HI Ya'll. No run this morning, was pretty wiped out at 10 pm last night and figured I needed more sleep.

QOD: I gave up smoking (what lil' bit I was still doing, maybe 1 pack/week). 40 lbs, 4 inches off my waist, and lot of sleep.

I'm due for a new pair - have ~550 on the newest ones. Oddly enough, the first pain occured when I was wearing heels. Maybe I'll go to fleet feet tonight and get a new pair of runners.

qod...given up free time to run

Did you get my picks?

Congrats to Scratch on the 1-year anniversary! Look how far you've come!!!!!

My feet hurt today. I think I run totally differently (foot strike and all) on a treadmill vs. outside. Is that possible? I know my stride is different, but my foot strike too???

Not sure how many people saw it last night, but I did force myself to drive to the gym at 8 p.m. to do my speed workout. One mile repeats x 3. Coach yelled at me when I got home b/c (he said) I didn't do them fast enough. Harumph.

Cross-training today, then going to the ballet w/ Mom! Yippee!

QOD I don't know that I've given up anything for running. I do feel as though I talk to you guys more than some of my non-running friends, though. I'm trying hard to balance it all out (sucks being this popular! ), but it's hard.

Theia - great job on the intervals. Mile repeats are TOUGH! Wanted to plant a seed and let you know I registered for both the Hot Chocolate 15K and Joe Kleinerman 10K yesterday - first two weekends in December. I think you'll be in town for one of them...

I don't know if that is it. My pup tends to need some encouragement when I run with her. I like to take her at first because my first miles are normally slower than the end ones and then I have some time to stretch out the legs if I need to. Hmm.. I normally take her at least a bit of my run. I was just so tired. I will not be taking her tonight. We'll see

RFTL - I think that is it. Frustrating though. I wanted to get back into my training.

Oh, and honestly I've found the 800s to be the hardest so far. Coach* is changing up the speed workouts each week.

Week 1 -- 1600, 800, 400, 200, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 (I made the last one another 800 b/c I had nothing left at that point)
Week 2 -- 4 x 800
Week 3 -- 6 x 400 + 4 x 100
Week 4 -- 3 x 1600

That second week was teh suck bigtime!!! I liked Week 3 the best. I am definitely all fast twitch muscle fibers. I'm built for speed, baby!

*Not CoachT, fort hose interested in this discussion. I live with my coach. Makes it more difficult to fire him.

Four miles this morning at a 34F. Broke out the pants for today and glad I did because I realized how windy it was after I got out there.

Tim - well said.

QOD: probably late nights and some beer drinking - not fun to run 10-12 miles with a hangover on a regular basis. But the sacrifice has been worth it - I feel better, I'm at a weight I haven't seen since right after college, and I'm in better health at almost 35 than I was at 25.

sara... start with the rolling and stretching now. when my pf got out of control is when i spent 3 days in chicago running around in some 4 inch stilletos. it hurt so bad it almost made me cry (and i read a magazine while getting tattooed a lot....) try busting out some lower shoes, tell your shoe person about this problem and they can help with the shoes (i wear saucony hurricanes and LOVE them for this) this is not fun. let me help save you some pain....

heh. i know that's right.
but seriously...i took turning 30 way better than most of my friends and I think it was because (while i am not quite as thin) I am in way better shape at 32 than at 18. Makes me excited to see what 40 will bring.

Nice bit, Tim. I don't really give a flying flip if I ever get any faster etc. 2 docs told me I wouldn't run again. If all I ever do is 12 miles a week at 12 m/m....that's way better than what I thought I'd get. And I'm thankful for it.

Brandy and Myron Hank has helped me knock my speed down to 11's and if I don't go fast enough...he turns around and looks at me like, "come on let's go already..." course I am no where near as fast as you folks are, either....

I"m not totally convinced it PF (maybe it's just me being stubborn). Sometimes I can walk around fine with no pain and then all of a sudden ---wham-o!!!! Thanks for the input --- I'm going to work on rolling and stretching (thank, Maria, too).

A total of 12 yesterday. I’ll do 6 with a bunch of guys from the gym this afternoon. We’ll run too fast, but it’ll be fun.

QOD – I’ve given up a lot I think. Mostly things I should have done anyway. I have eliminated the following from my diet: all refined grains, all refined sugars/high fructose corn syrup and similar items, all alcohol, all soda, most full-fat products, most full-sodium products and there has been a significant reduction in my red meat intake. I’ve also given up my late evenings – I’m now sleeping most nights by 10-11pm although I’ll stay up later a few times each week. I’ve also significantly reduced my reading/tv time and political activities to focus on running. What else? - most other sports – no attorney league softball or football/hoops with the guys on the weekend - don’t want to get hurt, you know. Yeah, I’m a little obsessive about running.

Coach...do you have any fun?

Seriously...is it all worth it? I admire your dedication, but I'm not envious of your lifestyle.

More power to you, though. You are one single minded, goal oriented dude.

Theia - I was thinking about your post yesterday about marathon training. I agree with Maria and I think that in our area you will have better luck getting long runs in the winter than the summer. As for how to combine them with dus/tris, I have no idea. Unless you do spring marathon / summer - fall multi-sport. That might work well too since your marathon fitness would enable you to focus more on swim and bike in the hot months.

Trevor - Who were you calling a loof? Is that the thing my wife keeps in the shower?

Two threads - thumbs up from me

QOD - free time. reading something other than kids books. sleeping in. eating... well, bad eating. mucho changes in diet. I eat more veggies than a small horse. no more soda. (not as good as trev, though - I only give up booze in race training). but what I get back makes it all worthwhile.

Maria - Pciture #1 has my vote in the category of "Horribly Innapropriate, ALthough Honestly We Had No Idea At The Time" Cool pic of Hall.

Sara - I second the call for new shoes. Also rest.

Scratch - congrats on the 1 year!

LitchTim - Uhh... my advice is ... uhhh... Hmmm...

Running - 6+ tonight. I got a brochure last night for a 5k the weekend after Thanksgiving that I've run before and they've expanded the cash to top 3. I wasn't going to run a 5k before the spring. Hmmm....
