Nice job on all the 20 milers today, guys!

Crane, I think it's normal for everyone have some doubts now and then. Don't let a bad day or a bad week ruin your whole training cycle.

I just did an easy 3.3 miles. The thermometer now says 97, so it's already cooled down a bit. Weather.com says it's 95 in my town, so that's what I put in the log.

This run also put me to 58.0 miles for the week. My old high was 53.6, so that's a pretty big new high. I had half a mind to go a couple more miles to give myself my first 60 mile week, but I didn't because (a) it's hot and (b) this was already a big jump. This coming week will be quite a step down week for me, which will also double as a mini-taper to the New Haven 20k next Monday...

35 days until TCM!

WTH? Did we all run our last 5 miles in the full on sun??

Melis: Chicago, you can let it go now. You analyzed what could have gone wrong and learned from any mistakes. Like throwing away our warm up shit too early. And think of it this way: Chicago was Good Training and Not So Good Race Day. It could be that TCM will = Not So Good Training but Good Race Day! Bizarro marathon!

My confidence and mojo has ebbed and flowed all summer too and I'm trying not to let it wreck all the miles I've put in. Let's not let our heads take away all the work our bodies have already put into this training cycle!! The heat and humidity have just been a huge energy suck - it's hard to feel good about running when you're slogging through your miles. But then there's a random good run that puts pep back in your step. I'm sure that there's a cooler-temperature confidence-boosting mojo-restoring run in your very near future.

P.S. If you're not feeling supported in your running by those around you - just pop in here more often! There's lots of support flowing around here!

Yup, I think all of us long runners today had a wicked last 5 miles.

Melis - right there with you darlin. Even on the Chicago part, but opposite. I had terrible training and an AWESOME race. But for some reason have been "off" since then. I too think I need a break from 26.2. That is why I am continuing to train, but also popping in on shorter races (hey, they are FUN!) and not leaving my whole season up to the marathon.

KP - woo hoo! That is awesome!

Bob - also very awesome! !

Also Melis - I agree it is too early on the paralysis - but it looks VERY likely. He has sustained severe neck injuries (surgery today actually since he can finally breathe on his own). I suspect there will be more info soon. But apparently he is able to communicate that his neck, chest, arms hurt, but feels nothing in his legs despite the fact that they are broken broken broken. :( I pray it is temporary and that the brain injuries will be minimal. That part scares me a lot too - it can take years to determine the extent (and permanency) of that type of injury.

Mindi- keep us posted on his progress. Does he have other siblings or was his kid brother the only one? He and his wife are facing a long road with his recovery, I imagine that they will need a lot of love and support.

Even though I won't be there, I can't believe it is that close. I will get to see Joe 10 days out of those 35. I'll be out there for 8 days starting Saturday a.m. and then he will be here for 2 days before heading on to the Twin Cities.

I'm definitely bummed that I'm going to miss the Bard/Moon tour's Eugene swing. DW and the kids are looking forward to it though! :)

9 miles this afternoon. Heh. It seems that by running roughly every other day I just don't want to do any "short" runs of 3 to 5 miles. I figure that if I can get past the first mile I should take advantage of the opportunity and run for at least an hour. That reminds me, I really should put my foot in a bucket of ice water pretty soon.

Great job on all of those long runs (and long weeks Bob!). I think there are going to be some pretty impressive fall marathon and half marathon results forthcoming from the group, keep up the good work (even if it does get tedious at times)... I wish I was going to be racing alongside you!

I can't believe we're only six days out from our opening home football game at Autzen. Yikes!

Check out this beauty!

The photo rotated and I can't seem to fix it... I don't typically chafe in this area (inside of legs) so I didn't lube it up for yesterday's run. I also wasn't expecting to have such a bad run -- one that should have been done almost a full hour before it actually was. My sweat-soaked shorts rubbed this leg raw over the last 7 miles of my run/walk. I put about an inch of Vaseline on it today for a short 3 miler and will do the same again for tomorrow's 5 miler... Kind of cute how it looks like a heart, but it still hurts. Ouch! doesn't even begin to describe it.

Hey all - my group's fantasy football draft always runs ridiculously long, but I managed to sneak in 800 m swimming. I felt I had to get SOMETHING in, after all the beer and generally dayum tasty (but not-so-healthy-for-you food) I noshed on all day long.

Great job all of you who got in the workouts, especially those of you who went long - you deserve a huge . I think 20-mile group ended up suffering a similar fate the final five miles - during yesterday's run, I ran out of water myself after mile 16 and I basically had no shade after that, and the sun was in full high noon effect those last few. I'm glad I walked the final mile as a cooldown - my legs are feeling relatively fresh today all things considered.

Mindi - keep us updated; we're all hoping for the very best

cherl - yikes! That looks painful. Heal up well!

I know...bummer that we can't see you while we're out there duck - I've been thinking about you a lot, with ESPN running that Oregon Duck mascot ad quite a bit lately (I imagine that's how you kinda' feel with all the work you're putting in)
