If your talking about Run for the Ranch, I did that "Marathon" once and wouldn't want it to be my first experience. Crossing help left when it got dark. Running after dark on the evening celebrated by drunken driving is not safe, smart, or fun. I saw the SPD do two stops, one complete with over the hood handcuffing. This was after the carload of teenagers crowded us on the course just to flip us off. The buffet was trashed by the shorter racers and they ran out of finisher medals. It may be for a good cause but I can think of better ways to spend New Years Eve and I would pick a better course for my first Marathon.

I know I'm the Mod here as well, but anyone mind if, a little late, I join the gang here - Running Two Marathons in the fall, Dublin, my home one, pacing a pal to a 4:20 (I hope), and then 4 weeks afterwards, my goal race - Philadelphia! -

I need the motivation a group can bring - So please let me play

Cool, you'll be in Philly too, Liam. Guess I'll be seeing you there.

Yep, we'll be in town for the weekend, and down the road for Thanksgiving again - Probably getting in on the Friday afternoon, and staying till Monday before heading to Downingtown.

As for training, I have had a little break after Cincinatti and a vacation, followed by a 20Km race in Belgium at the end of May - But June has been slow - Starting to pick up my plan starting this week. Ran 5 mils on Monday, on hills, as part of a Hash, and tonight ran a 5K Treadmill run in 25:56, feeling OK.

Have a 5 Mile race a week on Saturdaym which will show me how much I need to do in the short term as I build up for Oct/November.

Looking forward to seeing a few friendly faces in Philly again

And Jill - I'll be there too - Although I won't be running 26 miles - May do the 8k again, although a certain person is trying to get me trained up for the Half Marathon

I try and walk a few miles every night, but June had 3 recovery days from the 24 hour race in which I walked 28 miles in 3 days. I will typically walk 60-75 miles a month - Just to wind down before bedtime.

5 mile race in Pittsville, WI (Alex Home town) Last year I was in decent (Not great shape) and stalked Alex for 4 miles and then took it to the house in a 5:35 mile to post the victory.

This year I am not in the same shape - I have built a great base and this race will mark the start of adding serious speed work. I am likely 12-15 seconds per mile slower ... but the weather is to be near perfect for 7:00pm July 3rd - Low 70s and under 50% humidity.

Hope that answers what you wanted to know.

Yeah, that's the one. I did a second half marathon in March just to get the first one out of my memory . It's on 12/28 so no worries of NYE partiers. I think what I'm going to shoot for at the moment is to see how PT goes and how fast I can beat this, and start training for the November marathon. If training doesn't go well then I'll do the half in November instead of the marathon and look for another race. I know there is one in Mountain Home, Arkansas later in November but beyond that I haven't looked yet.

I go to Pittsville because
#1) Good KR friend Alex live there
#2) The July 3rd - 5 mile race there is well run
#3) The course is really fast

If it were not for #1, 2-3 would not matter - It will be a long day today.

Hi cailin! I knew you'd be there too My husband is running the 8k again as well.

I have found two more marathons that are within a day's drive in November/December. One is in Mountain Home, Arkansas on 11/15 and the other is the St. Jude's Research Hospital marathon in Memphis on December 6. A 2.5 hour drive and a 5 hour drive. So I am excited that all is not lost if I can't get into training as fast as I would need to in order to do the Bass Pro race on Nov. 2. DH is not thrilled to go as far as Memphis but he'll get over it. Funny thing is that the Mountain Home race is small enough I might actually place in my AG.
