Aww...what fun is it to build stuff when you're sober...

Voo/HH - I had a messed up back 2 yrs ago. My doc wanted to cauterize a nerve - a temporary solution he said, but PT did the trick and continues to work today. Find a PT/doc who runs and/or is an athlete. HH - great to hear your workouts pain-free and are getting better.

It makes the good ones that much sweeter. I'm in the same funk although no races lately. Just long slow bad runs. Keep putting one in front of the other - I'll be there w/ya.

Are those Brooks Adrenaline GTS? I wear 'em too. Love 'em.
Did they let Kazinski out already?

Ok...love the Mac Grill. The pita chip nachos kicked some chain-restaurant italian butt, but i think they removed them from the menu.

I nearly shived myself after a 13-miler this last winter on the deadmill - not sure I'd last the 18. The gym also installed little 4" fans on the front of each TM. It bounces up and down the whole time - talk about seasick!

Nice work!

Ok, I waged an all out war yesterday against the local rodent population - primarly the woodchucks. I have 2 30x30 vege gardens - squash, cukes, tomatoes, peppers, g-beans, basil, lettuce (6 varieties), pumpkins, spinach and love the fruits of my labor. A few hairy critters decided they liked my garden also. First I didn't mind them - they helped with the weeding and left my veges alone. I checked the garden on Friday and noticed that ALL of my spinach, lettuce (mesculin, boston bib, etc), green bean plants and cucumbers were either gone or decimated. Additionally, he took a few bites from a pumpkin - killing it. I'm sure he was sizing up the squash and moving to the other garden very shortly.

I have a 3 pronged approach to the little bastahds now-
1) have-a-heart trap and then we play a game to see who can hold our breath underwater the longest - the rodent goes first. (Actually, this is half-a-heart trap/method)
b) lead therapy - very effective
iii) smokey, smokey, smokey - "The Giant Killer"

I launched strategy #1 and iii yesterday and have #2 waiting in the window. No sign of the little buggers today and the have-a-heart still isn't sprung.
I haven't resorted to using C-4 yet but who knows where this is going.
Now the red and gray squirrel that are chewing my bird feeders and chipmunks wrecking my walkway and stone walls are in for some attention.

If any rodents are reading this thread, pass it along to your bretheren that my garden is off limits.

I pounded out 10 slow, hot miles yesterday in the 90 degree heat. I don't think I've pizzed yet because of the dehydration - despite drinking water incessantly.

One other thing...when I logged into Yahoo, this story was posted.
Stiletto heel racing...nice.

http://www.yahoo.com/s/644544

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'll be jumping in the mix and commenting more when I have the time. Have to devot more time to getting ready for an important test right now. Just wanted to wish everyone a happy Sunday.

Oh, one more thing..

I'm heading to Jackson, MS. this week and need to find a hotel room. I've looked at a couple quickly online but haven't made a decision yet. If anyone has stayed in Jackson and has a good suggestion, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Also, if you've been to Jackson or know the area and can suggest anything to do while there, I'll have a little free time.

Thanks,
Tiff

Let's start from the beginning. Like Moe and Crane, my Dh is out of town for the weekend. I don't normally sleep very well alone in the house. I make myself super tired so I just pass out or else I am conjuring up images of intruders etc. I have gotten better over the past 2 years. Now, I only sleep with the house phone by the bed - I have been able to leave the cell phone downstairs. See I had this theory that if the intruders cut the land line...well you know..I got to have a phone to call 911. See my paranoia? Well, I was finally dead tired about midnight last night and headed up to bed. I was so close to being asleep when the dog started barking and ran downstairs...no that is bad. That is someone is coming in the house to kill me bad. I rushed out of bed, turned on the light, grabbed said phone and ran downstairs yelling. Dog, by that time, was laying down next to the couch. Huh? What in the heck girl..you can't do that to me when we are here by ourselves! Anyways..I was edgy after that and got maybe 5 hours of sleep.

