5k for me in a few hours. Not racing, but hoping to at least do better than last year. I know we have several peeps with LR's today. Kick ass on those, folks!

I'm in for 5K too. Woke up the boys to bring them along and they are both crabby and not wanting to run. Ugh. First time they didn't want to join me for a race. I'm bummed. Hopefully they'll change their minds. Otherwise, I'm on my own this morning.

Good luck Allaire and RIL, and to all the other 30s racers out there. And hopefully all of you long runners get 'er done too. I finished a beYOOtiful 9 miles this morning. 50* temps. Not in the 50s, but 50* (according to the weather channel, it was actually 49* when I left). Was :30 per mile faster than my last two 8 milers, and the courses are the same essentially (The 9 is the same as the 8, with one area extended to add the extra mile). I am happy, and I want 50* runs for all!!

Now some work, and then some fall planting, and some yardwork, and dinner with friends. Hopefully I will get in a 4-5 miler tomorrow.

7 this morning for me. That IS a LR for me these days, but I have slightly more patience with myself about that than I did a few weeks ago. I think I'm on my way back to being a runner and I feel great about that.

DSes turned it around and we ended up having a blast! DS#1 is had some fire in his belly and was the first kid finisher at 27:10. DS#2 and DH were more leisurely and finished at 35:xx. My race went better than I had expected, although I lost focus and slowed down during mile 2. For some reason I always do that. Course was flat and mostly shady, although it finished up a big, long hill. Came in at 21:34, which was good for 3rd place female. Gotta love small races. We are going back down for awards at 11:30 - DS#1 is jazzed about his big AG win and PR!

Congrats to Runninlaw and family!

Nice run, Litch!

I had a nice 21.4 mile run. (Same route I did two weeks ago). My pace was very consistent throughout, with most miles in the 8:50s. My fastest mile was #20 (at 8:41) and my overall pace was 8:58. I'm quite happy with that. My legs feel really beat up now, so I think I'm off to take an ice bath...

Congrats to RIL family...sounds like a good morning at the races.

Litch - if you figure out how to lock all runs in at 50 let me know. Good work.

boB - way to knock out the long run. when's your next 'thon?

Well, I met up with my group for our long run this morning. Even with the cooler weather, will still started at 5:00am and humidity was up for the first hour. Ended up with 24 miles even in 3:24:02. Felt strong at the end. That's good for the marathon in three weeks. It's taper time now.

Ooo sounds like good running and racing from youse guys so far today!

6 pretty tough miles for me this morning. I'm not feeling super optimistic about tomorrow's 20 miler. I'm adjusting medications and my thyroid seems out of whack, several heart pounding episodes last week and when I run I feel like my cardiovascular system is just in overdrive. Hills that were easy are now difficult and leaving me more winded. And my legs are feeling d.e.a.d. I hit my six miles and walked a 1/2 mile home and felt ok. Then I climbed the stairs and oof! I felt all winded and my legs felt so fatigued! I might borrow my sisters Garmin tomorrow, hers has the heart rate monitor. I'd be interested to see where my heart rate is at. Though that strap might drive me bonkers.

Also on today's run I got pegged in the side of the head by a large buzzing insect which caused me to set a new world record in the Jump and Shriek category.

Off to shower, pack and head to LaCrosse.

Happy trails all!

boB - that is a fabulous long run! Nice work! Now go rest.

Yeah to RIL's DS and the rest of the family (and you!). Fun stuff.

BigG - I have 20 tomorrow too, so I'll virtually run it with you. I'm nervous about it - haven't run that far since Illinois. I have to figure out a plan on where to do it and get it done early before it's hot.

I got 5 recovery miles done today with the new shoe insert things in. Felt pretty good, but I was definitely slower than normal. Could be the cookies and beer from last night.

Howdy again, folks.

The 5k was fun this AM. Going to events solo is still very strange to me, but I found some folks to hang out with pre and post-event. Today wasn't a PR, but I knocked about 30 seconds off of my time from the event last year, so I'm happy with that course record.

Tomorrow I have 10 on tap, so I'll be out there with you BigG and RFTL.

PS. I may be asking my body for a beat-down, but I'm now signed up for three local HM''s. One in Sept, One in Oct, and one on Thanksgiving Day. This is either a great thing for me, or an act of stupidity. I'm not sure which at this point.

Happy feet, everyone!

Congrats Ailarie!

Nice runs out there peeps!

BigG - I swear I can completely relate. Try to figure out what is going on - whether thyroid, low iron, any vitamin deficiency, etc. As I mentioned before, I never figured out conclusively what was going on with me, but adding (1) iron supplement; (2) b-12 supplement (which had been recommended before; and (3) electrolyte push, have made me feel like a new person this week.

