I was going to say something about ramping up the training and racing, after coming off an injury, but

that would make me a hypocrite.

Wednesday - run 14 miles, walk 6

Thursday - run 18 miles, walk x

I agree Fred. Seems Ilene was just hobbling a few days ago and now back full force? Nine lives for sure.

Fred - I am constantly amazed at your mileage.

1 hour ez this morning. 80 degrees and 93% humids. Weather forecast is the same for the next 10 days. Heat index around 105 every afternoon. Tomorrow ez 30 mins with 8 X 20 striders. Saturday 1:10 ez and 1:10 at mp + 15-20 secs. This will be on my hilly course so it will be more difficult. Will have to see how I hold up in the temps. After the race we will end up at the weekend XC meet; so we'll watch the high school kids hammer a while. Our course is one of the toughest in S. TX. and they still run some amazing times.

Hi Simon and FO

Teh sad thing is how slow Ilene is now. That 5.3 race took me 55:20 to complete

Last night, I ran 5 slow miles with the running club.

But you're running, Ilene. Speed will return.

10 miles with 5x1k. From a slope-aided 6:26 to an unfocused 7:00. Mind on task, please, Carefree!

Best part is I decided to take the hilly route home and saw some orcas out in the water. How cool is that?

Good for you Fred to use a life experience to re-evaluate priorities.

Hey SS! With all those days off you take, how come you have to roll around on tennis balls?

Since Sunday, I did 5 slow recovery on Monday. This was really slow, and what embarrassed me was that I was wearing a really cool "Corpus Christi Road Runners" red singlet. Believe me, I didn't look like ksrunnr that day. (And that's what prompted the envelope I sent you John!)

Tuesday 5.5 easy on the dirt, and yesterday 5.5 on the indoor track at easy pace. Today it was very steamy after all this rain, so my RP and I did 10.2 fairly slow miles.

Plan now is 4 recovery tomorrow and a fiveK on Saturday. Spareribs

Don't be out there 'dissin' the singlet in public Ribs! lol

Nice workout SS

:) That's what I was teasing you about Ribs. :)

4.25 ez moh this morning. Tomorrow 2:20 min run scheduled. 1st half fairly ez and 2nd half mp + 15-20. If I can come close to that in these conditons I'll be happy.

Nice running, SS.

And as usual Fred is doing crazy mileage and Ksrunr cruisingfaster thanmy race pace, oh well!

like Ilene, I have to hope speed will return. I am noticing the darkness come much earlier in the evening, by 8:00pm the sky is black.

Ran 6.7 miles with run club on Wednesday, 20 minutes cycling on Thursday, 3.4 miles tempo tonight. Well, 8 min miles qualify as tempo pace for a 5k these days. Longer runs planned for this weekend. My longer term goal is to run a spring marathon.

Simon.

17.25 miles of hills this morning starting at 5 a.m. 81 degrees and 93% humidity. I think in good weather and a flatter course I would have been close to 19 miles so okay with the workout.

Ran in the soup today, very warm and humid, but I was happy with my time given that I hadn't pointed to this race. I figured I would run 8's but ended up running the fiveK in 7:55's, or 24:33. Won my AG too. 2 mile w/u and 2 mile c/d gave me 7.1 miles for the day and another 50 mile week. Hoping to run long and slow tomorrow. Spareribs

Yeah Simon, the day is getting dark earlier here too, what's up with that? Thursday night the streetlights came on before I was done running....when I was a kid, that meant I had to go home.....

Ran 18 miles today....I'm using that old standby..'increase again by half" 8, 12, 18

18 miles?? Holy carp, Ilene, that seems like a hugh jump in mileage. Be careful!

My 13.6 mile run today, a repeat from last Saturday, was a so-so success. I made it up to the top in better time, but the out-and-back was rife with big puddles, one of which made me have to walk around through the bushes. It was huge! I'm not going to soak my shoes in mud just to get through this course, damn it! So I told DH again we need to take the truck up there with spade shovels and make some drainage ditches. Anyhow, I was 30 seconds or so faster up to the top, then a slower out-and-back (due to those damn puddles) and a slightly slower trip down the hill due to my eyes watering so much, I couldn't see where I was going! Had to slow down for the roots and stuff. Oh well. It's good to get another trip on the worst part of the course.

Afterwards, I went berry picking for over an hour. Got almost a gallon of low-bush cranberries. Might be enough to make a batch of cranberry sauce (otherwise known as that lingonberry jam) so a good start. I found out from DS2 that DH was worried about me because I was gone longer than he thought I should be. Awww... not that he'd ever admit that to me.

I am humbled by all of you- Ribs racing exploits after what happened two years ago, and everyone else for the long runs and weekly totals you consistently run. I managed a hilly 10.7 on Sunday after a bike ride on Saturday, felt tight in the quads afterwards. I used A535 and was amazed to find it no longer has that characteristic smell, however it still works, the legs feel much looser today.

Phooey Simon. You're running well yourself. Don't be overly impressed. lol

80 mins early this morning. Sightings included four heron and 5 homeless (4 of whom were still asleep). Imbedded 4 X .75 mile at 8k pace with 2 min recoveries. Didn't quite make pace this morning and hoping still that it's the heat and humidity. Only 5 weeks out from race and looking for a cold front.

Only 6 days out from my race (counting today) and hoping the "heat wave" holds! Last week's long range forecast of clear sunny skies and temps in the 60's is holding true, with the possibility of temps into the 70's the next couple of days. The bottom could fall out after this weekend, but haven't heard if that means Saturday, Sunday or Monday is when we'll get colder temps. I'm hoping for Sunday at the earliest.

10 mile tempo run yesterday afternoon, averaged 7:55 on a hilly route from home to campus to retrieve my car. DS1 drove it back to campus after dropping off a pile of laundry at the house.

Rest day today. Gotta go get the stupid "check engine" light checked out on the aforementioned car.

5 days and counting Erika

1 hour ez this morning. Still very humid and warm but fortunate this morning to be under cloud cover the whole run. Sun is out beating down now however.

Good day all.
