my mother's 61st birthday. After such a long and traumatic year, I'm so happy we're still celebrating her birthday and counting her years. The longer she fights her cancer, the longer the docs have to find some new drugs. She's strong...we'll have her around for a while, I think!

I ran yesterday, my long run. 3-ish. I think I was a little shy of 3, but I ran for about 40 mins (I had Penny with me, so I was out for about 45), and I felt pretty good. I'm a little achy today though. I don't think I stretched enough. Rest day today, although I'm planning on walking at lunch...which isn't really rest, but we'll see if I really go.

I slammed my shoulder into our front door yesterday, trying to keep Miss Trixie from darting outside and it hurts. Ouch.

Ebay update: I think I caught everything before it became a problem. I'll keep an eye out though...and I think I'll call my bank and the credit reporting cos to let them know there might have been a breach. My bank stuff has new security measures and different passwords, so I'm thinking it's probably safe.

{{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}} to many of you, esp KJ. Diane, I didn't comment on you being carded, since I wasn't surprised!

Great races and runs this weekend!!! Congrats, esp to Maples!!!!

Have a good one...I'll check back for a qod.

G'morning, Moe. And everyone else, of course. Happy Birthday to Moe's Mom...

Oh well, it's another Monday. Back to the grind...

Hey, the New Haven Labor Day 20k is two weeks from today. There are still a bunch of people going, right? Anybody want to meet up for dinner the night before?

8 mile tempo run planned for this afternoon. It might be a little rainy, but at least it'll be nice and cool. We've had a very cool August so far. I'm not complaining...

Have a great day, folks...

Good morning. Dark and dreary yesterday, looks to be the same again today.

Saturday night, I achieved a sign of progress forward with my strength training to see if I can build up to doing one-armed chinups some day. I pulled myself up with both arms, let go with my left hand and was able to hold myself with my right arm locked in and then slowly let myself descend to the ground. I can't do it quite so controlled with just my left arm yet, but I can do it a bit with the weaker arm too. It's taken me a little over 7 months since I started working on the chinups and pullups to get to this point and when I started out, I could do 3 chinups.

Short is your memory, Bob. Just want to point out the early days of August were hot and humid. It certainly has taken a turn for the better this last week and half though.

Morning!

*sigh* Monday again......... got into a cleaning kick last night before going to bed. Nice to wake up to sparkling clean bathroom and kitchen with laundry and vacuuming done! No running today. It's my off day, so I will be hitting the gym this afternoon for arm weights day and spin with my friend Barbara. Tomorrow, up early for a run. I seriously hope this horrible 95-100+ heat ends very soon. At least for now, it's still forecast for the next 7 days. Sunrise is now after 7, and since I need to be back in my apt. by 7:15 at the latest to even barely get to work on time, it's going to be more and more difficult to keep up these early runs. Plus, I don't like having such a strict time limit.

Maureen glad you caught it early! Hope nothing comes of it. Happy Birthday to your mother, too.

Bob and Scratch- enjoy that nice weather for me, ok??

Alright, time to get ready for work. I'd really rather just go back to sleep!

Back later for the QOD.

Good morning all!

I have an all day work retreat today... Joy o Joy. So no running for me unless I desperately need to blow off steam this evening

Well I have a new training program for ... Philly!! I am still deciding if 13.1 in 13 weeks is too much to handle, but we'll see and maybe see all of you!!!

I did it. 10.3 miles on the tmill yesterday. Longest run ever (prior longest was . Feel pretty good. Legs not really tired, no twingy knee, nothing. Maybe I should have gone further. Don't know if I would have gone the distance if I was outside on the road / trail. Definitely need to work on that.

3 east + strides tonight.

Have oodles of work to do and no desire to do it. Tired only b/c dog was up at 2:30 to go out and did not make it out so spent 1/2 hour cleaning up 2 messes. Ah, this [email protected] prednisone!!!

