Congrats on the PR, millbot, guess you weren't hurtin as bad as you thought.

Sal- 22K @ 8:45-9:00 pace, hardly in need of a cane & rocking chair. From time to time I'll be telling the kid that works for me some story about things we were doin in the 70's or so and I get the old double take "Dood, I wasn't even born until 1982." Oh yeah......my bad

Nice picture and even nicer run lab..... I've got some relatives in Yachats, they're like 4th cousins 3 times removed or something like that. I think I've seen them last around 1965. Never had a pair of topsiders, I wear sandals, tevas, & birkenstocks........

Don't work too hard, RTB.... we don't get that much snow here and fortunately I can "shovel" the driveway by driving the work truck up and down it several times. Whatever you do, don't injure the camera finger.

I'm getting quite despondent about not running. I think it's because the sun is out and it's dam near short pants weather here. I'm amusing myself now by looking at the satellite photos of my Garmin runs longinly (and I've only had the Garmin for 3 months and been injured most of them), sort of reliving Johnny's glory days...................sigh. Oh well, tonight we're seeing the Robben Ford Band at the Rogue Theater. Some good shows there in the next 2 months.

Just tryin that hyperlink thingie to see if it works.

Good runs to all. If I don't name you by name I've still read the post and it registered. I'm just unable to do or concentrate on more than a couple of things at any one time.

edited to point out the non running shoe differences twixt myself and the duck.

When did Labduck get a yacht?

9 @ 8:35, moving my "L"R up a day in anticipation of much colder and windier conditions tomorrow. Longest run in (flip, flip, flip...) six months. I'm almost ready to declare the AT fit for use and get to work on the much simpler problem of getting back into shape.

After my long run last Saturday, I came down with some sort of cold/flu. So no runs for the whole week. This is the first time I've had something that made my joints hurt.

My run today, even though it's supposed to be long, was only 4 miles. Back to square one I guess.

This winter does seem a little worse on my old bones - I sure wish spring would hurry up. Tomorrow supposed to be really cold.

On a positive note - a Trader Joe's opened up near me. Yes !!

Afternoon all,

I had a great race this morning. A local 5 mile run put on by the Edmond Running Club. The Frigid Five-Miler, the weather conditions were perfect (45 and no wind), so a bit of a misnomer this year. It was a fun course with rolling hills. Previous PR at 5 miles 40:40, new PR at 5 miles 38:16 (Garmin time, official results not posted yet).

Paul

Nice runs all and great stories.

Sorry your 15k went so badly, Peg. But hey, even a bad run is better than not at all, right?

Sally..... that made me laugh! We have the same sort of conversations with the "kids" in the spin class at work when the 70's or 80's music comes on. And what's with calling everyone, male or female, "dude" these days? My jaw dropped when one of the guys in our marketing department called me that. Sorry, I'm over 50, female and just don't respond to "dude"! And I thought I was getting old when I started to get bent out of shape over the DH and I being referred to in most restaurants as "you guys" and everything being "awesome!".

A rest day for me.... so went out shopping instead... found a nice pair of Adidas short tights on sale at Winners, with flashy orange trim. It's nasty and snowing again... so it's retail therapy time!

I had a great 60 minute yoga class and a mile walk. What a nice way to start the day!

I had fun this morning with a new yoga DVD: Yoga Shakti with Shiva Rea.

It was really great! More meditative than some of my other DVDs, but the flow was really quite good. I did one of the pre-made series, but there is a whole "yoga matrix" on this DVD by which you can create your own practice. I may have some fun diving into that someday!

Then I attended the New England Dermatological Society meeting this morning, took my DS to the toy store, and then visited with my sister and her young son for a while.

After I got home, my energy was ebbing, and I had to force myself to get into my running gear. The snow was coming, and I wanted to get in one last non-sloppy run. I got in 7.08 miles in 59:33. Average pace was 8:24, but the middle 5 miles were at MP. They felt hard. We'll see how my long run goes tomorrow after today's exertions.

14 miles of running with Ms. iPod and Mr. Garmin. My only friends. Music was great but a little too much cowbell.

Pink, you are on the right road, it will feel better. I think the secret to my successful recovery and return to running (after the first few failures) was to start and stay slow for a few runs, easing back into the old pace. In fact, I'm not quite to the old pace but each run feels better.

Mustang Sally, you are Erma Bombeck all over again. I love it!

The fourteen miles were good but, afterwards... I got extremely fatigued and it took a long while to recover. I'm better now, I think the Luna Recovery Smoothie helped. That, and the strawberry mango yogurt. Well, and the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Oh, and the water and the cup of decaf... Not to mention the big salad and one slice of pizza.

Robin, I have that same video, but have yet to open the package and even watch it! Maybe now that you've posted mention of it, I'll be inspired to finally try it out.

I miss running. Hip and leg still aren't quite right, and every time I try to stretch that hamstring I get the wrong sort of pain instead (as if there's a right sort of pain??).

Anyway, it's good to be home, even though we're going away again next week, barely in time to get all the laundry done. This time it's with the family, for our annual Presidents' Week tropical getaway. As much as the temps being in the mid-70s this past week was a nice change from the 30s and 40s of the dull and drab winter, I'm really looking forward to daily highs in the 90s. If nothing else, my tight muscles will just MELT in all that deliciously sunny heat!

Good runs, everyone. Good racing, Paul! While you were doing that, I was taking DD to school, where she caught the bus to choir contest in your town. We found out this afternoon she got a I on her solo! She's very excited about that and because the emsemble did too.

This afternoon, when my family obligations were temporarily suspended, I went to the park and ran 5.21 mi. nice and easy @10:13. It was sunny and 61 degrees, so the purpose was to get used to those conditions for next weekend's marathon in AZ. I'll do the same thing tomorrow. Of course the sweat didn't evaporate off me here like it does there.

Tell me you haven't missed the "More Cowbell" mix on iTunes...

pegruns, you were on a low-carb diet and tried to run a race?? And beer didn't taste good?

It is time for an intervention.

(oh, and another 6 miles on the bike at 7.5 mph -- alongside DS, who was rollerblading. He picked a newt up off the bike path and placed it by a nearby creek. Then on the way home he used his own $$ to buy Guitar Hero III for PS2....trivia, yes, but it was a nice afternoon!)

OK, this first....(((despondent Johnny)))...but am I evil to think "now I can catch up with him!" ??

Enjoy the show Johnny! I'm anxious to hear your review.

Mill - congrats on the PR!!

Lab - whoo hoo! Perspiration!

You all did some impressive runs, cross training, paint curls, etc.

My run was good. I did 12.5 miles in 2:10. When I run a longer distance like this by myself, I find I take too many walk breaks. None of them are very long, but I should have been able to do that 12.5 miles in 2 hrs. But it was a good run and much of it was spent in the sun, so that does wonders for the mental health. My IT band started bothering me just a tick around mile 5, but I changed my stride a little and started thinking of other things and never felt it again.

Have a good evening all!

Hee hee hee. Hemerocallus and Mustang Sally... My creative little sister has mixed me a CD with all cowbell songs and the above gentleman saying things like, "Never Question Bruce Dickinson" and "Sounds great but needs more cowbell"

Anyhoo, some of the songs are great but, after an hour or so... nobody, not even Bruce Dickinson, needs that much cowbell...

Thanks for the link MS.
p.s. I just checked it out and, surprisingly, I don't have a lot of those... there must be an endless supply of cowbell songs to put in a mix.
