Hello All!!

Not much time, just wanted to pop in and say a general good luck to the racers.

Hey Dom! do you get Veterans Day off? There is a 5k in Mankato that day...

Nice run Scratchh, your determination and recovery has been really inspiring!!

Later!
B

Good morning everyone! Waiting for a guy to come and install blinds then I'm heading out for 6.

Excellent job on your run today Scratch!

Do we have bib numbers for tomorrow's racers?

Way to go Scratch! I'm with everyone else, watching your progress is really cool.

Beth have fun at your race today!

YES! We need bib numbers! We can track online progress, yes?

I caught the play by play in the PRT on the Olympic Trials. I took seester Goon to my corporate fitness center to work out this a.m. - with her two babies it's just hard for her get that done these days. So Grandma watched the babies and we went to the fitness center. Just an easy three on the treadmill. My IT band is feeling tight. Boo! We had scrumpy cappuccinos afterward. A nice morning. And we're going SHOE SHOPPING this afternoon. Whee! She's waaaay overdue for new running shoes.

Olympic Trials - Yay! I don't know if I'd be spoiling it for anyone who'e waiting to find iut the top three so I won't name names. I'm really happy about two of the top three, one in particular, not really familiar with the third one. I'll have to set a tape to watch the replay/highlights this afternoon.

Seester Goon also brought me a bunch o' beer. Hoo-ray!

OK, much to do today and miles to go before I sleep.

Happy trails all!

Woohoo! Scratch!

Bard & Frankie - Thanks!

Lovely run this morning. Both of us stopped in our tracks to watch a deer sprint up from the river into the neighborhood we're coming out of, and it jumped a privacy fence. The deer just gracefully launched itself up and over. It was cool. Then we took off again.

Going out for dinner with Dh to a fancy restaurant tonight.

Go weekend racers!!!

Yeah, Scratch, you've come a long way! Great work!

Maples, you guys play some 1-AA team today, right? Hopefully you can win that.

Well, I just finished up my run. First week of tapering down towards Philly. I did 13 miles at an 8:53 pace. I'll take it. It also puts me at 1211 miles for the year (overall 8:59 pace), which surpasses the 1202 I did in 2006. I'll take it.

Two things happened to me on my run today that are becoming common occurances for me:

1. Someone asked me for directions. Okay, it wasn't actually on my run this time; it was while I was still stretching. Lately, drivers have been pulling over to me while I've been moving, and expecting me to stop to give them directions. So at least that didn't happen. Still, when I saw the car pulling over to me, I rolled my eyes a bit, thinking "Oh geez, here's another lost driver". Then the guy rolled down his window, and it turned out he was about a 60-year-old priest looking to find a funeral home. My first thought was of how I would decorate my cubicle in hell. But the funeral home was just a few blocks away, so I gave him the directions. No big deal... I think.

2. I got hit by a car again. Once agian, it was no big deal and I'm okay. But this is my third such incident in a couple of weeks. This one was very similar to the others. I was running down a main street, on the side of the road facing traffic. I approached a side street that had a stop sign. A car was coming down that side street and wanted to make a right turn onto the street I was running on. It was a blue SUV, and the driver was wearing an Eagles jersey. It figures. ( ) Anyway, since he was turning right, he only bothered to look to his left. Seeing there were no cars coming, he rolled right thru the stop sign and into my path. Once again, I had to jump out of the way and slam my hands down on the hood of the car to brace myself, before he finally saw me and slammed on the brakes. Like I said, no harm done. But this is starting to piss me off that this keeps happening. He rolled down his window and, with a very sheepish look on his face, just kept repeating "I'm sorry". So at least he knows he screwed up (unlike one of the previous drivers who yelled at me like it was my fault). I gave the guy a little piece of my mind, including my sarcastic driving lesson. ("That is a stop sign. It means you are supposed to stop". He still kept saying "I'm sorry" over and over, so I finally just told him to be careful (like I was a parent watching his kid take the car out alone for the first time) and ran off.

So what the hell is going on? Am I a magnet for these people? Or is North Jersey the world capital for lost people who are in such a hurry that they have to run every intersection?

Well, sorry to rant for a while. Time for some grub...

Um, I just logged on to the computer to see the trials results. Congrats to the top 3.

More importantly, has anyone seen the tragic news? I hate to report this. Ryan Shay, 28, died after collapsing after mile 5 1/2. Oh.my.God.

Horrible news.

Yipes, Bob. That's scary. I get more and more nervous about cars.

