I would have had to leave the house for something more comforting. We have zero food like that in the house. It was either watermelon, a peach, or an orange.

Oops, or a banana.

Sorry to hear about the bad day overall, Sheldon It's gotta' get better the rest of the week, I would think.

And I totally agree - a good car mechanic is like gold. I remember when I thought I was doing my due diligence and replacing the timing belt on my car (grrrr Pep Boys rotest about two decades ago. About a month after that the installation, the belt shreds and the engine goes kablooey (bent valves and all sorts of nasty stuff) on the freeway about 45 minutes from my house.

I really had no knowledge of the local car shops in that area when the tow truck driver asked me where I'd like it towed to. He thinks about it and says that he knows of a good place that'll take care of me and takes us to a place called (bad and/or clever pun aside - you decide) The Karma Kanic. The guy looks at the engine, says that the work would normally cost something like $2500 or something. He kinda' suspected I wasn't that truly flush in cash, so he said that he'd do it for me a little over $1500.

$1500 wasn't much better, but at that point I figured what choice did I have. Got the car back - it was running better than it had been when I first bought it used off the auto dealer's lot. From then on, it was quite a drive, but I gave my business with him for years until he sold off the place to retire.

It's 12 and no calls aying it's fixed.

We had it nailed down to a fualted "thermistor" by the end of the day. How long can it take to replace it?

The wind is kickin at 20+ mph today so I couldn't ride my motor or bicycle to work, which meant I had to get a ride from DW who is now driving my SUV.

I hate using that damn thing. It burns gas like crazy and to have one person in it is such a waste, arghhhh!

Man that sucks.
Dealerships are a pain. I am a mechanic, though not on new cars. I work on mostly Mercedes from 1880 to about 1985 or so, and I have a 4 year degree in auto restoration so I can say this.

The problem with most mechanics is they don't teach them the engineering behind the cars anymore. When they go to school all they learn is what can and cannot break. Which is ludicrous, everything on a car can break and its not always obvious what it is. You have to know the science behind the problem to fix it.

The best guys to fix cars are the ones who build them IE hot rod shops, and Auto Restorers like me although don't ask me to fix anything having to do with your cars computer thats one area that is not part of auto restoration yet. also often the older the mechanic the better they will be especially when it comes to an independent shop.

One time, I misprounounced "youths" and it came out "yutes" in a random conversation with someone that I'd never think would've seen that movie. He totally got the reference! That was a good chuckle.

This is why I love athletics. I spent a weekend, doing a cycling event called BRAG (Bicycle Ride Across Georgia), in the GA town where the movie was filmed. It was in Monticello, GA. We were in the town square, the courtroom, the Sac o Suds, and the bbq joint where they ate the ribs and corn on the cob outside.
