Hi, I'm a recent coolrunning refugee and your thread here is getting me off my butt this morning. Ok for real, now I'm dressed for 14 miles I've been putting off, thank you all very much! And congradulations to ultra-Nettie!

I always knew Nettie was an ultra babe, and now it's true in more ways than one!

I ran 14 miles this morning so I'm nowhere near Nettie's winning total for the weekend, but it was a good run. I started off not wanting to run because it was cold, the first time I've gotten up early in almost a week, dark, no one running with me...the first 2-3 miles were creaky & slow (8:20, 8:05, 7:52), but then I loosened up (7:30-7:40) till the turnaround point (7 miles) and ran well on the way back (7:00 pace, +/- 5 seconds either way for every mile). Felt good once I eventually loosened up - I took yesterday off (not by choice - wasn't happy about it) and I think I was out of sorts.

Corrade - Welcome. And assuming you're a Pats fan like several others on the board, congrats on 16-0...I hope and pray that my Steelers end the dream season, assuming we get by our first playoff opponent!

make that a beerS!
measly??? no such thing. good for you for gettting out and doing it.

I was able to squeeze in 10m yesterday - a 5M out and back up the hill and back down. I inserted 7 X ~120 yard strides (~80% sprints if I'm getting that right) in the last 1 1/2 miles...cooling off in the last 1/2 mile w/a nice sleazy pace. The pace felt relaxed for the whole run but I think it was still too quick at ~8:30mpm. Doing long runs at a slow pace (to increase endurance) is just turning out to be impossible for me. I want to do my LR's in ~9mpm, but I slide into a groove and drift off mentally and find that I'm going faster than I want to.

Shiveringuncontrollably-oleenie - on really cold days I make a batch of hot chocolate before I go out - the real stuff. I lace it with a touch of rum and peppermint schnapps and put it in a thermos for when I get back. Is hot chocolate gluten-free?
Oh, and I don't share.
Nettie - that is crazy. I dunno if I could devote enough attention to doing any one thing for that amount of time. Even if it felt good.
Congratulations!

Off to pull out M&D's dock from the lake and maybe hit the gym while Paige enjoy's some Mimi-time.
Cheers

!!!!!!!!!!!!NETTIE!!!!!!!!!
I wish I had something to say as cool as what you did!

Hey homies.
Got 4 on tap. Going to let it warm up a tad. Thanks for the post run shivers info. I'm thinking taking off my sweaty clothes is a big one. Many times I run in Columbus and then drive home (40-45 minutes or so). Even the full blast heater doesn't help. I am all over the hot shower. I usually run out of hot water trying to warm up on the inside (if that makes any kind of sense). I am going to try a warm drink after. Usually, I try to have my coffee before the run and stick to water the rest of the day...this might be the key!
Dog snuggles...always.

As always, thanks for the info...and for not making me feel like a nutter....

I tried to end my streak of self-pity today and went to the Y to do the elliptical---it's the only thing that doesn't aggravate my shoulder, and that's if I turn off the upper body workout option.

I feel better having done something.

HUGE congrats to Nettie!

Hey all:

Congrats Nettie!!!

So get this, yesterday is DW & my anniversary, and she proposes... wait for this... an anniversary run together!!! She has been running steadily since the fall and other than the Turkey trot, this was our first run together. Woohoo! 5 easy on a muddy trail with DW.

Today might be a 0 day, the shin is a little sore. Or as DW is claiming, she ran me into the ground!

What a cool way to celebrate your anniversery Tom!

I ran 16 today with the 'spring marathon training team' sort of an offshoot of my running club. It was a nice hilly course. (I can't believe I used nice, and hilly in the same sentence). I ran it with another guy who usually runs with the Saturday group, so it was cool meeting someone new. Finished off the 16 miles in 2:02:54. Not too bad... we ran a nice 8:33 opening mile, and then kept turning up the gas until around mile 12, then just sort of kept it between 7:35 and 7:50 pace for the last 4 or so.

Jaeger Dawg flew off the back Friday night... we were all in the bonus room, DW was playing Wii Zelda... I was on the TM... Jaeger was on the couch. He usually runs with me... he looked over and saw that I was running, and I think he decided he wanted to run too... so the next thing I hear is my wife saying 'No Jaeger' and I saw a brown and white blur, jump on the TM... then fly of the back. She escorted him out of the room after that.

No Jaegers were hurt during this stunt! I wish we had it on video, we'd be $10,000 richer I'm sure!

Myron - you've been logging some solid runs since Richmond...your confidence should be pretty high about a sub 3:16 in the next few months!

PTom - Happy anniversary! I don't know that I would have furnished my wife with an excuse to say "Not tonight...I'm too tired from our run!" but maybe you were going for the whole "spending quality time together" angle (hopefully you refrained from the typical in-run farting and snot rocket blowing...some chicks aren't into that, for some reason)

Ok. First off: OH MY GOD NETTIE! YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!