Thank you to everyone who's commented on my run today. It felt really good out there going that far and long. I could have kept running farther too. But I was satisfied with covering the half-marathon distance, that's a pretty good haul now and I'm happy with it. I knew after 5 miles was done that it wasn't going to be any problem and I just worked on picking up my pace especially over the last 5K which I did in a little over 32 minutes.

Now I just need to get my legs ready 2 weeks from now.

On a better note, I did 12 miiles this morning. Legs were a bit sore from a good speed workout last night, but otherwise the run went well. It was WINDY and a bit chilly, though. Met a guy who was also doing a long run who is running Philly as his first marathon. It's his 60th birthday present to himself.

GOOD LUCK to all our weekend racers! MN and NYC peeps! Kick some butt! Good runs to all!

GatorBob - Sorry to hear that you got hit again. Whenever I approach an intersection, and I'm approaching a vehicle on the passenger side, I always stop. More often than not, when that person is making a right hand turn, they never bother to look in front of them, or to their right. They only check to their left...and often, they don't stop.

I've nearly gotten nailed several times myself.

Glad to hear you're okay.

Holy cow! There's an article on ESPN.com about it now, but they don't explain what he died of. Wow...

Shay had run the New Haven 20k every year that I have run it, i.e. each of the last four years. He finished slightly ahead of me each time...

Yah, I read about Ryan Shay. 28 years old, just got married last July to a gal he met duing the 2005 NYC marathon. SO tragic. It made me so sad. Also made me change my plan for tomorrow to my previous plan of just running for fun with friends. No realy goal or pace to keep. I'm not going to go all out. Not because I'm afraid of collapsing on the course but because I want to enjoy the run and the time with the MN peeps. I'm just going to enjoy the experience.

I read that an autopsy will be performed on Sunday. And as bad as I feel about Ryan Shay, I'm also feeling some sympathy for Ryan Hall. His record setting performance is taking a back seat. Which is too bad for him.

I am ravenous after a FIVE mile run.

Hey gang. Checking in from NYC.

Had a nice morning watching the trials with Maria, Tom, Pacer, Maria's sis and Pacer's friend Dave.

We got several chances (8 I think) to watch the guys speed by and we were so close we could touch them. Ryan Hall was so in command it was crazy. And we were all psyched to see Brisn Sell make it.

Had a bite to eat after and a nice walk and am now getting some rest before we meet back up for dinner later.

Tommorow's gonna be an early one.

hey all:

on the train back from nyc. got to hang with maria and sis. larry. pacer and his pal for the morning.

the race was awesome. we were able to cut back and forth across the park and see them 7 or 8 times. we were right around the 5 mile mark but did not hear about shay until after the race. very sad.

we got to see the leaders at 19 and 24. hall ran away with it and ritz looked really smooth too. sell made a really ballsy comeback and when we saw him at 24 we went nuts because we knew he had 3rd. he looked intense!

one of the hanson brothers was right across from us cheering his guys on and he went nuts when he heard brian moved into 3rd. we cheered him too.

I have some pics and I will post them if any came out.

good luck to all nyc and mn racers tomorrow.

Happy weekend 30's!

No, no, I didn't just wake up an hour ago. That's my story.... I haven't slept this late in I don't know how long. I think my body said, enough is enough and made me catch up on some much needed sleep.

It still hurts to move. Torture day two on Friday was good but I'm certainly feeling it today.

Plans to go out to my uncles house for a family party, welcoming a new little one into our family and to watch the LSU/Bama game. Geaux Tigers!

Hopefully after the game I'll get some exercise in. If I don't tomorrow I'll make up for it. Esp. since I'm more than likely gonna eat horrible today!

Good luck Beth, NYC ppl, MN ppl!

Poker if you guys set up an online game, let me know, I'm in as long as I'm not working that day. I think a Kick poker night would be fun.

SemiSpeedy You crack me up. Ok, but the real question is... How YOU doin'? Michigan... Hmmmn, their season has been improving, I'll give 'em that. Good luck this weekend! PS. As an LSU fan, I'd really like your boys to knock off Ohio state if they could, please. It would be much appreciated.

Soli I'm the same way when it comes to spending money. I have a hard time justifying spending money on myself too. I think I enjoy shopping for others more. Oh my goodness... added side note I can't stop laughing about that tanning the hide smiley. That is hilarious.

