The only race offered was the 5k.. I think I need a little more speed work if I want to do better with that event. I am kind-of just trying to get more miles in as I have my 1st 1/2 planned. I am actually falling a little behind in the schedule as of last week.

Mercury: I am glad you run went alright. I hope your visit goes well.

Truxx, DF7: Sounds like you both had fun in the race on Sunday. Good stuff.

KZ: Thanks for making the race happen. I'm looking forward to working with you. I'm thinking about covering the first km in 4 min and seeing how things go from that point. Note. there's a hill right at the beginning so the conservative pacing will pay off for us. Are we still meeting at 9:30am this Sunday in the McD parking lot beside Cote Vertu metro station?

Have a good one.

"Theme: co-operation. Time: better than either of us can do alone" , sounds like an ultra to me . . .. maybe a relay is it legal?

Morning all. Very wet & mushy out there but not cold. Be prepared for wet feet.

Doctor visit yesterday was uneventful. He acknowledged that the orthotics he made were useless and in fact worsened the injury to the foot, so now wants an MRI. If the neuroma shows up it's surgery as early as next week. Anyone know where I can get a cheap MRI, fast? (remember I'm on teacher pension: good for bills & food but not much else!)

In the mean time, I am training my feet - much like you would to graduate to barefoot running - to adjust to orthotics free running. I am now convinced they were major contributors to the problem. I have had 2 straight pain & burn free days.

I was completed exhausted following Tuesday's 4x7min workout on the treadmill. As a result, yesterday's workout was reduced to a 30 minute recovery run. I ran an hour at marathon pace on the treadmill this morning (4:36/km) without too much difficulty. I'm looking forward to keeping up with KZ this Sunday at the 5km in Ste Therese.

Have a good one.

Not sure how this weekend will go, but it will be fun running with you TB!

My week has been terrible so far: Monday 10K jog, Tuesday too tired (1 hour of sleep), Wednesday hockey = beer + 1 monster poutine.

No running for me today. I might try some harder running tomorrow if my legs are into it.

The Canadians have to lose, for the sake of my running.

I just got in from another successful 45 minute run into a strong wind along the lake.

Here is a conversation I had on Facebook, with my sister in Carleton Place, Ont. this morning!

I developed the same neuroma in the same place, but it was caused by the orthotics I need for plantar fascititis on the other foot. The solution for me was to toss the unneeded orthotic. Problem solved. The pain vanished. I've been running a bit every second day. Not as far as you I'm sure but for 30 minutes or so. I don't have a problem now that I'm only using one orthotic, but I still think the problem might be resolved by wearing shoes with lower heels, thereby allowing for a slight raise caused by an orthotic. I think a lot of the runners are too high in the heel area. I was reading in one of the magazines about the new style of runners which are comparable to running barefoot, and maybe they're the way to go with orthotics.

Interesting. I can conclude from all of this that downward pressure on the forefoot makes things considerably worse....as you mentioned, a heel lift being a major contributing factor. Some of my own suspicions are confirmed then. How did you rid yourself of the neuroma or is it still there but manageable? I remember running Boston without orthotics 2 years ago without orthotics and both feet burned so bad I didn't think I could continue. I think that was just a case of not allowing my feet time to get used to the change. I'll never forget the burning experienced by both feet in that race. What leads me to think it was the orthotics in that case was the fact that my left foot never bothered me but it did that time and that was the sudden loss of heel lift.

Be careful of the low profile barefoot style shoes they could lead to narly trail running, growing you hair long and taking puffs of what Grommy is smoking. I hear that stuff helps with the pain.

OH boy I can't wait to see what will come of the TB-KZ teamwork... only good things, only good things!!!!

Merc: I've always been weary of orthotics, unless you have a serious congenital issue. Correcting the problem at the source is always more productive in the long term.... Even if it means taking some time of to start back at snail pace.

So I escaped the snow storm.... I opted for a treadmill run while the white stuff was falling. Only 3 more lousy days in the gym and I'm back in the pool. Can't wait!!!

Who else is heading to ste-therese this weekend? I will pray for no snow...

St. Therese is on May 2nd is it not? I may make my debut there but it will be a 10K. Did hill repeats yesterday in the front yard of Villa Maria Girls school and it went surprisingly well. The achilles is a bit stiff but that's to be expected since it's my first hill workout for quite a while and I'm not using orthotics any more which puts a lot of stress on the achilles tendon.

Today I'll cross train by going onto the bike! Have a great one everybody.

Ste-Therese this morning with TB.

TB had a great run and got a PB at 19:09, despite the hill and humidity.

I had a tough race and barely got under 20 at 19:58.

My contribution to TB's great run was to make sure he ran the first 2Ks conservatively. From 2K onwards, it was all TB, and he looked good widening the gap between us!

For my part, I was not ready for the intensity of a 5K and didn't have it in me to endure the suffering, which I usually handle pretty well. Ah well... something to work on.

Thanks to KZ for making the 5km race happen today. Following the road trip there (wild left turn We arrived with several minutes to spare. It was warm and slightly humid. I decided against running strides or an extended long run because I did not warm to start off too fast (which I normally do) on the long hill we faced from the start.

I ran the first km according to plan (4:01) and from that point, I felt under control was able to run easy. My breathing and effort were not laboured and I was able to focus on running at a steady pace following 2km. KZ and I parted ways at the 3km and I decided to see what was left in the tank. Knowing that there was a downhill segment made the decision to go hard that much easier.

All in all, it turned out to be a good race for me. The fruit plate at the end of the race was a wonderful reward. This result is encouraging as I enter the most demanding phase of marathon training. Only 28 days to go.

TB+KZ: I'm looking forward to a summer of racing together!!

Way to go everyone who went out there and ran or raced, it was a sauna out there! Don't forget the sunscreen...
