QOD I'm the opposite of Scratch. I hate running on the lines! That's good if we ever run together; we won't be jockeying for position!

I count my breaths and try to alter my breathing pattern, especially when I'm doing a tempo run.

I wave at drivers who give me a wide berth.

Not sure what else.

Howdy, folks. Finally I'm home again. It was a very fun weekend in Philly. It was great to see everybody again. First of all, a big Thank You to everybody... you all make this the greatest group of people anywhere...

My marathon was a success, for the most part. I did get a PR, 3:48:12, which was 44 seconds faster than Cincy. However, I think I could have done much better. I certainly didn't have the most intelligent weekend, and part of that is the way I ran the race. I went out way too fast. My average pace was still 8:10 at mile 9, and then it slowly and continually went down. I passed the 12.4 mark (20k) faster than I ran the New Haven 20k in a PR time a couple months ago. Oops.

But hey, I made it, and a PR is a PR. I'll take it. I'm not sure if I'll get a whole race report posted here on KR, but I'll definitely add one to my web page sooner or later.

And umm, no run for me today either. I might just take a couple days off...

Mandy - we missed all of you who weren't able to be there. There's definitely someone/something for everyone with this group!

I am a former xctry skiing junkie (who knew there was such a thing?) - usually local golf courses rent skis, maybe check those out? Like others have said, it's pretty easy to get started, just slide your skis forward, one at a time. My brother taught me how to ski by entering me in a 5k state qualifier race. He thought it would be funny, but I finished. And then signed up for another race, and another, and another...

Me too! There was a set of squiggly white lines, looked like dripped paint, along the road on the 8k. I set my vision about 10 feet ahead on those lines and stayed on them all the way up the incline...

Big fat 1 I'm still processing how much I enjoyed this weekend...

Okay, people keep make me meet with them, I'll have to come back to the thread for more processing later...

Yes, so do my DSs (DS1 was captain of xc ski team last year). I have DS1's old skis from when he was a sophomore. you can learn easily enough just by strapping the things on and walk-sliding. (To actually be good and not fall down the hills, I believe that there is more involved, but I'm not at that point yet.)

5 this morning on the TM. I'm going to give every other day a shot this week and see if I can get myself out of this post-marathon slump.

QOD: some people have noticed this about me...but I retie my shoes a lot before a race. A lot.

General running quirk. If I am running with someone, I prefer to be on the right. Hmm.....I can't think of anything else.

QOD - Alright I hav a couple.
First, like KP I have to have aturn aroung object. I don't have to go around it, but I have to touch it. Actually I call it "monking it" after the Tony Shaloub character "Monk". If I'm turning around at a corner, I just feel compelled to touch what ever major object is at that corner. Call me crazy.

Hey all -

20 min bike and weights on my lunch hour.

QOD - not sure what is strange about my running itself, but during races I wear my sun glasses, rain or shine, and even if its dark when we start. They are prescription sunglasses and they don't fog up on me. My glasses themselves fog up so I don't use those. On training runs I run w/o them if its not sunny, but for races I want to be able to actually SEE the crowd in case there is anyone there cheering me on.

Sage - hang in there.

I am feeling slumpy too....and I don't have a reason!

How's the hip feeling?

me too! Summer - visor (either Nike Dri-fit or Brooks) Fall or cooler weather - Nike hat with viso. Winter - Nike thermal fit skull hat (this thing is like putting a heater on your head). I also have a HIND ear thingy (what do you call that, it's like an ear gator) that can be worn with either a visor or light weight ball cap.

One of the things I have worried about as I built up towards yesterday and running the half in Philly was what would happen after that. Obviously, I can't answer what will happen yet, but as a matter of hoping to avert a prolonged slumpy feeling, I decided to start making plans for the next goal race.

I decided upon the Broad Street Run and training for it will be different some now. I still want to see if I can't increase my endurance and do some longer long runs, but now I want to see about getting myself in better shape and see what it's like to race 10 miles.

It's difficult sometimes. And setting goals should always be done with a bit of caution. It's not for every personality type either. But somehow I've been finding it useful to keep me moving. Even when I was down with the broken leg, I kept the goal of running a half-marathon and as time passed and more became known, I set upon getting ready for the 18th of November.

Good luck however it may be for you.

YOU ARE AN ANIMAL!
Put it in the 30s calendar! (i don't have the addy handy)
sounds like a pre-game baseball routine.

I'm just about to head out for 6M w/hill repeats. I have been strapped to my desk all day and am itching to shed some angst.
Congrats again to all you philly runners. Impressive showings.
Hope to read some RRs when I get back.

So, that's the day after Flem and I are racing on Saturday Dec 8th. Should be a good racing weekend for our group. It's the Honolulu marathon right? Keep an eye out for Kenny Moore. He lives there and I think he still runs marathons when he's not injured.

[crossing fingers & toes] everything is feeling ok. I went for 6 on saturday with DS2 (he very gentleman-ly slowed down to 8:44s for me) and my foot was feeling kinda gimpy the rest of the day, but both hips held. and no after effects.

I do have another goal race on the schedule, but it's not until April. i really didn't have to be running much in the month since the marathon, but i feel pretty grumpy & lost without having a schedule that i have to stick to "or else." and running keeps my brain chemicals in good order, without it i have mood issues.

So does someone else in our group. I won't name names, but he has many of them.

Umm, thanks??
