18 miles?? Holy carp, Ilene, that seems like a hugh jump in mileage. Be careful!

My 13.6 mile run today, a repeat from last Saturday, was a so-so success. I made it up to the top in better time, but the out-and-back was rife with big puddles, one of which made me have to walk around through the bushes. It was huge! I'm not going to soak my shoes in mud just to get through this course, damn it! So I told DH again we need to take the truck up there with spade shovels and make some drainage ditches. Anyhow, I was 30 seconds or so faster up to the top, then a slower out-and-back (due to those damn puddles) and a slightly slower trip down the hill due to my eyes watering so much, I couldn't see where I was going! Had to slow down for the roots and stuff. Oh well. It's good to get another trip on the worst part of the course.

Afterwards, I went berry picking for over an hour. Got almost a gallon of low-bush cranberries. Might be enough to make a batch of cranberry sauce (otherwise known as that lingonberry jam) so a good start. I found out from DS2 that DH was worried about me because I was gone longer than he thought I should be. Awww... not that he'd ever admit that to me.

Only 6 days out from my race (counting today) and hoping the "heat wave" holds! Last week's long range forecast of clear sunny skies and temps in the 60's is holding true, with the possibility of temps into the 70's the next couple of days. The bottom could fall out after this weekend, but haven't heard if that means Saturday, Sunday or Monday is when we'll get colder temps. I'm hoping for Sunday at the earliest.

10 mile tempo run yesterday afternoon, averaged 7:55 on a hilly route from home to campus to retrieve my car. DS1 drove it back to campus after dropping off a pile of laundry at the house.

Rest day today. Gotta go get the stupid "check engine" light checked out on the aforementioned car.

I sure don't make it in here very often. Need to add my ^5 to Ribs for winning the Snuggie. Can't help but feel that's like me winning an icemaker.

Go Ilene! But watch that soreness at the top of the hamstring... that's your sciatic nerve talking to you. If you don't listen to it, it will reach out and bite you during your race. Hard. Been there, done that.

Hi Sans Souci! Hi KS, Simon, FO, Fred and 'Ribs!

My race on Saturday went well I guess. I sure wish I felt better during it... First 10 miles were pretty good, second 10 miles were not. Third 10 miles were a "hang on" type of thing, but I did find enough for a good kick in the last mile and passed about 5 regular marathoners. Final time was 5:06:41 so about a 3 minute PR. Had lots of lessons hammered home (again) on proper fueling/electrolytes during a race like this. Just because it's not hot out doesn't mean you won't need the S-caps that were safely tucked away in my dresser drawer... 'Nuff said.

Ran 4.8 easy yesterday after spending Sunday doing house stuff and picking berries. This morning my foot hurts so I'll be hitting the elliptical at the gym.
