I'd have to agree with the injinjis. I perpetually got blisters in between my 2nd & 3rd toes. When I switched to the injinjis, they disappeared. They may not work as well for other areas of the foot, but in my opinion, for between the toes, they can't be beat.

 2. Extreme Running

Being 1 week after my 1st 50, I decided to take it easy. 2 hrs on the AT on Saturday and then I "treated" myself with a 5k for Labor Day itself (18:31, 1st in age group). Although, honestly, I'm looking forward to getting back to putting more miles in.

However, I did get a...

As indicated, here's my RR (my first attempt at a RR). http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/thread/69910/north-country-trail-run-rr#post_1942018

<div...

I just added my RR for the NCTR (my first attempt at a RR). This was just my take on the day. http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/thread/69910/north-country-trail-run-rr#post_1942018

Please be kind. This was not only my first attempt at a 50 miler, it was my first attempt at a RR.

Micah

After a 14.5+/- hour 2 day drive, the race weekend started off great with a get-together with other runners. A local family of runners with an open field...

how did runners know where the turn was if it wasn't marked?

As far as I know, there were also some mountain bikers who knew where we were supposed to be (or not be as the case may be). I got lucky and got to that turn...
 7. Extreme Running

I ran my first 50 miler at the North Country Trail Run this weekend. I finished in 9:25. I'm in the process of trying to put together a race report. Of course, that's more just so I have a record of my thoughts from my first "real" ultra.

 8. The PostRace Tent

I almost got run over by a deer once. It was the end of twilight and I was trying to squeeze my run in without a light. When, out of nowhere, I hear a noise coming from in the street. As I'm hearing this, a deer runs ~2 feet in front of me. I was trying to figure out how I would explain...

@Kate - Thanks for the advice. I had thought about socks & shoes earlier, but had since forgotten about it. I will also definitely pack some handi-wipes. It sounds like they could come in very handi (ha ha, pun intended). There isn't really any special food that I thrive on other than...

As my first 50 miler (North Country Trail Run in Manistee, MI) is just over a week away, do any of you much more experienced runners have any last minute advice for a newbie? I think I have my pacing, nutrition, and fluid plans set. But, I'm not really sure what to do about a drop bag. ...
 11. Extreme Running

I agree with the communication. As I'm going into my first 50M very soon, I have quite a few worries. I'm sure even the most experienced of you out there had your first ultra experience at some time or another. I would also bet that at most races there is at least 1 1st timer involved. I...
 12. Extreme Running

I officially joined your ranks today (at the lowest level). I ran the Turkey Swamp 50K in Freehold, NJ. As it was a training run for the North Country Trail Run in MI in 3 weeks, I'm very happy with my performance. I managed to run a 5:23 and sit right in the mid 10's where I wanted to...
