Hi KS and Rip!
I've been running, though not as much as this summer as I was in the Spring. With both boys home, I spent more time with them, including staying up later, and that made getting up earlier pretty hard, so I just decided to have a fun summer and do just enough running to keep me from having to start all over.
Jay is 22, and will graduate from Sam Houston State University in December. Ryan is 19, and is playing baseball for Tyler Junior College. He redshirted his freshman year, so this year is the do-or-die. Either he makes the team as a starter, and works to find a D1 school team to transfer to, or he'll stay on the team to support them this year, and then transfer to A&M to continue his studies. Having them both home was fun, especially watching the Olympics this summer - loved the women's beach volleyball, all the swiming, everything Usain Bolt did, the women's gymnastics, and I also managed to see the women's triathlon finish which made me all verklempt! Somehow I missed men's gymnmastics and synchronized swimming entirely, and I like both of those too.
I had a couple of 1st place AGs this spring, and I'm currently in a Nike Running Club training program, a new app from them. I've used the Nike+ app for years, and just switched to the smartphone version a few weeks ago. Then Nike+ changed to Nike Running Club, and it all went to ****, which usually happens with new apps in my experience. I went out to do a 5 x 400 workout, and there was no warmup - just go fast at the start, and no voice coach to tell me when I had run 400 meters or when the 45-second recovery between intervals was up. Same thing later in the week for the 7 x 400 workout. I managed some sort of workout, but it wasn't what I'd hoped for. I've left feedback, and am planning to quit this plan and start over, hoping it will work out this time.
Today was a 3.5-mile, supposedly at a 10:00 pace, but it was 10:33 instead. Clear blue skies, but not too hot here in Houston, even though I started at nearly 9:00am. But it was supposed to be a recovery run, and that's what I did. The plan also had me do a Nike Training Club workout, a HIIT type thing, that really kicked my patootie Monday morning. I was super-sore for the next 2 days, but I could tell it was what I've been missing.
I know I always say I'll come back here more regularly, so I won't promise that this time, but I hope you are all well, and looking forward to fall racing! I don't have anything planned - we've had so many unexpected expenditures that I can't splurge on race fees right now. But I can train for free, so that's what I'll keep doing!
