Duckgeek- your reeling off the miles. Sweet. Nice runs, all.

Today's run: 22.5 miles easy on hills, 3:16. Sunny mid-20s at 11am.

The group I'm training with this season is running their long runs by time and not distance. Their plan is less concerned with pace and does not promote running too fast. Averaged about 8:50 per mile.

I. am. sore.

Hinckley Reservation is a local hilly metropark with a popular 10 mile loop. The rolling road route has a couple 300-foot climbs and decents make it a popular marathon training loop. 50K in 6:03 at Hagg Lake.

This race is known as "Hagg mud" and this year was a little worse than usual. It rained pretty hard most of the day and the normally ankle-deep mud was soon covered by a few inches of rapidly flowing water. Everybody just had to slow down and churn through this for much of the distance.

Not difficult for me, just slow. And for the last 12 miles I was grinning from ear to ear, having an absolute blast.

I needed a fun day like this.

I did 10 miles Saturday. I was 5 minutes late so ended up running with two other runners in a faster group than I normally run in. My group leader recommended I run with these guys when I first signed up but I wasn't sure I could keep up. But I actually pushed them at the end and was quite strong so for the next training session starting in April I might move over.

There are at least two others in my current running group that could easily keep the same pace also. The problem with running groups sometimes is you get used to the comraderie of certain runners and just don't want to change.
