Couple of things - New Haven is not really my hometown. It is where boB grew up, so he will probably have better advice here. New Haven is about 45 mins away from me. Been there for several cheerleading competitions, and been to the natural history museum there a bunch of times (part of Yale Univ.). (2) Not planning on running this - other stuff going on pn Labor Day.

Theia - Do what you are comfortable with. Running should decrease the stress in your life, not increase it.

Something you want to tell us about? Was this before you took up running?

HIya folks. Got kicked off on marathon training today, and noticed over double the usual amount of runners along the 7M route, hmmm training for the same race maybe?

QOD: being obsessive, being technical (if someone gets a fact, esp. a science fact, mixed up I MUST correct it), being scatter-brained, being conceited.

Usually I do about 24 this far out from a marathon (7 weeks). So this wasn't too much longer of a run. I really felt good throughout. There was a little fatigue on the climb up Summit after St. Thomas, but that went away quickly. When I went out for seven the morning after, my legs weren't even tight, plus this mornings run felt better than most interval sessions I've had. I'm really hoping for something special this fall. We'll just have to wait and see.

Gah. I had recently lost a toenail on my big toe (which i totally think Myron juju-ed for me by telling me it was inevitable) from a combo of a long downhill run and dropping a cart on it. This is my karma payback for always keeping a topnotch pedicure... anyway, let's just say that there was a little accident and i learned why God gave us toenails in the first friggin place. As my doc put it, I did a grrrrreat job messing it up and am missing the top several layers of skin off the top where the toenail ought to be. yuck. and ow. I can only wear my Birkenstocks right now. Cute as a button, I tell you.....

QOD Being a big kid, being the baby amongst our group of friends, being the fastest reader anyone's ever met, (okay, I take a lot of pride in that one, but sometimes people are a little unrealistic, even for my speed. . .
)

Mornin' all!!

Didn't even get a chance to check in this weekend. I just finished reading the weekend thread and today's stuff. Some damn fine runnin' goin' on around here!

Maples, congrats on finishing the C25k! Loved the photo. Yea, so what is next?

Marier, mighty, mighty impressive! And your running's looking good, too! I wanted to shoot for a 70-mile week this go 'round, but I don't think it's in the cards. That is a ton of miles, chica! And a helluva finish on that 22-miler! Just make sure you line up far enough up front in Chicago and you'll toast that race!

Sara, congrats on the mileage PR! Those milestones are awesome!

Moon, big ups on your 10k PR. Very nice time! Something occurred to me the other day about you. I've met some people here on several occassions and you a couple of times. For some reason, it seems like we've been buddies for years. Don't know why, just seems that way.

EQ, nice work on that 10-mile PR! I'm alwasy in awe of how impressively strong of a runner you are. Good stuff, bro.

Kath, you can tell the DH that the big hairy guy's doing well.

Moe, a big Happy Birthday to your mom!

Theia, I'm kind of in the same boat as Baggs on this one. I can't imagine being concerned for my safety on a run, so it's very difficult to relate. I don't want anything bad to happen to you, so I'd say err on the safe side and avoid the route for a spell.

And speaking of Baggs, 25.5 and still feeling good, eh? Sounds like it's time for an ultra!

I know I probably missed someone or something. Sorry.

Anyway, I got in a little 5-miler Saturday followed by some weights. I'm starting to throw the steel around like days of old and even got a compliment by some young punk at the gym, despite the fact that I'm lifting light right now at higher reps. I love moving to the big-boy rack of dumbells.

Should be a big mileage week for me. Hopefully, it'll be the biggest I've ever done. We'll see. We've got some bad, bad weather right now, thunderstorms and stuff. I wanna get about 10-12 miles in today.

QOD: Wow, one comes to mind that I don't know if I wanna mention. Let's just say I've fallen victim (although I must admit that I didn't exactly put up a fight) to a couple of cougars in my day, and my buddies like to bring up those occassions whenever we're on the beers.