Maccabeth: Way to go on the cleaning. I alway seem to get in the cleaning / purging (the healthy kind) way at 11p on a Sunday evening. You have to strike while the iron is hot.

Moe: Refresh my memory...are you training for another 3-day walk? Which one? When?

Morning kids -

Moe - Happy Birfday to your Mom. it is my 4 YO's birthday too.

Hope the ebay shanangins are under control - I have had minor issues with that in the past (someone tried to open a cell phone account in my name, and my mortgage holder 'lost' backup tapes with my SSN on it, as well as address, etc.). You can get your credit reports set up so that no 'instant credit' can ever be established. Meaning that there has to be a paper trail. If you go into a store, and they have a deal where you get 20% if you open a credit card, you are SOL. If some other knucklehead does it, it can be a life saver.

KJ - Hope things shake out well for you.

Moon and Dom -speedy. Dom - you were looking for a 40 min 5 M pace a few months ago. You are crushing that pace now.

Got in my 10 K this AM. Last week ended up becoming a recovery week - so I am stepping it back up this week. Hopefully cracking the 40 mpw barrier. We will see.

My real posters... Montgomery Hall of Fame, Sojourner Truth, Malcom X, Fred. Douglass, Cezar Chaves, History got it too Straight, and To every boy/girl will be in shortly.
Moe: Tell your mom i said, 'give em hell'

Scratch: Thats cool. I like chin ups and dips. They make me feel like a stud.

KJ: Really, I've got more to say about this if you want to hear it...but for now here are my words of wisdom (yeah, I'll wait for you to stop laughing... ) sometimes you need a cheerleader, but other times you need a plan.

QOD: What do your friends tease you about?
The things heard around me typically are (and there's a lot, as it seems i'm odd....):
*you know mandy like shiny things
*you know that girl just wanna be walkin everywhere
*you know mandy wanna eat at the tofu hut or some such shit
*you know mandy a dipper and don't like her dressing on her salad
*you know mandy don't like cold drinks
all of these are also typically followed by: 'cuz she weird like that'

Hey, all--

I've been a busy little bee with dissertation writing and job market prepping, so I've been MIA from the site. I haven't been able to catch up with everyone's goings on, so I hope all is well. Sending hugs to those who need them.

Though it's been a struggle to get out of bed, I've been keeping up with my running in preparation for my 5k this coming weekend! My longest distance is still 2.75 miles downhill, but I'll gut it out. My legs have just been sooooo tired, which is strange because I'm not doing much with them other than running 3x per week. Ah, well, I have a forced two-week break coming up at the beginning of September, so hopefully they'll feel better after that.

Well, off to more dissertation writing. Hope everyone has a great day!

So, I got up and did 9 miles with 4 at HM pace. It felt ok and I ended up with it all done in just under 1:20. Yawn. I am super tired now. We must get a chaise lounge at work for nappy nap time.

QOD: hmmm....I get teased that I am too serious, a wee bit of a dork..stuff like that.

Good morning everyone. I got some unexpected encouragement this morning. I looked in the mirror and did a double take. "Am I slimmer in the waist? Can't be. I just weighed and I am still stuck on the same scale weight". So I go get the measuring tape. Sure enough I have lost a solid inch where you place the tape directly on top of the belly button and go around. The waistline measurement was smaller but not an inch smaller but that's ok! Instead of constantly weighing myself each week and not seeing any progress perhaps I need to look in this other area for inspiration and confirmation that there are positive results.

My sister had told me a few weeks ago that she could tell I lost weight. She mentioned it a few times and I kept telling her that "haven't lost an ounce, I weight the same I did at Christmas". But oh well, perhaps the scale doesn't tell the whole story. Maybe I need to weigh and measure my waistline once a month to get a better read on my progress.

