Hi, everyone Hiya back, SS (Look for a brown paper package soon)! Goot going on the running, especially everyone getting back out there after layoffs! Speaking of layoff, I decided to not run again today. Little to gain and much to lose. Yesterday I was elated because walking was so painless, but I spent about 5 or 6 hours in the car yesterday. Today after a normal day of walking around I feel a few twinges right where the ping happened. It can wait. So.... I found some calf strenthening things that I'll commence after this thing calms down.
Rose, I'm so sorry about the boy.
Here we have a young lady Miranda, 17, star basketball player, in critical condition in the hospital since a car accident last Friday. Her back broke in several places and her spinal cord was severed. She is quadriplegic. It's not fair.

Hi everyone, good Saturday workouts/runs to all....

On my way out of the house to the "glurpy" woodchip trail (thanks, Econo!), my three crow friends arrived for morning peanuts. They are bold and eat right in front of me. My neighbors must think we are warlocks.

Ran 10 springy miles. Cool (51 deg F) and cloudy but nice. It's not raining in my part of So. Cal. right now but there's more rain on the way tonight.

Rose, sorry to hear about that kid. How sad.

Thanks, FF. Hope your calf will reward your patience tomorrow.
Nice 10ers, Dirt and Drom.

millbot, please check your email. Borscht-making question coming your way.

Hi all. I managed to hit the "calm before the storm" and did 6.28 miles in 39 degrees with only a breeze. What a nice change and I ran a rather speedy pace versus my normal slogging.

Old guy - so sorry to hear about your BIL
Rose - How sad to hear of someone so young dying

Well, off to help DH work on our addition to the house. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Good to see our injured getting a few miles in...

Sad stories on the deaths and injuries of young ones and others. I'm wondering how John's FIL is doing these days. Hug your loved ones tight cuz you just never know.

Ksrunr, yeah, about that avatar.... Haven't had a chance to dig one up yet but still planning on it! I'm also waiting for you to come up with a nasty looking ostrich or pigeon first! hehe.

The Dish Network man is here to install satellite TV for us. This little home theater project of MrC's is turning into a monumental expense to someone like me who rarely watches television. I have stopped asking questions like "how much was that?" I really don't think I want to know the total cost of everything.

<going back to sticking my head in the sand>

I'm alive.
Just dragged in and washed the trail off
headed out to see some friends
The stream was beautiful with all the ice in it
Saw an 8' icicle on a railroad cut, that sucker could kill.
"plus i almost snorted pineapple chunks out my nose reading your sig line..." Noodles and pineapples - must be a family thing

My wife says I'll be racing wheel chairs in the nursing home when my time comes. she's right!

"Here we have a young lady Miranda, 17, star basketball player, in critical condition in the hospital since a car accident last Friday. Her back broke in several places and her spinal cord was severed. She is quadriplegic. It's not fair." At the race today was a younger person in a fancy wheel chair. I thought what one of our posters always writes "enjoy the gift"

3J - You put up some awesome VRAA points today. I was looking thru 1st and 2nd vraa posts. - Mega points being put up this time around. Everyone is hitting it hard 'cept me.

Choovie - you first

Rose - your kids have had to learn about death at an early age - good thing they have parents that can help them through.

3 mile run today in what felt like balmy conditions at 32 and a lovely 2 mile walk along the beach. It was so beautiful - the sea foam had frozen along the shore, there were snow capped rocks and many (many, many) sand dollars. It was really beautiful!

15 minutes snowshoe with hills at avg 68% 23:20 pace. Those that want to loose some weight, I don't think there is a better calorie burner. I think I will ease into this as it is more work but very low impact, no learning curve, if you can walk or run, you can snow shoe. Hopefully before the snow clears, I will be able to do some dream runs in the mountains. Traded in the refrigerator butt, to a mountain goat! Heat buildup is probably the only problem, I will probably have to change my signature to:

"If you see a naked man running up a mountain trail in Montana wearing snow shoes, you are probably lost"ldd

I think this is going to be an enjoyable addition to my running experiences.

Good runs All, Larry

PS I have noticed since we are on a site with a spell checker, our spelling is worse.

Some sad news on the board today. Life is so precious.

I was wondering who taught the banana to dance. Way to go tomwhite.

Dave & mc, thanks for detailing your balance board routines. I'm going to do more of this once I am pain-free. And thanks again to you all for the healing vibes.

mc, it's good to have the "why" question settled before the race. But there must be a more satisfying answer out there.

FF, let's be smart and sedentary together.

{{choovie's budget}}

Nice outing, JJJ. You have the most tiring weekends.

^5 on the long run, Dennis.

Larry, you're making me want to try the snowshoe 5K in a couple weeks (clothing required though). Maybe if I'm healthy...

8 miles on the treadmill... was going to run outside but we had an ad in the paper for our old appliances and cabinets (still have them, btw), and we had a lot of calls on them earlier so decided not to stray too far from home. Good thing, too... about mile 3 had an emergency bathroom situation occur. Drat, hate it when that happens! But so good to be downstairs vs. 3 miles from home!!! This was a progressive type run with miles 2 thru 7 being at or above marathon pace.

Gotta go check out the VRAA threads... sounds like 3xJ had a really good day! Yeah for Team S!!!

Late post from yesterday. Crappy 3 mile run, just no energy. Maybe I should have eaten something. Anyway then I went for a successful Geocaching expedition, found 7 including two previous DNF's. That ended up being 3.25 miles of walking.

Good Sunday to all.

Even later post for yesterday's run... Didn't get out to the park until almost 3pm, had tons of stuff to do in the morning into the afternoon. I always find it difficult to run or do any sort of exercise that late in the day, must be my body's natural rhythm or cycle or something. Anyway, was planning on doing another longish run, but considering yesterday's dead legs on the 7-miler, I was happy to settle with only 5.5 miles. At least I made 20 for the week.

But the strangest thing happened about a third of the way through the run: I was beset with hot flashes. Though "flash" isn't exactly the right term, since the heat seizure in my head lasted for what felt like a good 10 minutes. Never found my groove again after that. Overall average pace ended up being 9:48, which isn't all that slow for me, but still, my head feeling like that just wasn't very nice. I had eaten and was sufficiently hydrated, and the temps were in the low 40s and overcast. I know I wasn't overdressed (tights, LS tech shirt, gloves, Buff headband over my ears, pretty much my usual), so I'm completely baffled by the experience. The heat was specifically localized in my head and face, like I was seriously blushing or something. A couple more weeks, waiting out the calendar for a third month to go by, then I'll see my doctor, I think. Very weird...

Esther, my hot flashes usually start on my chest and rise up my neck into my face. They can last anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Maybe that's what happened to you. Are you in menopause or perimenopause? How old are you?

Susan

Susan, I'm 45. The flashes started about 6 months ago, I think, maybe longer. I'm in the third month of having missed my cycle. Seriously the beginning of the end, I think. As to whether I'm in peri or the real thing, I'm not sure. Is there a blood test for such things? I really don't know.
