to Missy on the birth of Allie - it's good to see that things are going so well. Did I miss any earth-shattering news?
 
As for me:
 
I spent a few weeks in the Caribbean sun;
Went to Yankee Stadium for a game on the day that Earl was supposed to be impacting NYC (it didn't);
Attended my BIL's bachelor party;
I was officially appointed to my town's Board of Education;
I've been running from time-to-time but not nearly enough to offset the enormous amount of food I ate on the cruise ship - I'm up to about 210 pounds these days; and
DW broke her ankle a few days ago - she's been off of her feet and is going in for surgery tomorrow, so I've become a part-time chef, butler, chauffeur, etc. in addition to my day job.
 
Time to get back to it.

I don't have a donuts, but I do have a small buffet of wedding leftovers set up in my office: white chocolate cake, sweet rice cakes, chocolate covered pecans, honeydew, turkey deli spirals and club deli spirals. Come on over before the DBAs hear about it...they have a reputation here

random: i enjoy giving presents.
 
so my thank-my-lucky-stars moment: i spilled an entire glass of water over my netbook last friday and essentially, watched it fry in front of my eyes. i unplugged the power, took out the battery, wiped off as much water as i could, and then set it over the AC vent to dry out. reading online, i figured the chance of my netbook being ok was about 5% but i held out hope.. turned it on last night after drying it out for a few days, and its FINE!!!!!!! yipppeee!!!
(now i just need to hurry up and back up all my files which DH has been harping on me to do for like, ever).

Today I do not love baby feet. Mainly because they are alternating between playing kickball with my bladder and squishing up my lungs. Last time around I didn't feel this uncomfortable till about 8 months, heaven help me if I have to deal with 12ish more weeks of this!!

I didn't, mostly because I didn't know anything. My parents underestimated what kind of shape Mom was going to be in after surgery. It ended up being pretty major, basically a transplant, because they had to graft cadaver parts because her ligament had shrunk so much. Also, her bones are too soft or not dense enough or something for them to have anchored the grafted ligament to screws, so they had to get creative. [shudder] No idea what that means & didn't ask. She doesn't have the upper body strength to use a walker, and somehow doesn't have the confidence or motivation (!!?!) to try new methods of motility. She isn't eating much (she's had 2 pieces of toast and a bowl of cereal since Monday) probably because of the pain meds she is on (percoset? or vicodin? not sure). 
 
She's in a cast for 2 weeks, then gets the stitches out, then re-cast for 10 weeks, and then the doc wants to put some sort of prosthetic (?) thing on Mom's foot/ankle to keep her ankle in position for 6 months. That puts recovery into June next year.
 
They're struggling. And my dad is overwhelmed & being a jerk* about the whole thing, which is making this even more difficult. (Of course they won't accept any help though. <img alt="" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/roll_eyes.gif" title=""> ) He called while Kristy was here and I ended up having a bit of a melt down on her. Gaaaaa.
 
I'm hoping they'll figure out some sort of routine or something and it will get easier for them.
 
*My family was fully functional until the last 2 years, so I have no skills to deal with parental asshattery. <img alt="" src="http://files.kickrunners.com/smilies/huh.gif" title="">
