Did a hot sticky spin class with DH; now I have vacuuming on tap. After that -- it's Miller time!

There were a couple of runners who collapsed at a local race yesterday morning, due to the HHH. Be careful out there, folks.

Morning Riley (It's still barely morning).

8.1 miles this morning. The last 2 weeks have been tough running - all feel heavy legs. I was hoping my Cape Cod miles would have been better since there were no hills . . . but, nope. So, now after vacation, I'll have to straighten out my diet (some) and drop the few vacation pounds that seemed to sneak on even with running.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Morning all,

I met Opie at the lake near his house this morning for a loop around it (13.8 miles). A very warm and humid run.

Happy Birthday yesterday to Opie!

Opie, we were wrong in our discussion of age groups this morning. I'll bump up an age group 3 weeks before you move up next year, no AG competions for us.

Thank goodness we have Riley to tell us how uncomfortable it is out there or I would never notice.

18 this morning at a steady but not very fast pace, barely under 10's. I ran 5 yesterday at a pretty good clip so I went into this one mildly tired. Very pleased with it because my only tough mile was the final one and that was probably all in my head.

For the record, the weather down here is not always bad. Down where KS is, there is a lot of humidity and he is much farther south, so he really gets beat up, but we have quite a few decent days. I started at 6:20 and it was 77 degrees. Let me tell you that 77 degrees is ice box temps down here, so I was pretty comfortable. It's over 90 now of course. In TX the tough part is often the sun. We get very clear skies a lot and that will send you scurrying for the shady side of the street if there is one. Spareribs

Yeah, thanks Susan for letting us know it is H&H. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Hope everyone's enjoying this nice Summer Weekend!

I had a tough warm run this morning. Much like Holly's run yesterday. 83° and 65% and not a breath of wind. 15.4 miles at a slow 9:30 pace. Drained 4 fuel belt bottles - twice - drank water for 2 minutes at a Wal-Mart at mile 11 and still lost 5 to 6 pounds of water weight. This one felt like 20 without being 20 so I guess that's good.

Time for a cutback week after 5 straight weeks of growing the weekly mileage - 26.2, 34.5, 40.3, 45.2, and now 46.4.

Thanks for noticing Ribs & Byll!

Actually, it's really unusual for the heat & humidity to persist this long here in suburban NY. We usually get 15-20 days like this all summer, but instead it's all been clumped into the past 3 weeks straight. Between the HHH and the air quality, long stretches like this really devastate people with pulmonary problems. I only have mild asthma but I've seen so many ambulance calls for shortness of breath in dozens of elderly people who normally do fine. I have a lot of trouble with cardio in weather like this and I've had heat exhaustion twice over the past 10 years. It's just flat out dangerous. I get a little nervous when I see that some of you do 15+ miles but I strongly suspect you're better conditioned and better accustomed to these weather conditions than me. Certainly you're more experienced.

Pink, the Cape food is worth a few extra pounds and I bet they don't show on you.

Happy Belated Bday Opie.

45 miles with a really good group. We hadn't planned that much but we did a little extra to Crab Meadow beach. 3 went straight back from there the rest of us stopped at a bakery then headed back.

5 24 Oz bottles in the body and one on the body. Off to the pool.

Thanks, Paul and Hally! You know, Paul, there wouldn't be much competition going on between us anyway. Our run today was quite an adventure with some very pesky horseflies trying to bite and sometimes succeeding. I feel more than a year older. Need a nap and to tape my foot.

How did I miss Opie's birthday?? Hope it was happy!

7.5 miles in the park today. Wore the fuel belt and sipped a bit at each mile, though a bit more frequently as I got to the end of the loop. Ended up finishing 3 out of the 4 bottles by the end of my run, including the cooldown by my car. And it's a good thing I drove to the park today, since as soon as I got in the car to drive home, the skies opened up, with windswept sheets of rain coming down. All that humidity's got to go somewhere, I suppose.

Ribs is lively today - must be the heat & humidity. That parody BYU did of the Old Spice commercials is hysterical and has been burning up the library listserves. You're in the library with the MAN your grades could be like... the actor nails it but he is wearing far too much clothing (IMHO). Loved the free hugs video. As Gandhi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

Great photo of Mari and the Boyz. Looks like a good time.

I cranked out the running club newsletter this morning and will go to a gentle yoga class tonight. My legs are feeling rather tight from yesterday's run so it'll be good to do some stretching. Have I mentioned how tired I am of this editor job? I am soooo done as soon as my term is finished. Too much else to do.

My youngest son temporarily moved back home last week and it has been an absolute pleasure having him around. I think he moves back out next weekend and I will miss him.

7.2 slow miles of trail with my training partner this morning. Temps are lovely now after yesterday's rain, but will be getting back into the HHH territory later in the week. We ran thru a huge patch of ripe raspberries, lost a bit of skin in the process, but stopped to eat a few. After going home, showering and having breakfast, I took DH back there to pick a couple of bowls for dessert tonight. Yum!!!

Ribs,

Thanks so much for sharing, I'm sitting here with puppy dog tears falling off my cheeks. Isn't this how the world should be? Just checking my sources and I do believe when we met, we shared a hug, correct?

I haven't posted on the daily in over a month because, by the time I get here later in our Pacific day, the thread is inevitably titled with weather conditions that do not apply to my particular location on the planet. I hate to step out of line and post to the wrong thread, so I drift off elsewhere, hoping, someday, that Victoria's weather and that which appears to affect all of the rest of you simultaneously will align.

Since, once again, the weather in Victoria (bright and beautiful) does not align with that peculiar corner of hell that appears to be a specific part of suburban New York, I'm going to go out on a limb here and note a recovery day that included a long walk on the beach and restorative meditation at the seaside for a while.

If anyone would rather, the mods can let me know and I'll wait for a thread with a more appropriate title in the future.