Reeeces pieces Me and ET have something in common. We both like 'em. I like the plain ones, but the peanut reeces pieces that come in the little yellow bag- a treat indeed.

Massages A friend gave me a gift certificate for a massage several months ago and I still haven't used it because I'm funny about that whole people I don't know touching me so much thing. Though now I think I might get over that if it will make these muscles stop aching!

Maples You've got to stop being so productive at work on Fridays!!! Funny rockin' kitty though.

Kris E Good luck this weekend and extra hugs sent your way if ya still need 'em. Laughed a lot at your comment about Duck and the caramels.

Poor Duck Hope your eye is better!

Dear Oache,

Not so sure about Pie, I really like my snickers with almonds. However, cookies or cake is better than candy agreed. If cake follows the right rules. Yellow cake, chocolate icing, chocolate cake, vanilla icing. This will make for a happy me. Happier me will be keep all this yummy stuff out of site so I don't have to tempt myself.

The one with the sweet tooth,
Tiff

Joe, Thanks... how did the rest of your week go?

Kini, Hope things slow down for you soon and you feel better.

Heater, Yes, you do. And good taste in candy since you like reeces pieces.

Diane, That's scary, stay alert!

Maureen Yep, they make sports tampons. The ladies location of my gym was handing them out like crazy a couple of weeks ago.

Scratch awesome job, you are THE man!

Ali too funny... sounds like you had a discoing fun time.

Bob what's with your attraction to car? Glad to hear you are ok. Not so cool that you keep getting hit.

Solar, Oh no, that is sad news indeed.

Howdy folks!

Thanks for all the good lucks. I think they helped! I finished in 1:54:28 (had to get under that :30!) Not great, but it was HILLY! As in yoiks, another one??? And we did the course twice for the 5 miler! ( Ailarie I saw Radioyada sitting on the wall at the finish when I came in after 5!! I wasn't expecting to see him and it took me off guard! That was a fun surprise! Congrats on your progress btw. Really awesome to see you running again! Just take it nice and east......)

Anyway, it was a small race, but I don't think I was DFL... got lapped by most of the 15 mile runners, though. It was a great way to get in a LR, though. Always easier, I think.

Congrats Scratch on your run!!

Maureen I've always wanted to see Hair live! Sounds like a lot of fun, minus the seeing the willies of your acquaintances!

Going out in a bit (after the Olympic trials show- tragic about Ryan Shay. Wow.) for some shopping. I'm glad that at least 2 of the top 3 (thanks for the spoilers I don't know the 3rd one yet) are American born. I know that may sound strange, but I think it says a lot about the American training of late. I didn't want to see 3 Kenyan runners who just came here and became citizens end up being on the team! That wouldn't really be the same! Of course, this coming from the person who didn't get (and still sort of don't!) why each city's team isn't actually made up from people from that city! I remember being surprised about that as a kid.... (yes, that also shows how much I really know about team sports! D'oh!) I'm especially glad about Brian Sell. He just seems so cool! I will definitely be watching Olympics next year!

Ok, back to the Trials highlights... then off to shopping!

That's so awesome...you're making great progress. Stick with it. You rock!

That is sad news from NYC, such a tragic thing to have happen.

Glad you guys got to hang out.

Damn boB you gotta stay away from the cars.

Well my morning was a good one. I got up first at 2:15 to give DS a breathing treatment. Then, the alarm went off again at 6:00 so I could hall my butt outa bed for the Vulcan 10K. Race was awesome and the weather perfect. I felt good just 6 days post marathon. Ended up with a 46:43. That about a 2 min PR or so. I'll get a RR up later today.

Went straight from the race to pick up my son who was with DW at a birthday party that DD was attending. This was her 2nd party of the weekend. Jeez, the social calendar of a 7 year old!!! Anyway, I took my son for some guys time, so we went and walked around Toys R Us for some pre-christmas scouting and then went to play putt putt golf and then to the park. He's tuckered out now and taking a nap. We have tix to Disney on Ice tonight back downtown.

I'm going get my own nap on the couch in a few mins.

Good luck once again to our NYC racers and to the MN racers! You guys are my heros!

Oh, BTW, Mapes when you check in, I got the BE&K 5K registration details. They had entry forms at the race this morning. I will post or PM them for you.
Craney is right I do like to drink beer and seeing as BigG has staed she will be bring some beer with her...I do not even have to find a bar...just find her....

actually last night I did 6 at an 8:34 pace and had a ton left in the tank...I may have a faster run in me tomorrow than I thought...who knows...