Thanks for the kind words about completing c25k. I am going to look over the one hour runner printout. That may be where I am leaning. It's good timing in a way because it should be getting cooler by the time I get very far into the program.

i ran yesterday with lil sis. 3.5 - with a couple minutes of walking in the middle. all the driving i've been doing, topped by camping, has my back in a not-so-happy state. today my legs feel great. i believe that was my kickoff to the fall running season. tis my favorite season.

yesterday's weather was the perfect reason to make my special pasta salad and some homemade sweet bread and curl up on the couch with my dog in front of the window with a book. cooooozy.

how's everyone? anything significant going on around here? wattup, chicken butts? will think about the QOD. but some of you could provide answers for me faster than i can...

Hey. I have an interview today and I'm freaking out by sitting in my drawers doing nothing. It's at 1 PM. I wish it could've been for earlier.

QOD: I don't hang around enough people on a regular basis to answer this.

moon - Great job on the PR this weekend. Nice running. And thanks for the update on the precisions. They are on the list.

Dom - again, nice race in bad conditions!

Theia - bummer about the game. Looks like it was a good one too. I seriously wish we could get an MLS team here. I know years ago they talked about Franklin Field but MLS vetoed b/c it's bleachers. I think that would have been awesome, I love that field.

kj - that's a tough situtation. thinking about you.

diane - welcome to the club! nothing drives my wife nuts like when they card me and don't card her!

brandy - I thought of you on Sunday - I drove by a restaraunt with a big sign out front that said "CRAB SPECIAL!" and I thought, mmmmm, carbs... oh wait...

It's been pouring rain here for about 24 hours, so I'm happy that today is a planned 0. I dropped in on Sat with a quickie update - 5K in 16:47, 5th OA. Won a strawberry rhubarb pie which is now half gone and will not make it until mid-week, mmmm.. Sunday was a 15m progression run, out in the 7s, back in the mid/low 6s.

Legs are feeling pretty beat up. Partly the race, it was kinda dumb to make that my first speed workout. Partly who knows what else. Will ice and try to arrange the days this week so I don't do quality 2 in a row.

4 weeks to the PDR.

Need your advice, folks. Especially the women.

Last Thursday, a 62 year-old woman was assaulted (possibly raped; I've heard conflicting reports) on the park route I usually use for my short running loop. She was running at 8:15 a.m. when it happened... broad daylight. I also use this same route in this same park for my early morning boot camp class, but I'm not too worried about that since there are always at least 3 of us.

I am scheduled to run that exact short loop tonight after work, probably around 5:30ish. If I can't find anyone to run with me, should I just stay inside on the TM? The woman is OK, but the man who assaulted her is still at-large. I'd go to another Y, but that one is closed this week for maintenance, clean-up, etc. So if I run from home, I have no weightlifting/crosstraining options after my short run. I'd really rather go to my normal Y and either run my loop or run on the TM.

I'll check back in a bit. Work is kicking my butt.

{{Nettie}} - you rock, even sittin' there in your drawers. Just sos you know.

Happy Birthday to Maureen's Mom and Litch's 4yo!!

Morning Gang!

Great week-end with my B, SIL and 2 1/2yo - realized that I actually am in some sort of shape as the bike ride on Saturday wiped out them but I was ready to do more - lots more! Woohoo!!

phdatc I'm sensing 13.1 in 13 is a perfectly reasonable goal for you - especially with the longer runs and consistency you've been having lately! You go Girl!!

Double in store for today, swim and run with something called "hill repeats" on the fridge. . .Fortunately, I've roped DH into doing those with me so I'll have my own personal cheerleader along.

Had my first brick yesterday - huh. First biked 12 miles, 6 out 6 back: in 20 mph winds. Took me almost twice as long to go out as it did to come back. That was fun. Then, running on jelly legs and a gravel driveway. I have to admit, I loved it - made me giggle the whole way.

Sending hugs to those who are ailing, who are sad or just plain in need.

Hope you all have great days!!

Theia - I'd stay on the TM if you can't find anyone to run with you, why add extra worries into your run tonight?
