Morning all! Nice work getting out this morning to you a.m.'ers - I wasn't one of them. Decided while I was getting ready for work that I'm going to aim for a bedtime 15 mins. earlier tonight and try to ease into an eventual 30-45 min earlier bedtime. Gotta get back on that morning running track. So probably 10 or so mi planned for post-work.

Baggs & Brandy - fantastic job to you all on the relay!!! Your doctor buddy Chris can really lay down the miles, is he running a fall marathon this year?

I'm def. game for another relay next year.... you name the place! We're only a few weeks out from RTB now and I'm getting majorly pumped!

Missy - now don't go using the stick on your aching parts

QOD - I'm with Baggs, I like the gradual climbs as they're easier to pace and beat you up less. I like to envision myself almost spilling up over the hills and back down again.

Class was fine. I'm probably technically old enough to be the instructor's mom, so it will be interesting to see what kind of career advice she gives me. There were several freshman in the course, but also a lady at least a decade older than me. I think it will be a good first course back. No doubt I can get an A, but not easily enough that I'll goof off too much!

Ailarie I use a Chariot to run with my girls. It has big bike type tires and handles rough terrain really well. Two big wheels in the back, a smaller one on the front. It even goes through sand really well. That said, it's not recommended to use with babies under 6 months of age. You have to wait til their little necks are strong enough for it. And even then, they make this little sling type harness deal that you can use with them to keep them even more comfy and cradled so they don't bounce around a lot.

QOD: I'm in the gradual-hill crowd. Steep ones drain too much out of you...

Bob strollers: I've never taken mine on anything but pavement, so I don't know how it would handle off-road.

Ragnar New England: This is the one from New Haven to Boston, right? I'd definitely do it, since those are two towns I've lived in. But I'd love to get this figured out before too long. It's the weekend of my 40th birthday, and if I don't do this, I think I'm gonna try my own 40-mile run. Can't do both, so I want to know which one to plan for...

That's my last leg of the Cascades Lakes Relay. I guess that's a long steep hill! I got into a groove and got faster with each mile, so I guess long and gradual suits me better than short and steep.

Oh, fwiw, the veloroutes.org elevation profile creator is a great tool for those times you don't have your garmin with you...

Hi all - 5.5 miles yesterday really late in the day. First heatwave we've had this year - it was still low 90s at 6:30 PM yesterday. Supposed to be hotter today, but today (thankfully) is only a strength training day.

Missy! So good to see you! Rest up well (you definitely had the hardest workout of this weekend) and can't wait to see pics of Allie Kate

Good luck on that swim Tonya!

Nice runs already folks - way to get at it

QOD - it depends; in a faster (and generally shorter) race, I'm hurting anyway, so I'd rather see a short steep hill rather than an elongated climb over a half-mile or longer. On a slower-paced race, give me the gradual climb.

Yes he can. He started to date a girl who actually runs FASTER than him (she set the Fargo HM record back in may at 1:17:56) so I think that has helped quite a bit.

He's doing Chicago this year. He is hoping to run a 2:35. He ran a 2:50 last year. This kid has some serious potential if he wasn't becoming a doctor. He's being trained by Jack Daniels this year.

I think they have creams or pills or something for that...

So they just did some sort of an update to the site and I lost my post. No new smileys, yet, though Wonder if my BB will work with the update...

Anywho, good to see/hear from ya, Missy! Did Alessandra go running yet? j/k!

I set out for 8 mi this morning, starting with about 3/4 mi barefoot on the ballfield. That was fine, and most of the run was fine, but by mile 6 my achilles was hurting. Stopped at 7.5 and walked the last .5 home. Had an ART appt afterwards, and the doc hurt me bad, but thinks since my leg was feeling good the past 5 days or so that we're on the upswing. Hope so.

Funny, moonie - we've got your weather now and you've got ours. 68-72*, grey, misty today.

QOD: I like short and steep. That way I can plow up them full speed to get it over with. There are too many gradual inclines around me and I hate them!

Fun stuff - 102 degrees in my town right now. Low 90s here in SF - these fog-addicted folks are practically melting now I imagine.

Usually mocha frappes are too sweet for me, but this one I got today at a non-chain place for lunch because of the hot weather - it is nicely chocolaty and not overly sweet

I did an easy 3.7 miles this evening. But I think this pair of shoes have hit their limit. They've got 433 miles on them, and I felt it in my legs a bit today. Good thing I've got like 3 more pairs with fewer miles...

Evening all! Caught some nice miles, 13.5 in all, with another local running buddy, Amy. Good convo kept the miles flying by as we ran the lower perimeter of Manhattan - nice and cool conditions here too. Me likey!

QOD: training - long and graudual; racing - short and steep - gets 'em out of the way. I was just thinking that during the Madison Minin last weekend. There was a silly steep hill, but it was short. And I thought, not bad. :)

oooo grouchy. I didn't get my 10 mile run in tonight. I think I'm going to go to bed at 8:30 and aim for an early morning 10 miler. HAH! We all know how that works out for me, right?