They also bust my balls about talking about running so much.

theia, unless you know all the details about the crime that happened already, there's no way you can be adequately prepared to protect yourself from someone who really wants to do you harm. was a knife used? a gun? i'd like to think that you can kick some evildoer's ass. i'd rather know that you're not putting yourself in harm's way unnecessarily.

worst case scenario if you go - you get hurt or dead. can't take that back.

worst case scenario if you don't - you get grumpy because you're on the treadmill.

are there no other alternatives? think outside the box here. go drive to a friend's house and run from there with a partner... or something.

Is it OK if I say I throw the aluminum around? I'd love to have really huge weights that are actually made out of hollow aluminum so that it LOOKS impressive.

We're getting some new bathroom stuff put in today and the guy asked if we wanted to put the old mirror downstairs with our weights and treadmill and I started laughing. I said "Why the hell would I want to see myself grunting and straining to lift 10 pounds over my head?!" Then I asked if he could install the mirror above the bed - but that might be as big a blow to my confidence as watching myself "throw steel".

I just started remodeling a bathroom yesterday. So, this is a great idea! I just called home and asked DW if we could put that big mirror above our bed. She laughed and then said no. I of course said, you're right, why would we want to watch ourselves sleep?

G'morning all. Well, got a lousy night of sleep last night - had a bit of a stuffy nose, and then got my first official triathlon nightmare. Fun! At least the start of Sunday was good with my longest swim session ever (1800 m).

Random observation: if you wanna' know where all the 'roids Barry Bonds isn't taking now have gone, just check out the studios of comedian Carrot Top. He looked pretty scary being all yoked out like he was during last night's Gene Simmons' Family Jewels.

Kris - congrats on your longest run ever! I don't think the knee issues you got were quite what you expected, though

I hope things have calmed down where you are BigG - that pic you posted looked pretty scary

Maureen - kudos to you on some good running as well, and I'm glad the eBay dealio was nipped just in time. And happy b'day to your Mom! Happy b'day also to TimLH's 4YO also!

EQ - I was working on my CD as well last night. My old college DJ days came back to life as I kept adding, moving, and deleting songs from the mix to try to get some kinda' flow.

Lovin' your new avatar, roo! Have a cold one on me

Sounds promising, PTom - keep us up to date on if you take the offer

Scratch - your fine work has got me wanting to improve that part of my fitness. I just gotta' remind myself to get a pull up bar to install at home

Good seeing you Alicat!

That is weird how that works, eh Voo? When you came down to SF, it was like we'd known each other for years. Also helps that our hairstyles are just so darned similar

Theia - I'd say be overly cautious at least for the short term, especially in that general area. From similar incidents here, I know that the experts say that these folks tend to keep the same general M.O., so hopefully that helps you with your planning.

QOD - I know what I'd tease myself for, but since I don't hang around with enough people regularly to verify whether others would do the same, I'd say the only thing I teased on regularly is the fact that I'm still single after four decades of life.

Probably because you are two of the NICEST, kindest, most wonderful people on earth! And I mean that as a compliment only.

Roo, oooowwww. And ick!

Space, I did email a friend to see if she's interested in running w/ me later. If she's not, and if the weather holds up, maybe I can change my route a bit. The problem is, the assault took place in the NICER part of the park, not the scary part. So I can't even say, "Well, I'll just run in x section and stay away from y section..."

By the way, I love that you guys have such confidence in my crime-fighting skillz!

"SHAZAM!"
"Back off, asshat!"
"Do you know who you are f-ing with????"

(I'm just practicing.)

Brandy - I think it was a few weeks ago that we were all talking about dinners and you typo'd you & DH eat crabs every night. That's what I remembered.

Race shot from Sat. This guy got me at the line.

Theia, you know the route...do you see people when you run? If it's just 3 miles, you might as well run on the 'mill. You'd only be on it for 20 mins anyway.

Sara, I was supposed to do the 3day this summer, but my friends cancelled on me. Then, I'd planned to walk another walk on the Boston Marathon course, but I realized it conflicts with rehearsals. So, no, just walking to walk.

QOD: Um, yeah, I'm a giant dork. And all my friends love to tease me about it.
