Hey all - 1100 yd at the pool yesterday. Whatever it is I figured out during the last workout is sticking around - I'm averaging about 10-15 seconds faster per 50 yd during a normal training lap than late last year. I even went full out for a final 50 and broke a minute - won't threaten Michael Phelps anytime soon, but I'll take it. Followed that swim with 30 min on the elliptical.

Maples - the fact that you're getting out there despite the lack of mojo is victory in itself. You'll appreciate it when you get the mojo back.

Is that something that comes after the tuna massage?

Related to this, has anyone caught the show Sports Science on Fox Sports Network lately? One of the episodes addressed this myth - they took heavyweight boxer Chris Byrd and had him agree to abstain from sex with his wife for a couple weeks. They then brought him into the studios, where they took readings based on a workout routine and a blood test for testosterone that they gave him.

Then he & his wife got busy that night and he came back the next day and did the same workout routine and blood test. The workout stats were pretty much the same, but the testosterone levels had increased by something like 50%.

QOD: I currently rotate between Mizuno Wave Precision 8's and a pair of Saucony Trigon Ride 5's. For some reason, I don't get more than 250 - 300 miles out of my shoes - one pair bucked the trend, but they're long gone (the Asics Nimbus VII).

Moonie yes Sports Science has become one of my hubbies favorite shows. I haven't watched a full episode yet, but that hasn't stopped him from commenting on my workouts with his new found know it all knowledge. The one episode I caught part of was with Chad Johnsen. It may have had something to do with sprinting and stopping, switching running patterns.

you and me both, Biah. I also blame some of it on my speed (or lack there of)...I spend a whole lot more time in my shoes covering the same distance as a faster runner.

His wife probably appreciated the break.

His testosterone levels may have been low while abstaining, but I'll bet he was a mean sumbitch! I wonder if they required that he had to be Master of His Domain during this period as well?

Morning all,

Well, the lack of sleep from the head cold seems to have finally caught up with me. I got decent sleep last night, but my ass is dragging today.

I got out for a quick 3 miles last night after I got home from the airport. Because of my schedule today, I won't get out to run until late tonight. I think my schedule calls for something like 11 - 13. That will probably be more like 7 - 9. Depending on time and weather.

QOD - Like coach, I was an ASICS GT 20xx person (started in the GT2040 back in '99) and had a pair of every model up through the GT2110. Then, I got scared by all of the bad GT2120 reviews and went looking for another shoe. Ended up with Brooks Radius 6. Loved that shoe and raced my first marathon in them. Moved up to the Brooks Radius 7 when they came out. I've had 4 pairs of them last year and this year. I think I just retired my last pair last night or tonight. Brooks is discontinuing this shoe, and I have purchased the last pair from one store, and picking up another pair today or tomorrow. After that it'll be new shoe time again. I'll look at whatever Brooks offers in place of the Radius and consider the ASICS Nimbus, and the Nike Pegasus. BTW, I got a pair of DS Trainers for Christmas to use in shorter races. Haven't used them yet though.

BTW, I get about 330 miles out of a pair of the Radius.

Oh yeah - the question was something to the effect of could a wide receiver give his quarterback a target area as big as an elephant. They proved it to be true, but I doubt Chad would want to be in all the stretched out positions they showed him in with, say, Troy Polamalu ready to lay the smackdown on his a$$

morning all,
I'm finally recovered from strep and managed a whopping 2.5 miles yesterday (first run in 2 weeks) and did some weights as well. It felt pretty good to be back out there. I'm still tossing aorund whether I can be ready for RnR San Diego in June (Bob- are you in?). Gotta scoot to work!

It was still so warm yesterday when I left work that I decided that a run outside was in order. I got in 3 miles at a nice easy pace. The best part was the rain started about half way through. Just a light drizzle. I love that!

Probably some crosstraining tonight since I didn't do that on Monday.

QOD - I recently changed to a Brooks something. Its a good neutral shoe. Love it. I have actually never really run through a pair of shoes. So I have no idea how many miles I can put on a pair.

