Drive to Louisville was looong ... 5.5 hours to Toronto from Montreal (so good to see my mom before the race!) and another 11.5 from Toronto to Louisville, with breaks of course! Over 1500 km total on the road. All good on the driving side.

But yesterday ...

Soon after I arrived in Toronto, I met up with my roadie friend Chris for a short training ride. We got hit by a mini-van only 1.14km into our ride. Can you believe that?

The bad driver decided to turn suddenly into a plaza driveway. Chris was luckily able to swerve into the driveway, receiving only a tap on his left arm, but I couldn't swerve more because of the curb and my bike smashed into right her. I was able to break my fall though with my face , right into the back of her van (I was drafting). I felt my head thrown forward and neck whip back hard ... and my leg cracked my aerobar arm rest. Crap.

I've got a few bruises that will take a few days to work out to the surface of my skin, small cuts, and soreness in many places (neck and right shoulder and torso side mainly) but I'm okay. Hurt my right wrist too. Guess I used the right side of my body to try to brace the impact into her van. Swelling is almost all gone ... arnica works wonder.

Was in shock and angry afterwards ... The driver hadn't even looked even though she had just passed us. Luckily we weren't at full speed yet as we had just accelerated out from an intersection not long before. If we had been at the 32km/h+ that Chris had been pushing, I would not be here in Louisville, but in a hospital.

Honestly though, I'm worried most about my neck and shoulders as I am STILL in physio for my whiplash from my car accident early 2006 (pretty bad damage).

Have to get my bike fixed tomorrow and check the wheel alignment, etc. Good thing my bike is an old rugged steel frame. Takes a beating.

I don't even remember the lady apologizing or even admitting she didn't look. At least was calm and polite and didn't scream at us for "hitting her!"

Alright, I'm off to beddy-bye now ... it's been a long day of driving today ...

that's awful! glad you are ok though... hope the bike is fine. rest up!

Aw damn. That's not what you needed during taper! (Or anytime for that matter.) The neck and shoulder's a tough spot. Two days after is usually the worst, so see how you feel tomorrow and Saturday.

Man, I'm amazed you're still able to move after sitting in a car for that long after being in an accident.

Very gentle hugs coming your way.

Sally! I hope as you wake up today you'll feel ok! Go see the ART people to work lightly LIGHTLY on you!

Dadgum! That sucks. But, look at it this way, this pretty much took care of all the bad luck you could have during your trip. You're gonna have smooth sailing during the IM. Go get 'em!

Really though, I am glad you're OK.