I am in on the virtual 20 miler too. First "long" run for me in a LONG time.

Sucky news around here generally. My sister stopped by last night and one of her friends died this week. He was a farmer and was wet in the barn - touched something live and was instantly electrocuted. Complete freak accident. His wife found him. He was 44 and left behind 3 teenage kids. Then today while I was at a fundraising event for a board I am on, DH texted me that one of his friends was in a car wreck - he was the only survivor, but is in ICU and is fully messed up. He lost his parents and kid brother in the accident. Thank God his wife was not there as well. The driver that ran a light and caused the accident also died.

Hug those you love tight peeps. And be thankful. I know I am.

Hi all - well, wasn't going for a 20-miler, but I got that distance in in combo form. Just eked out 19 miles just as I hit 3 hours, but decided that was it for the running (why did I even bother to listen to the weatherman - cool and cloudy my a$$!) but I got in one extra mile while walking during the cool down to get to that 2-0 figure.

Congrats to you and your family RIL (sorry to hear about your sister's friend, tho') and Ailarie on your races! Great run boB - based on that performance, you're set to do some good things at Twin Cities. And solid efforts to the rest of you out there

I've got my 20 mile route plan in place. I was going to drive to the trail head here in LaCrosse but SeesterGoon said it's 5 miles to run there so I'll run 5 there and then 5 out and back on the trail and 5 home. That way I'll get more variance in elevation which I think may be better for my legs. Goon has been known to be mistaken about her routes tho, I had a 12 miler to do here once and she directed me to a shady road with a wide shoulder to run in which was actually neither of those things.

I skipped the wine and beer and I tried do a good job of fueling tonight but Goon introduced me to these Kettle Cooked Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper potato chips. swoon. The extra salt will be good for me on my run tomorrow, right?

And I busted out my new pair of shoes and SuperFeet for my run tomorrow.

Time to go jammie up and get ready for bed.

Virtually see you out there tomorrow morning Mindi, Cindi and Elizabeth! Effortless Comfortable Happy Running Vibes!

HELP!

My 20 miler this morning was a disaster. The first 13 miles were consistently an 8:50 pace and I was feeling great. The next 4 miles were a mix bag and definitely slower. I felt like I had absolutely nothing to give by mile 15 but managed to push on. At mile 17, I was experiencing cramping in my calves so badly that even walking was painful. I stopped to stretch and did what I could to alleviate the pain but they were super tight and the discomfort was really felt from the bottom of my feet all the way up to my butt. I haven't experienced this before and don't know what could have caused it. I hobbled those last 3 miles back to my car. It was ugly.

A friend thinks I wasn't getting enough electrolytes so she gave me a salt tablet (?) when I finally finished my "run". She suggested I start using them for long runs. The weather was cool today (65*) and we ran along 101 the entire time so we were getting cool breezes off the ocean. It wasn't a difficult route. I really should have had a great run today. But I didn't and I'm so bummed about it.

Any thoughts? Do you use the electrolyte tablets (is that what they are?) during your longer training runs? Marathon is 5 weeks from today.

yeah, try endurolytes (I have both the horse pills and the powder that i mix into my G). i try to kick up the electrolytes sometimes just before a LR or nasty race and it does help. salt tabs or other multi-electrolyte formulas work. it's important to increase (slightly) the salinity in your stomach so it can/will absorb the fluids. that's my theory anyway - and it has worked for me.
btw - i'm gonna be in your neck of the woods (in SD) in a few weeks. any chance you wanna connect for a run/drink, run & drink? shoot me a pm.

how do i respond to that???

the scale isn't so nice to me these days. maybe you should aspire to get to that duck figure or something. speaking of which, i should probably trade the chocolate covered peanuts/pretzels for good old bananas for my snacks. i seem to be eroding with my food choices lately. really been eating like an a-hole lately.

well my LR got shorted out a bit too. i was fixing for ~14 or 16 and it got late - post b-day party, fix my fishing pole, etc so i managed to grind out 12 miles. it hurt and it wasn't pretty but they're done. also, i couldn't do the spartan run today....sorry moon. i was on solo dd duty at the b-day party and ended up leaving 1/2 hour after the last wave for the race took off so i missed out. shit. was really hoping i could work it in and do something a little crazy for a workout.

i'm in trouble for RTB...not nearly enough mileage under my belt. guess i'll have to revert to the 'Need More Beer' race plan.

well done on those runs today - 20, 7, 9, etc. really well done! and go get 'em on the long 'uns tomorrow.

goon...

that's all. just hoping things work out for you.

sorry i haven't been around much. too much ka-ka going on these days.

off to go lobstering tomorrow. maybe some fishing for cod/haddock.

cheers!
