I'll let someone else start the other thread.

I won't be running today, but it was a year ago today that I did my first bit of running and walking. Don't know what it was, but that was enough to whet my appetite to run. I would find Coolrunning soon after and stumbled into the 30s thread where I said hello and Theia was kind enough to provide some history and identity to the participants of the thread.

Who would have thunk that I'd manage to run myself all the way into breaking my tibia about 7 weeks later?

So I bitched and moaned for the early portion of this year. Finally got back to walking again during March and determined to take another run at running again, with a bit more caution, experience, knowledge and better judgment. Now I'm here, sitting upon the anniversary date that in some ways seems odd because I now often think of April 21st of this year as the day I really began running -- running with better defined purpose, goals, and a plan.

I suppose there's something a bit deeper underneath it all than the tangible visible expression we call running, the act of controlled falls one after another, right foot springs up and the left falls into the ground, then the left foot springs up and the right foot falls into the chosen running path. While I had waited for my leg to heal, I did other stuff like pull ups and push ups.

I don't know if any of us ever know exactly what that deeper underneath item is, what it is that drives us.

But whatever it is and however it comes out, good luck with it.

Happy anniversray, Scratch. Great post...

Please tell me it's not Tuesday...

I had an east TM run last night. Tonight I'll go out for 6-7 miles, hopefully outdoors. We shall see.

I guess I don't have anything thrilling to talk about...

Happy Happy, Scratch! You are right. Totally, totally right.

With the time change I can run mornings again. Just need it to get a wee little bit lighter and Hank and I are gone. Well, I need a little more coffee, too.

My arch still freakin' hurts. But I keep telling myself about Tonya's article about it taking a long damn time to heal. Grf.

Even with the 2 threads...I can't keep up these days. If I missed anything important, let me know.

Kris Detra is signing up for jingle dingle run. I'm going to sign up here a a day or two. Um, Panera after???

Alright. Off to hang off my steps.

hugs and kisses-

I'm trying to make this a little more encompassing...since a number of us aren't running but are kicking some serious bootie working out in other ways.

I have day 4 of my 5-day training today, so I won't be online. I didn't want anyone to think I had stayed out of the thread on purpose, though. I'm also driving up to Portland, ME after today's training to attend a conference tomorrow. Is it wrong that I pick my hotels less on proximity to the conference and more on whether they have a gym?

I didn't think so.

Good morning Maureen and those who follow!

Just got back from 3.25. My pace was much better than it has been, so I am feeling a bit more confident for Saturday's race.

My left leg went numb for the last mile or so. Has this ever happened to anyone else? It was from my thigh to my toes. It is feeling fine now.

I'll try to do an upper body workout later today. I had to cancel my appointment with my trainer. DD2 is still sick.

Have a happy day!

Well, I'll leave it to you folks to figure out whether we'll continue in this thread, or in Scratch's.

Also, don't forget that there's one week left to get in your picks for the Phantasy Philly game.

Maureen, I love the thread titles. Most excellent!

GoOod morning everyone!

There's not going to be much running outdoors for me unless it's on weekends. It's dark when I get up and it's dark when I'm coming home. I just do NOT see well in the dark, I don't particularly like to drive at night either and if it's raining at night, forget it. I'm a hazard on the road.

I did NOT get to run last night as planned. My DS wanted to watch Biggest Loser WITH me so we hunkered down in the living room and watched. I like that he's interested in the health and fitness stuff - I'm hoping DD will come around and get interested as well, but I'm not holding my breath.

Didn't get up early enough to run this a.m. so I'm just going to push all my days back one and instead of resting on Friday I'll run. Just an east one though. I go in at SIX A.M. on Saturday morning for my Wellness Evaluation at the fitness center and they do all kinds of tests to determine my fitness level and ask that you not do any serious workouts the day before. They'll also measure my BMI by weighing me in water. I'm interested to find out the all the results!

Must get a move on. Need more coff-ay.

Happy Trails!

Health and Fitness ... hmmm ...

Fitness: weightlifting for me this morning.
Health: maybe I'll sit down later and plan out a menu for the week.

My knees don't hurt anymore. I think it was simply muscle breakdown and rebuilding. Yea, I'll go with that.

Hey Scratch ... congratulations on your anniversary! Major milestone my friend.

Good morning.

Congratulations, Scratch, on your anniversary.

eccabex - good luck this weekend!

I haven't been around as much as I like lately, but I do have to say I appreciate the 2 threads. I can follow the conversations better when I'm reading them hours later. I'm not sure fun and exercise is really the distinction I appreciate, but more 1 thread being about what's going on with everyone that day and the comments specific to that not getting lost in one liner banter between a couple of people. I love the one liner banter and wish I could participate more, but it's also what gets the thread too hard to read at the end of the day. I realized what I thought hadn't really been expressed by anyone else, so I wanted to throw it out there, for whatever it's worth.

Nothing particular going on here. I'm hoping to get out at lunch for a walk, since my evening is booked.

Have a great day!
I'm going to try to get in a run today. I am probably going to be working late, though, so we shall see. Depends on what time I can get out of the office.

My 5M went well yesterday so hopefully I can duplicate it today. We'll see.
Maybe we should throw a question out there to field everyone's feelings so far on the two thread idea.

I like having two separate threads because now I feel like I can ask my running questions and talk running much more without it getting lost between the other topics, and they won't get as overlooked as they did before. I came here mainly for the running support. I have no one IRL, except you Heather , to talk to about this stuff, so I turn here. Maybe instead of making a separate running thread every day, we can make it a weekly thread. For instance, Running Nov 5-9. And then we can have a daily Fun thread.

I love the Fun thread because I've really gotten to know you guys in those conversations and this is the first time I've ever felt so connected to an online group.

morning!

Got out for 6 yesterday, will do 5+ later, with some speed stuff in the middle.

Today is my Friday -- I have Thurs and Fri off this week. Normally I fly to some tropical location, but I am not going this year. I have decided it would mess up my marathon prep. Sooo many reasons why. I'm ok with my decision, but it sucks to think I'd have my bod on the beach this evening if I went. Sigh, there will be other trips. BUT, that brings up a QOD: What have you given up for running? Can be major, or minor...
