Mine does. I run our wellness program, and it involves affordable (good) insurance, free rec center passes, lots of fitness/health challenges, the ability to get your whole deductible waived by doing certain things, paying people to get a blood draw and do an HRA, and training program that has six wellness classes with a bonus when you complete them.

Our health insurance rates have not gone up in 4 years.

Ah, but by paying them to encourage healthy behaviors, you can save in your health plan. We have a self funded plan, fyi.

Definitely!!

We feel that by encouraging good behaviors we are helping prevent chronic conditions, and we have disease management to help those who have them already. Plus they are highly encouraged to do all the other stuff.

Since our plan is self-funded we have a lot more control. More risk, too, I believe...

Our wellness program is my baby.

Plus employees feel all these programs we offer are additional great benefits.

Morale, money savings, healthier employees, etc...

Part of our requirements for our deductible waiver is doing an online health risk assessment, which requires that info. However, we do not ever get that info, it goes to the health care company.

Plus, technically, it's your choice. You only have to do it if you want to save the extra money. You'd be surprised at how many people have NEVER had that stuff done, and are walking around with high blood pressure, cholesterol, or glucose. Getting that info is the first step, and sometimes that scary wake up call, for a lot of people. Those people cost the plan money because they develop chronic conditions. If we can find out overall what the health concerns of our employee population looks like, we can target our programs and training.

Our health risk assessments would never tell you that, either. We measure height, weight, BMI, body fat, along with all the other blood draw info. Then we provide a comprehensive report to employees based on that info. By we, I don't mean the HR staff, I mean qualified health professionals within our health care system.

Over the last 4 years or so we've seen our culture really change to be more wellness oriented. It's pretty amazing.

We also have a hard time reaching some of the groups, like our field operation folks. But this whole deductible waiver program is an honest to god money savings, of up to $900 for family coverage. So that gets their attention!

Plus we pay them $50 to do the blood draw and health risk assessment. And we pay them when they complete our wellness training curriculum.

We don't offer the blood draws to spouses yet. But if we did we would require them to come here. It makes the administration of the whole thing about 800 times easier! However, we give a copy (in a sealed envelope) to the employee with their health evaluation and strongly encourage them to share these results with their doctor, especially if there are any results outside the norm.

We also reimburse employees for the $30 cost of a blood screen in the spring thru our local health fair (run by a non-profit). Our goal is to make it easy and cheap for people to get this info. In the case of our health fair, where we do the blood draws, we give employees a $50 bonus (after taxes) to do the draw. Bribery? Possibly...