You have motivated me. They have a "fitness trail" along where I usually run near my house and one of the stops is chin-up bars. I have stopped several times now. I have yet to get all the way up, but last night I got over half-way twice. I don't stop for long and I think I will only stop if I am in a recovery stage or an EZ run, but I WILL be making regular stops there.

My family is in 100% agreement that I am required to shower before I do ANYTHING at all after a run. DW and DS#2 are especially sensitive olefactorily (did I just make a new word?) and plug their noses until I leave the room. DS#2 (12yo) puts it this way: "Don't take this wrong Dad, and I know you were running, but GO TAKE A SHOWER ALREADY!"

Congrats on a job you love! I hope to get one of those someday.

(((little Jill)))

I got a run in last night. First 2 miles were with DS#2 doing W1D1 of C25k! HAd a blast and I'm lovin the podcast for that. It makes it so easy, instead of watching the watch, you just listen and obey. The next 3 miles (after quickly showing him how to log his workout in the Google ss that I set up for him) were about 8:00 (My aggressive goal for Sundays HM) and then a little .25 mile cooldown. Nice easy swim this morning and a run with the tri-club after work.

QOD: I am on my 4th pair of Brooks Adrenaline SIX's. I was only getting ~250 so I was recommended to try the Beasts or Addictions. The store I went to didn't have Addictions, so I tried the Beasts. They felt ok in the store and for the first 100 or so, but then I started getting sore Achilles after runs. Since I was ramping up mileage, and rotating shoes, it took me awhile to confirm it, but the soreness was only happening when I ran with the Beasts. I retired them at about 200, just not worth injuring myself. I've since bought 2 more pair of Adrenalines's for $50 each and have started getting in the low 300's, but I may be able to push them a bit more without too much trouble.

heeheehee

Oh great, I'm just about to head off to get my massage. I'm having my sciatic worked on (read butt massage). Now that Parcells is down here on South Florida, you think I can ask for the "Big Tuna?"...I'll probably wouldn't be allowed back. I actually just made myself throw up a little, thinking about getting a massage from Bill Parcells...yuck! Letting that one go.

I got in my 14 miler this morning. I was okay, started out a little stiff from yesterday but ended up feeling great. Tomorrow is a "recovery day", so I'll be able to get in some sleazy, breezy, easy miles...

QoD: I got fitted for a pair of Nike Air Structure Trisomethings back in May last year. My legs felt good with them all last summer, I bought another pair in October, so I've been swapping between the two pairs. The older pair has over 400 miles on them and I've noticed my legs feel a bit more tired in them on longer runs than in the newer pair.

Planning on a run at lunch. Supposed to be a tempo run. I got no sleep last night. We had the windows open because DH didn't close the flu (however you spell it) on the fireplace and the house smelled smokey. The blind in our bathroom was flapping all night and I was too out of it to go and fix it so it just woke me up all night along with the dog, the kid and my bladder. I will get out there (since its still really warm - 63 at 9am this morning), I might swap the tempo for tomorrows ez run if I feel eh.

We all have running funks. And after a mini break its sometimes hard to come back (trust me, I'm going through that right now myself) but hang in there Maples!

That's my long LR right now .

(((Jill & Rachel))) - there has been way to much puking in that household these days, I feel for you!

QOD: 2 pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS7s and 1 pair of GTS6s. I get about 300 to 350 on the 7s, the 6s are less. They work OK for me but I need to ask again at the running store. They recommended the adrenalines and the asics 2120s but the 2120s didn't work for me at all. I overpronate slightly and have a wide foot so I have to see what else they recommend.

I feel like every bad habit I've every had is catching up with me. I've been feeling rough this week. Got out yesterday for a tough 5-miler. I just don't feel well at all. I wanna get 10 miles in today, but I feel bad. Don't know what the deal is. I've been sleeping relatively well. I was up late Sunday night but have been fine other than that. I just feel like teh carp.

QOD: Saucony ProGrid Triumph 4. I've got 415.4 miles on one pair, 366.5 and 220.4 on another. All three pair are still in my rotation, though I haven't worn the ones with 415.4 in a while. They're semi-retired. All there pairs have duct tape on the inside where my foot wore through.
