Anyone doing the HF 123 this Sunday?

Skip?

runNYtrails?

Bueller?

Ive done that one a few times, dg. it's a pretty good one, but nothing to really keep me going back time n agin. Lots of other stuff around that i havent tried yet so ... maybe i will try something new. Based on the other events that you have done and enjoyed, I think you will like it if yer going ... or have you done it already ? I know you live in that area so I am guessing youve been there before. Whatchya got planned for some real mileage this year ? 50's ? a hunnert ?? Hope to see ya at something !!

Highland's about 10 minutes from my front door so I'll just roll out of bed about 15 minutes before the start of the race.

No hundred this year. I've been super busy IRL and barely have time to train properly for a 50 so it'll be 50k's and a couple of 50's. Probably Canandaigua and Stone Cat. I might do Ithaca if I can't do Canandaigua (might be doing a family VK that weekend).

How about you? GLER? Mendon?

What's in Ithaca, dg ?

I was going to do BPAC just fer kicks last month but that didnt werk out and i just ended up doing a couple laps with TOB. I've got a couple local FA 50K's in the werks and possibly a Trail M'thon in a
local park. The Niagara Ultra is next month and i was thinking it would be kind of neat to go from Niagara on the Lake to Niagara Falls since i've done the other end of the Niagara path - from Ft Erie to Niagara Falls (Casino Niagara Marathon) a few times. I think most of my looooong stuff will have to be either timed events or solo's as i have difficulty with cutoff times in 'official' races. i m slower than whale poop these days and not really looking at getting faster any time soon

I think i am finished with GLER but Mendon is definitely calling to me .... its been a really long time since i've done that one.

There are also a bunch of shorter trail run possiblities on the calendar ... for when the body allows -
A trail half in Ontario in a couple weeks ... but mostly ... i just been doin' my own thang.

You doing the "3" at HF 1,2,3 ??

I plan on doing the 3.

Ithaca: http://www.iroquoistrails100.com/index.html

I heard there's going to be a FA in Ithaca on Father's Day. You should check it out. The last one that Katie and the club put on was very well done and attended with at least a dozen people doing the whole thing. I'll be camping that weekend so'll miss it.

Whats' TB up to?

dg1

how was HF 3 ? friends report it was a good day on the course makin' fer fast times. what you say ?

Hey guys- I found you, at last. I am just as slow on here as I am running!!!! I did BPAC, thanks to runNYtrails, I got 26 in. My hip is unhappy with much of what I ask of it these days. Lucky for me, my ego is such that I don't care if I run, walk, skip, or snake-skim whatever surface I opt for!

Just did a slow Forest City marathon, in London, Ont. runNY has me pondering a few other ultra offerings. But work and life, not to mention aforecursed hip, have my dance card a bit overbooked of late. Desperately seeking balance, to reconnect running with work and family...... Will let ya know, dg, if things work that I can get out for a run in yer neck 'o the woods! Todd B really rocked BPAC 6 hour- I'd love to get back to GLER.... just don't have a lot of vaca time at the new job and they don't allow time off w/o pay....... Balance, what's THAT again??????

I woke up feeling no better with my cold/flu thing Sunday but went anyway. I knew I wasn't going to make more than a lap when about a half mile from the start/finish area I had to walk up this knoll (is there something smaller than a knoll?) and I was panting like I was running a 5K. I rolled into the start/finish 10 minutes slower than last year (I was sick then too). Skip asked me if I was going to go again and I told him I was going to think about it for a minute. I plopped down on the bench and sat there trying to catch my breath. I told him I was done a couple of minutes later. Highland again gets the best of me. I have never left that place, whether a race or just a training run, and thought I Rocked.

First two men were in under 4:10 minutes! Smoking fast! The previous record (Todd) was 4:21. I haven't seen the official results yet but there were at least a half dozen in around 4:25-4:30.

Steady rain and a cold front came in time to make the mid-packers lives cold and miserable. A few people that planned on running the 30 called in quits at 20. A couple people claimed they saw ice pellets or snow. It was typical weather for Highland.

Hey TOB!

Glad you found your way here. There's a few CNY'ers kicking around here. Todd ran an awesome race. His lap times never varied by more than 20-30 seconds except when he kicked the final lap, which was his fastest. I'll be crewing for Todd this year at Badwater. I don't have any ultras now until GLER. I actually have a handful of 5k's the early part of the summer and I'll be doing the 25K at Finger Lakes. You should see if you can make it for that one.

Take care and stay in touch-
Dave

dg -

Plenty of opportunities coming up 'round here to "Rock" !!
Ye'll be back at it soon enough !

The Badwater adventure will be awesome, that is too cool !

TOB -
Niagara . . . even with the exchange it's a short trip !!

dgi, the cool thing about so-called bad races is that the next time, you can look forward to a better outcome. Some events just seem jinxed- getting sick this time of year is fairly easy, given the weird weather. I value the effort as much as the outcome. Most folks would've just stayed home. You actually showed up and did it. Very cool in my book!

I can't do Finger lakes- its the holiday weekend. I host family, alas. I step over the sleeping bodies as it is to do a 10k on the 4th!

Not sure yet about Niagara ultras, runNYtrails- have a family party that day......just might be looking for an excuse to ditch it, ya know? As for the exchange- wow- our money is worth less and less each time I go.

Merigayle and dg1: PLEASE post of your Badwater experiences. I have this "connection" to Death Valley that started way before I ever imagined, much less ran a single step. We drove thru and saw this man running in the dead heat of the midday, pulling a rickshaw. We marveled and inagined who he was, what he was doing.....Marshall Ulrich, I later learned, was training for Badwater! I was THAT close to such an iconic ultrarunner. Gives me goosebumps to this day.

Have a safe, runhappy memorial day weekend, kindred souls!