Now, me

I got in 5 on Friday night. It was ok. I ran it a little too fast as I met up with DH half way through and we finished the run together. Yesterday, well, that run sucked. Plan was to do 15+. Conditions, as you have heard from other MN runners, were very crappy. There IS about 2-3 inches of fine snow on the trails and it made the traction poor. I started with the dog. She ate something bad on the run, probably got some salt with the snow she gulps and by the time we hit the actual trail, she started to throw up. I turned around and started to make our way back. She threw up 2 more times but then seemed ok so we started to slowly run. As we were crossing a street, she put on the doggy FULL STOP right in the middle. Unfortunately I didn't notice until to late and the jerk of the leash going tight coupled with the thick patch of ice right below my feet resulted in a grand wipeout. I landed on my right hip/butt check and my right elbow. I took the pups home and proceeded with my run which never went below a freaking 1030 mile. I finished my 15 (no + was to be had) in 2:50. Oh well. I came home, took a very hot shower and crashed almost immediately for an hour.

Today's plans are lifting and a little bike/run at the gym.

Final numbers for 2007. My runningahead log has be at 1367. I didn't migrate until mid May I think so add another 600 or so. I dunno. Weight gained - 8 lbs.

morning!

Got out for my 10.3 miler before the wet stuff moves in later today. I had overdressed, so I was thrilled when my sister pulled up next to me at about mile 6 and I was able to give her my jacket. That was a good boost and I finished the run feeling much better.

I was only supposed to do 10, but I tacked on the last .3 so that my yearly total now stands at 1411. I just couldn't end on 1410.7
Monday's usually a day off from running, so that may have been my last run of 2007... what a year.

CONGRATULATIONS NETTIE!!!!!!

I suppose that shold be over in the FUn Thread though, huh?

Happy Anniversary PTom! Cool way to celebrate. A Gatorade need for a coupla reasons.

Yay Diane!

20h I reallllly want summa dat hot cocoa you're talking about. MMmmmmmmm It would be an awesome reward to look forward too. But that would mean I need to go out and run. hm

I had big plans of leaping out of bed early this a.m. and heading over to the gym, however, I woke up this morning with a really tight lower back. I think it's a combo of the running in snow and then shoveling. It's a lot better now that I've been moving around, but there was no leaping out of bed at. all. I crawled out and slowly stretched for quite a while and then took some ibuprofen. I'll have to work somethihng in later today. Just not sure what it will be yet.

Happy Trails all!

Afternoon, kiddos.

First, WAY TO GO NETTIE!!!! What an awesome accomplishment. (And did we know that she's not actually in her thirties?!?!?!?!)

I was trying to come up with excuses not to run this morning (b/c I'm lazy) when I got an evite from one of my mentors at school who invited me to a Marti Gras party. Last year I bought two dresses at Goodwill and I wanted to wear the black one with an orange underskirt, but it was a little snug around the hips and I was constantly pulling it down. I went with the black dress with the funky hem instead. Well, when I got that evite, visions of the cut out dress flashed in my head and I vowed to fit into it this year. As I only have 5 weeks, I had to go out for run. Thus, 3.12 miles at 10 seconds/mile faster than my run on Friday. This puts me at a whomping 171.2 miles for 2007! Actually, I'm quite thrilled to be running still, and I can work on being more consistent. I had a couple of good months and a couple of really crappy ones. 2008 is going to be a good one.

Happy New Year everyone, if I don't get on again.

Way to gut out them runs all! Brandy, Corrade (welcome!), VooDoo, 2oh, Becca, boB, PC, P-Tom and Mrs. P-Tom (yeah!!!!), BigG, Craney. and most of all, NETTIE THE ULTRA AWESOME KICKASS RUNNER CHICK!!!! I'm back in NYC now and ready to get a run in this afternoon. Going to accompany J down to B&H (big camera/electronics place here) and pick up a big-assed new tv first. It looks pretty pleasant outdoors -- will shoot for something in the 8-9 range.

That's funny. One of our Aussie's used to try to jump on the TM while I was running, so we taught her how to go on her own. She'll actually run on it alone in the room, it's pretty neat to listen to her trotting away. She doesn't like to go as fast inside as she does outside, but I think she really likes it. When she's done, she just stops running and falls off the back and walks away.

I got in my mind numbing 18 on the 'mill myself, no injuries were incurred...no more 'milling for a while, that was plenty. That put me at 66 miles for the week, a little shorter than planned because of the holidays, but all good runs.

Good runs today everyone!

Gluten-free yes. But it has sugar. I don't eat sugar either.

I had hot hot hot home-made turkey broth after my run this morning (which was lovely btw). Yummy stuff. And then the dogs stared at me while I showered.