I got up and decided to go for a run. Oops..no clean /dry running bras..dang it. So I walked the dog and then was going to have an early lunch. Did some good house cleaning and then proceeded outside to pull some weeds, transplant some flowers and dig a hole for our little fountain. I walk out there and the garage door opener fails to open anything. Huh? Is the battery dead? Hard to tell...unfortunately, it is a 12v battery and we have no spares in the house. No other way to open the garage either. hmm......I went downstairs and found the breaker for the garage to be on...hmmmm so I tried to improvise. I guess I don't have to bury part of the fountain...I just need to level off this soil. Hey, this big stick will work. So I used a big stick to move some dirt around. I then went over to where the fountain was and brought it over. GIANT spider crawls out giving me a scare. I rinse out the fountain and assemble it. The moving ground with a stick thing didn't work all that well so I levelled off the ground with a paver. ok..finally level. Plug the bugger in...NOTHING. Abso-fucking-lutely NOTHING. Ok. I recheck the breaker and flip it off and back on. Still nothing. I take another thing out there that plugs in to test if it is the pump or the outlet. It doesn't work either. Ok...so the outlet is gone. We capped off some electrical when we were working on the garage so I wondered if this was somehow effected. Rechecked breaker. Nothing. I said...well I guess I can move it over to the corner of the garden and use the outside house outlet. So I dump out the water and haul it over there. For where I want it, the cord is too short. To plug it in I have to walk completely around the house as there is no gate on this side of the fence. So I try to plug it in, doesn't reach. walk all the way around, move fountain, walk all the way around again, plug it in, walk all the way around to see if it is working...STILL NOTHING. This is now 2 hours after I started this little project. Once more I go back down to the basement and finally realize that the GFI for the garage has been tripped for some reason (it is separate from the switchboard). SIGH. I reset it and the garage opens just fine. I toy with the idea of moving the fountain back to the original spot, especially with access to tools. But I like the new area and don't necessarily want to dump out the water again and move it clear across the backyard. Hmm. Decisions. So, I go to grab a shovel to see how easy it is to break up that soil. I am standing under the garage door and I see little drops from the bottom of the door. Wow, I think. I didn't think there would still be water at the base of it. I then quickly realize, it isn't water...it's ants and they are now all over me. EWWWWW.....

Ok. So I decide to leave the fountain where it is. I finally get it all set up and go to plug it in. It reaches...great! I go back over but don't hear any water running. Huh? The tube into the pump isn't fitting quite right and is allowing all the water to escape back into the base..thus no pressure and no water coming up to the top. I mess around with it for about 10 minutes ending in dumping about a 1/2 gallon of water onto my shoes. Ok...I'm done. screw it.

Sigh. No run for me today. Might not even make it to the gym. I am tired and I have to attend a work function at 730. Ok. /end vent.

I read your post too quickly the first time and thought this said ******* breaker ...I was like huh, I guess that could be the case.

Sounds like you need something cool as a treat and then an early attempt at bed tonight. Might I suggest a snowcone? Mmmmm good!

Brandy! It just isn't your weekend is it?? When does DH come home? Oh and the part about the ants made me gasp. That would be a nightmare for me, especially since I would have stripped right there in the garage! Ants are evil.

So...the ticket saga has ended. First guy hooked me up with one of his clients, I met him in a Chili's parking lot on my way home from my parents' house (I called the folks after...jic), and I've got the weekend voucher. 'salright.

Even better: I won tix to see Muse and Cold War Kids on Sat night! I called 'FNX, like I always do, although I never win...and lo and behold, my luck changed! And it's at the Agganis Arena, where I saw White Stripes a couple of weeks ago and I loved the venue...so all is coolio.

Gotta get to the theatre...Brandy, sorry you're having a crappy weekend.

Moe

Glad you got the tix squared away Moe.

Congrats on the FNX win
I've yet to see the inside of the Agganis. Last time I was in a building @ that location...it was the old Armory for a track meet!

