Hi all,
Sorry for starting this late, my running has been sidetracked and I pretty much forgot about it yesterday.

I ran twice last week, Tuesday a very slow 3.5 miles and I managed 6 yesterday. The backside is feeling better but not much and this is the start of week 4 so I went to the doc today. She diagnosed me with piriformis syndrome, which is what I suspected after reading up on it, and my first PT appointment is tomorrow. I have never been to PT so I don't really know what to expect and whether or not I will be able to run at all or for how long I will be out. The 6 on Saturday was not bad--it took about 2 miles for the backside to warm up and then it was okay, and it was a much faster run than earlier in the week--10mm versus 12 mm. So I thought that was a good sign but still, 3 weeks plus is way too long to just be a sore muscle issue.

Hope all is going well and have a great 4th of July week!

Lisa

The physical therapist said I have a severe hamstring strain and 4-6 weeks is typical for recovery. I am in week 4 and she said at least 2 more weeks of no running or weights. I can do the exercise bike but since I cannot sit for very long without pain I don't expect that to happen. As far as a marathon in November my coach said we'll see how it goes with the recovery and go from there. There is another local race at the end of December so it may not be a total loss, just a setback although it will take a lot more mental toughness to do that December race--it is eight 5K loops plus an initial piece for the marathon. I did the half last year and wasn't thrilled with that. I haven't looked outside of local yet.

Yeah, that's the one. I did a second half marathon in March just to get the first one out of my memory . It's on 12/28 so no worries of NYE partiers. I think what I'm going to shoot for at the moment is to see how PT goes and how fast I can beat this, and start training for the November marathon. If training doesn't go well then I'll do the half in November instead of the marathon and look for another race. I know there is one in Mountain Home, Arkansas later in November but beyond that I haven't looked yet.

I have found two more marathons that are within a day's drive in November/December. One is in Mountain Home, Arkansas on 11/15 and the other is the St. Jude's Research Hospital marathon in Memphis on December 6. A 2.5 hour drive and a 5 hour drive. So I am excited that all is not lost if I can't get into training as fast as I would need to in order to do the Bass Pro race on Nov. 2. DH is not thrilled to go as far as Memphis but he'll get over it. Funny thing is that the Mountain Home race is small enough I might actually place in my AG.
