I missed all of yesterday's thread. I will try to catch up later on...but...

I did see about VooDoo's friend. I'm really sorry, man.
I've got nothing to say that hasn't been said more eloquently already.
My thoughts and prayers with his family.
(((Voo)))

I thought it was well worth my time! Yeah, a lot of it is common sense and we all know we should drink water constantly, not try to down a huge bottle before a run. But he explained WHY you shoud eat a certain percentage of carbs, why protein before a race can't help at that point (for shorter races), why certain sugars are better than others. So maybe it is the science geek in me but it made sense from a biological point of view and for me, that makes it easier to follow guidelines becasue I know why they exist! Solar any other thought on it?!

He is giving another clinic next week but it is in NJ, might be too far for you to travel for it but I can keep you posted if he does any more!

Prae - I just had a "fat kid" thought this morning ....or was it last night. I was having a hard time running and I was thinking "man, someone is going to be seeing this and thinking, 'look at that fat girl trying to run'". yeah, one of those days for me too.

FYI: I think you rock

Heading to NYC in a few minutes.

So sorry to hear about you buddy Voodoo - my condolences.

Lora and Lori were together in the same room and nobody told me? Sheesh!! It would have only been a 4 hour drive....

Thanks for hugging my nether region Shannon - I was wondering who that was.

ETA: Add me to the Katholeenie smile fan club.

Ok - I'll try to report from NYC.

Good runs to all.

Moe, at this point you have gotten a whole lot more advice , but my answer is to not add in a 4th day. I would crosstrain or take a long walk if I felt like I needed more activity.

Maureen listen to Nettie on the 4th day. Pacer is spot on about the walk breaks too.

Didn't catch the sad news when I posted y'day, but prayers going out for Voo, his friend, fiancee and family.

Katholeenie, WOW! If the energy from that smile of yours could be harnessed, there would be no energy crisis and not another dinosaur (not dianosaur) would need to die to feed our cars and electrical needs.

Well, add me to the list of people that could really use a lottery win to get away from a job that is mostly teh suck. Except for things like getting tix to tomorrows D-Backs game . I think DW is going to join me. She is not sure about sitting for that long with her back and neck problems, but it sounds like she wants to go and give it a try. If she changes her mind, will probably take DS#1 as he can usually handle a late night and not be too cranky the next day (unlike his Dad)

Had a great run last night, got in 3.5 miles in 30 min. Followed that up with a so-so swim this morning - 55 min 1800 meters. I had fun in the pool playing with my new watch. Learning new features w/o the instruction book handy is always a challenge. Nothing else on tap today unless I do a 30-45 min EZ run tonight to make up some of the time from the run I skipped on Monday.

((((((((((((((Prae))))))))))))

I know all about that. All about it. Trust me. I think this group knows me pretty well, I've been around for a long time, some are even close friends of mine now, but I still feel that way all. the. time. I never ever feel like one of the cool kids...doesn't matter if everyone else thinks I am. Unload your troubles when you need to...that's what we're hear for. And if you just can't here, I'm always around, 'k?

Agh! No time! No time!

1

Yes.

Beaker - I agree with your thoughts on the clinic. I thought it was helpful. I'll come back later to add to that.

Gotta run -- kids are back from lunch.

Thanks for that and thanks to everyone here for their thoughts and prayers. One thing I can say about my friend (his name's Brian, but we call him Keg) is that he resembled that quote. He was one of the people who kept momentos and photos from everywhere he went. I knew him for about the last six or seven years, when he moved from Chicago to Akron. I'm planning on meeting up with another good buddy who was a fraternity brother of his (and how I met him) this evening. All those guys seemed to be really close.

I don't want to drag down the thread, but I'll share one of my favorite moments. Years ago, 2002 I think, after I made it to the semi-finals in a fighting tournament and lost, he said to me, "It's good to know the second baddest-ass in Akron!"

Theia and Maria: I'm gonna run the half. I wouldn't "rock" (that's quoting you, Theia ) the 8k anyway...I'm just not there mentally, I don't know how to race, and I'm not nearly in as good condition as I was when I ran it 2 years ago. I'd rather have a sucky half than a sucky 8k. Better to burn out on a high than a low, right?

Pacer: i have no problem with walking. I do, however, find it much much harder to run 5 walk 1 than...I don't know. I'm gonna try out some variations and see what works best for me. I was doing run 100 steps, walk 50 at the end of the race on Sat. And hell, that won me my AG!

4th day: I'll skip it since a couple of you don't think it's a good idea. I'll walk and I've got tap...that's enough.
