If you stick around NYC for a bit after arriving, we could all get in a run together! I'll let you know about the concert, however if this is an attempt for Brandy to get me drunk so she can try and outrun me on Monday I'll find out. <insert evil laugh here>

Voodoo, yeah I just began marathon training. Of course, my marathon isn't until the middle of November, and aren't you planning on (or at least prepared for) running one in September? That would certainly explain why you're so far ahead of me in that regard. Heck, at one point I think I was close to you in total miles for 2007. But after my back-to-back marathons, I really slacked for about two months. I think I've done a total of only about 130 miles in June and July combined. Yet I'm still ahead of last year's pace...

Theia, was that a list of upcoming Dus that you are doing? All of those? Wow. I'd love to get into Dus some day -- and since a couple of those you listed are in my home state, you've already done half the work for me (i.e. finding the races). But I really probably ought to get a road bike first. I'd look foolish racing on my mountain bike and getting passed by every little old granny like I was standing still...

New Haven 20k. I'm in. Already registered. It's my hometown race, and it'll be my 4th year running it. This is the one race I hope to do every year from now until the end of time...

Whoops, no wonder Doc mistakenly thinks I'm a stud. No, I am not du-ing (haha) all those races. I was just listing them to give Lori some options. Although, I do have to say... if my schedule weren't so hectic I probably WOULD do most of them!

There are a few others I failed to list:

Tri/Du The Wildwoods
August 25
Wildwood, NJ
Run 2, bike 11, run 5K

Lighter Than Air Du
August 26
Lakehurst Naval Air Station, NJ
Run 3, bike 20, run 2

Anyone who is interested can go to trifind.com and click on whichever state they want. It's a great resource for anyone looking for a tri, du, or adventure race. Bob, you definitely would NOT be the only person on a mountain bike or hybrid.

Another day, another 8M at dawn in the humidity. When does Fall get here?!?! Another 8M w/speed tomorrow.

Welcome back, Litchfield Tim! That airline story sounds like a nightmare.

Nice elephant pic Tim in India.

Congrats on the progress you're making in C25K Maples.

Good vibes and quick healing to you, KJ.

P-Tom...mmm....cake....

Moon how funny is the TV reporting?!!? PoserChris...heh....

freeform QOD: I like and have similar answers that people have already given. Self-esteem, muscle definition, a great new bunch of friends imaginary and real, etc. Here's the big one for me right now, though: progress. If I put the time and effort into running, I make progress and get better. Not so in my grad school experience.

Unfortunately, lazy bags wasn't the mental picture this post conjured. While I'm eating lunch.

Hey, all--

Slightly disturbing news. . .went to the dermatologist this morning about a strangely placed mole, and she said, "Yeah, I definitely want to biopsy that. Let me tell you what's involved so you can decide if you want to do it today." After some discussion, she agreed that we could wait until after my 5k because, due its strange location, I probably won't be able to run for two weeks after it's removed. So, I'm thinking, not so bad. I have secret Philly 8k hopes (immediately forget you just read that), but if I have to put running on hold for a while, it won't kill me to miss that. Then, I call my mom to tell her, and she goes into full throttle panic mode, third degree about consequences ("What if it's malignant?", etc. I figure, if the doc's too worried, she wouldn't have let me put off the biopsy, right? Do you think putting it off was a bad call? If I'm not panicing, does that mean I'm delusional? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Ok, I was watching TRL (MTV) because they are supposed to show the new Maroon 5 video (yes, I like them and I'm not ashamed! ) What's up with only showing like 45 secs of a video and then having people talk over them for half of it??? Do kids these days seriously not have enough attention span to watch an entire 3 minute video???? I can't believe it, but the thought that comes to mind is "what's up with kids these days??" [insert cane wielding old lady smiley]

Prae: No sense in panicking about it. wait and see. most of the time these things are nothing more than nothing. and if it is something, they'll remove it and monitor you for awhile. easy peasy. don't work yourself up about it you have nothing to gain by doing that. nothing. just more worry.
p.s. you are so coming to Philly!

Sorry to hear that prae. Here is my take.....

#1. Don't panic. Docs have a whole range of concern, and yes, when they see something that deserves immediate attention, they do it. Most of us (as patients) have two responses to health problems - either "it's nothing", or "I'm going to die". This split is not reality. In truth, there a zillion shades of gray.

I'm guessing the mole is near a skin fold, or someplace where the biopsy is going to make rubbing skin uncomfortable. So, she wanted to buy a little time to think about how to best do it and to give you your 5k.

Derms are trained to be super suspicious, since it is easy to biopsy skin and the consequences of missing something are severe.

So, in sum, it sounds like your Derm is doing her job! Your mom's panic is normal, but not helpful. It is Ok to tell her to panic somewhere else.

Prae I have joked about being the pasty white Irishman more than a few times here. My mom had a minor skin cancer issue years ago, that was resolved in a 30 minute outpatient visit. Never had a reoccurrance. I go to a dermo once a year to get checked, and my primary checks me too, based on family history and pastiness. I have had several biopsies where the Dermo was like "well it is probably nothing, but I want to check it out." I has been nothing each and every time (thankfully). Like Doc said, if your guy (or gal) was truly concerned, they would have biopsied right then and there.

Alexis, you are the multisport queen! Here's a little plug for the tri I'm doing in September. It has a du, as well, so it could be added to your list:

The Endless Summer Tri/Du Sept. 23:
http://www.lin-mark.com/endlesssummerinfo.07.htm

and LitchTim, thanks for your thoughts on the plan. It really is bugging me today. I have a guy who owns a local running store working with me on my plan (he was hoping to qualify for the olympic trials but broke his foot - ugh) but I was and now he's been travelling a bit lately and I haven't been able to nail down a plan yet. I'm fine for now, but I like to see my schedule played out in front of me so I know what I should be doing... And yes, my sister and I look a lot alike Some of our 30's met her, or at least saw her, I'm guessing, at the NJ Marathon...

(((Prae))) Hopefully it's nothing major. No sense worrying about it right now. Worrying won't change anything, nor will it make you feel better. Right? Right.

Oooo - was it all warm and everything? Cuz the only thing better than the nickel is putting on the pajamas fresh from the dryer. . .

Unless of course, it's 90 degrees outside, in which case. . .cold drinks are better than that.