Brandy
sorry you're having a bad weekend. hang in...

Brandy -

Sounds like you had a really rough weekend.

Almost sounds like you could use some of your namesake (Brandy) , or the adult beverage of your choice.

Beth - I am beginning to hate ants as well. These were the little red ones so they weren't as bad but we have those big black ones in the house and DH doesn't understand why I freak out. And he doesn't get back until tomorrow afternoon. grr....another sleep deprived night. Maybe Maria has a good idea with the snow cone idea. Does a frozen Margarita count?

Brandy- Frozen margaritas always count!! Ooh, carpenter ants. I have vivid memories as a child of those things living in the blinds rod!! They would crawl on my ceiling over my bed and I was so scared they would fall on me. My mom said that if I turned off the light, they would go to bed too. I did NOT turn off the light! No way!! I still don't understand why my parents didn't kill them or something. I was maybe 5? I was highly allergic (and I think I still am, but I don't get bitten very much now!) and can remember going to the hospital after standing in an ant pile in the yard when I was really little. Like I said, ants are evil. ALL ants. Oh, and I found a whole bunch of little "piss ants" as we call them (tiny black ones looking for water) crawling all over my bathroom yesterday morning! Of course, I was peeing and looked down. It was probably quite the sight with me peeing and trying to bend over and kill them on the floor at the same time! They were all over my shower/tub, too. No idea.

BTW, I love your new sig!

Brandy, now why didn't we get together for a slumber party last night? I didn't sleep well, either.

Get your minds outta the gutter, gang, it's SUNDAY. That's just wrong to go there on Sunday.

If DH is ever gone and you wanna come over, (even tonight) we have tons of room, you could have your own space to do your own thing and we are dog friendly with a big back fenced yard, not to mention an alarm. I needed someone to help with my carpeting, anyway.

Oh. DF was not thrilled (but he's also verrrryyyyy hung over so I'll leave him alone). I forgot to get a dumpster prior to the big tear-up so the room now looks like carpeting in a corner. Whoopsies.

Recovery 4 today and it was hooommmmiiddd, but good. I asked this question elsewhere, but why do I always seem to be able to run faster after a long run or speed workout? You'd think it'd be really slow.

Tiff I think I stayed at the Comfort Inn Suites last time I was there. There are several newer hotels in town. The Comfort Inn is very close to the Roadhouse steakhouse if memory serves. Pretty good food there, friendly service iirc. Have fun! Drive another 2.5 hours North and come see me hehe

Back from a 9.5 mile run through San Francisco out to the bridge, turnaround to the Wharf, thru the Marina and by the Palace of Fine Arts, and back to my car. Thought I'd complete the day with a wetsuit and maybe a new shoe purchase, but ended up with no shoes and only a rental - gonna' see if a sleeveless wetsuit works okay tomorrow (OWS session) before going whole hog.

I was reminded of how far I have to go swim-wise - found out today was the Alcatraz Challenge combo swim/aquathalon. Conditions were brutal on the bay, and I heard from one of the volunteers that half of the swimmers entered were DNF. When I found that out, it made my respect for the participant with the prosthetic leg who I passed on my run even more profound.

Salty Maureen - so glad the ticket deal got straightened out. It sounded pretty convoluted for a bit there

{{{Brandy}}} - you're a fine girl, what a...okay, I won't sing (trust me, you don't wanna' hear me sing.) But like I said with the race, it looks like you just need to kick this whole weekend to the curb - better things will come your way.

Welcome to our thread, EQ! And good to see you back home safely Timr.

Some really kickbutt workouts this week (Pacer, Cactus, Jill...too many to name. You all deserve a big )

Tiff - good luck on preparing for the test; what are you studying for?

Anyway, time to get back and prepare for what should be a normal work week (ewww...) Between the race, vacation, and jury duty, the last week has been a bit of a strange one schedule and sleep-wise.
