Since, once again, the weather in Victoria (bright and beautiful) does not align with that peculiar corner of hell that appears to be a specific part of suburban New York, I'm going to go out on a limb here and note a recovery day that included a long walk on the beach and restorative meditation at the seaside for a while.

If anyone would rather, the mods can let me know and I'll wait for a thread with a more appropriate title in the future.

awwww don't stand on ceremony. If you don't like the title of the post just suggest a new one and I will be happy to change it.

I for one am happy it's hot hot hot. It's summer for cripes sakes. Way better then shoveling snow and deciding how many layers to wear outside.

Hally, I like it hot too. The moister, the better. Really.

My dad had a saying about northern New Jersey/metro NYC weather: "If you don't like today's weather, wait until tomorrow, you'll have different weather." Well, it worked in Yiddish, what do I know?

Happy birthday Opie

5 miles in a downright chilly 48°F here in southern Oregon at 2PM. Feels like freezing rain, hell maybe snow, at any moment.

Nice video ribs. I like that song too.

The amount of empties in that picture looks like a typical day for me prior to 1987.

Happy belated birthday Opie!

19.7 miles this morning with some at sub MP and enough salt on my face for a nice facial scrub. Jumped in my neighbor's pool (yes, invited to do so) and then plowed into breakfast soon after. Perfect morning!

Very nice video.

How did BTY do at the Empire State Games??!

Winejunky, La Tortuga has a friend who is the wine purchaser for their local wine store. Great gal. She joined us for the party...her taste of wine is superb. Great to see that your running is going well.

Wondering about BTY too, CNY. Terrific run!

Thanks for switching things up, Ribs, tomwhite, Opie, mari. And you cutie, wj. We are such a diverse and creative group, I hanker for the CR days when there was poetry and stories (oh PBJ, where art thou?) and Dark Horse stirring the pot from time to time. No one remembers the weather wimpery, not to say it's a bad thing to post now and again.

I love that hugging vid (although kd lang really shows how to rock that song), esp the woman who dances off after her hug. winejunky and Opie, Johnny, prepare thyselves for a Canadian bear hug. SOOON!

Two of my favourite men, mari, you lucky woman you! Your hair looks terrific!!! I love it that length and style. (Heh, must be the HHH!)

hally, you know it, with the bottles. Pro coerced me into more I can handle when I was in Boston. You witnessed it. Nice ride, girl!

tomwhite is rocking it!

I demand RUN OF THE DAY honours. No, it won't be on distance or speed, but pure wildlife awesomeness.

Went out in the oppressive Victoria heat and blue, blue sky. Same route as yesterday. Along the waterfront. And what do I see in Gonzalez Bay?

A GRAY WHALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of people had stopped to gawk. It was impressive. Gabbed with a couple from Colorado on motorbikes. He may have been bigger than the gray. I kid not.

Anyway ...

7.7 miles, a few hills, 8:09 ... last k at 7:21

90' vinyasa before that. I have no idea why, but I seem to run well after yoga. Hoo boy, those eagle pose crunches are tough!

The Gray, SS? Whoot!!!!!

Best wildlife sighting on a run EVER!!!

Hi MS! Sorry girl, but you need a better excuse than that!!

I, too am looking forward to hearing from BTY.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! That's cool about the whale, SS. I played softball tonight and probably shouldn't have. The coach was worried about my PF and I let him rotate me out near the end.

Checking in from the road (the last 1000-mile RT to Idaho for awhile). SS, you saw your whale! It was just this week that you had regretted not seeing him/her yet. Pure awesomness!

Sorry for the typos

the bunch of you are making me laugh today -- only regret is I cannot see the videos. HB to Opie!!!

whale of a run ss.

we ran a tough workout on our labor day race course. 12.5mi with 5mi at tempo, conveniently chosen to be on the hillest parts of the course. 2mi, 3min rest, 2mi, 3min rest, 1mi. ran 7:40 pace for the first 2 miler which was up a sheer cliff, second was rolling hills at 6:45, and last was rolling, mostly up at 6:43. tuesday's normal speed workout is an ez run, so today was supposed to be a "key" workout. back in 2 and 4 weeks, to prepare for the race 6 weeks from tomorrow.

followed it up with 16mi cycling... mostly easy... on the same race course (two laps, race is 8mi).

was aiming for 16 run and 24 ride, but i just don't have that level of fitness right now, dangit.
