Maples - welcome back!!! First - proud of you for your progress! I've been there (needing to start all over again from zero, etc.) You set an ambitious plan, and so far you are doing really well with it. I think it's fantastic.

edited to remove extraneous/repetetive advice. Keep at it, Chris!

Smart planning. And a great attitude of know when it is not in your best interests to run whatever # is on the schedule, re-evaluate, and not worry about it.

That is the first time I've done it this way. Feels so much better than fretting over missing a run. I don't know how guys down south run in this. I now know what Jen feels like. It was the record dew point for Minneapolis.

hello all!

got out for 4.17 miles this morning in central park. i am starting to get recognized by some of the regulars there and this morning, one of them stopped to say, "when ARE you going to stop running?" i replied, "i dunno. i'm going to run this baby out" or something like that. i think people assume that its horribly uncomfortable for me to be running out there at 9 months pregs but they don't realize that the only time i sort of feel like myself is when i'm running. oddly enough, i don't feel huge or lumbersome when i'm running which i do when i'm walking. DH says its b/c running is prob a more natural form for me since i run way more than i walk. makes sense, yes?

yah, 36 wks this sunday so anytime now to (hopefully not) 6 weeks to go. really wouldn't mind going in the next 2-3 weeks.

Yay, Missy!!! (and Ms. Bella Good Dog, too!)

Maples, sleep and clean eating will do wonders for your energy levels!!!

Baggs and Brandy, sounds brutal down there. Take it easy in those dew points, that's nobody's friend.

8 miles done this morning. I don't know if that's pushing it a bit too far or not yet, I'll know more tomorrow when I see how the hammy feels. My mind wants to run FAST, my body is far from there yet. So, there will be much more easy peasy breezy running for a few weeks. Gah.

Random QOD since I have way too much time to think about random things while I'm running slow and without traffic to deal with.

What sounds hardest to you (recent PR's--in the last few years)?

1. (2 minutes) 90 seconds off your 5k PR

2. 5 minutes off your half PR

3. 10 minutes off your marathon PR

QOD - Without a doubt, 2 mins off my 5K PR and it's not even that solid of a PR ...speed HURTS! Although 2 mins off would get me a sub-20 which may very well be worth the pain... the key word being "may" :)

QOD - 5 minutes of of my half would be my toughest. I've never focused on a 5K and my marathon PR would probably have been 10 minutes faster if it weren't for the weather when I ran it.

A 70-72 second 5k improvement is roughly equal to a 10 minute marathon improvement (relative to the distance).

Maybe this would be a not quite perfect but more equitable revision to the QOD (I added 10K just for the fun of it)?

1.25 min (75 sec) off your 5K PR

2.5 min off your 10K PR

5 min off your HM PR
10 min off your Marathon PR
I wasn't looking to make it exactly equal relative to the distance because I was trying to factor some other things. With the shorter races, I figure one can have a bunch of shots at a PR during a training cycle. Weather is also less of a factor. With the marathon, you might put in 6 months of perfect training and have one tiny thing off and it's over for another six months or so. If you have a crappy day for a 5k, it's easy to find one in the next week or so. That was kind of my thought process.

3.7 miles on the TM...now off to cut the grass.

QOD: probably the 5 min off HM PR

Gotcha.

Also, the question depends heavily on what your current PRs are.

For me, I'd have to run the following times:

5k - 14:35

10k - 38:00

Half - 1:23:18

Full - 3:01:59

For me, I think the 5k improvement would be the most difficult proposition followed by the half and the marathon with the 10k being the easiest.

*sigh* Only about three more weeks until I can run again....

Hi All -

Hi Maples! Good to see ya. I don't have anything more to add beyond what everyone else has said. Stick with it.

I like how Coach always pops in with technical stuff for us. So lawyerly.

QOD: 5 min off my HM PR would be toughest. The other ones are somewhat soft, so might hurt less.

I didn't run today. I'm recovering from our dinner last night. We ate at Fogo de Chao and holy crap did I eat alot of meat. Enough for 6 people. Seriously. The filet wrapped in bacon was my favorite. Damn that stuff's good.

Might do pilates later.
